5. ACC ANNOTATIONS ACC Annotations are tools used to allow writers better descriptive opportunities when writing a battle. Force Powers are key to the characters of the Brotherhood and the annotations allow you to address such things without needing to name them, which usually does not read well. The Force Power annotations are mandatory when addressing Force use.Annotations, in the ACC, are nothing more than a bracketed letter combination that denotes the power, for example; [SPK] would the the 2nd Rite Telepathy power called 'Speak'. The exact format is important because it triggers a tool-tip type box when activated in a battle. This is good for your opponent and the Judges because they can know the power you are using without looking it up, foraging through an ill-placed footnote or simply reading passed it, not having gained the intent of your usage. Additionally, the annotation process fosters a standard for everyone. This prevents the occurence of numerous ways of addressing power usage floating throughout ACC battles and quells confusion. As for possibly rememebring all of the particular annotations, don't worry about it. First; the frequent powers you use will become second nature. Second; the CS's will have the annotation formats next to the powers, so you can refer to your CS if you have to (after all, you can only use the powers to which you have access). Third; the ACC has a list (one is at the bottom of this section). Finally; the DJB Wiki Force Powers articles wll also have the annotations. So, there will be many resources available for you to get acquainted with them. 5.1 HOW TO WRITE THEM Don't blatantly address the Force power, instead, be as descriptive in explaining it's use and effect as you can and let the annotation tell what it is. You can see examples below. Don't use the annotation as an object itself, it's like a 'footnote' (but not to be treated as one) and shouldn't be the subject of an action or verb etc. Remember, for some, your stats indicate that you need concentration or prep, don't forget to address that. There's no harm in being metaphoric about the use of the power or form, it adds flare and a bit of style if done well. Feel free to cover how you employ the Force and how it exists beyond normal sight. Higher ranking Dark Jedi may combine powers, you can keep them all together or place them for each occurrence within the line they're used.5.2 USING ANNOTATIONS Use the bracketed power abbreviations, i.e. [AA], [PSH]. There is no other accepted alternative. Place the bracketed abbreviation only in the sentence where the power was used or referenced. Ensure you annotate the correct power. In the case of multiple powers, should they be strung together, keep their formatting standard, i.e. [CDT][AM]. Don't dictate what you are enhancing or amplifying with powers, i.e. [ES-DEX].5.2.1 GOOD EXAMPLES Good examples of annotation use in ACC battles (*these are based off of the 'old' DJB Power system, but the format is the same)* Shin'ichi squinted as he felt the Mandalorian's attack whispered in the force milliseconds before it began. [AA] ~Shin'ichi * She watched Dalthid turn slowly, his heavy legs seeming to perpetuate a rumbling of thunder through the landscape-but that was just her imagination [MT]. ~Dalthid * Instinct and training saved the Jedi Master [AA], his blade lashing out as he dove to the side, his body coiling and twisting to avoid the oncoming attack [CTR]. ~Halcyon * He lay there for a moment longer, concentrating hard enough that he could concentrate on the Force, extending his senses to find the other combatant [LS]. ~Dark Sabre * The Grand Master held his grip on the Pontifex's head, and took the battlefield to the mind of the conflicted Jedi [MTR]. ~Jac * The usurper smiled with Jac's lips, using the Master's fears against him [CDT][AM] as it seized control. ~Muz * Then, in a burst of light, streams of electricity flashed from Halcyon's fingers [FL], wrapping themselves around Manji's body... ~Nekura 5.2.2 NOT SO GOOD EXAMPLES Bad examples of written Force use in ACC battles (*these are based off of the 'old' DJB Power system, but the format is the same)* ...as his lightsaber appeared in his hands with a crack of thunder, its crimson blade arcing to life with an alien hiss as he took up the ready stance. (*no annotation) * With two loud cracks of displaced air, both lightsabers appeared his his hands, from their place on his belt. (1) (*power footnoted) * ...leveling his scythe out in front of him, as if guarding against a force of invisible foes that might jump out at him at any second[1]. (*power footnoted) * The Protector [TE]ed his sabre to his hand. (*annotation used as verb) * As the Dark Knight Accelerated Healing his wounds he could fight better [AH]. (*power written as part of speech and annotated) * ...paused for a few cleansing breaths before straightening his aching back, and dealing with some unsightly bruising [CP+AH]. (*combination of powers annotated incorrectly) * ...enhancing his already superhuman agility [ES-DEX] with his opponent struggling to keep up. (*defining which ability was enhanced) 5.3 POWER ANNOTATIONS 5.2.1 First Rite Powers (INI-ACO) HEAR [HER]PUSH [PSH] PULL [PUL] TELEKINESIS [TES] SENSE [SNS] PRECOGNITION [PCG] INSTINCTIVE PILOTING [INP] PRIMAL SYMPATHY [PRS] MALACIA [MAL] CURE [CRE] BREATH CONTROL [BRC] TWILIGHT [TWL] 5.2.1 Second Rite Powers (PRT-DJK) SPEAK [SPK]BATTLEMIND [BMD] ENHANCE ABILITY [EHA] BURST OF SPEED [BOS] THROW [TRW] DRAW [DRW] GRIP [GRP] STRIKE [STK] JUMP [JMP] SEEING [SEE] DODGE [DDG] INSTINCTIVE ASTROGATION [INA] BEAST CONTROL [BSC] SLOW [SLW] HEAL [HEA] CONTROL PAIN [CTP] HIBERNATION TRANCE [HBT] PERSUASION [PER] DRAIN ENERGY [DRE] BLACKNESS [BLK] FEAR [FER] STUN [STN] 5.2.1 Third Rite Powers (EQ1-EQ4) COMMUNICATE [COM]FORCE MELD [FCM] RAGE [RAG] EQUITE SPEED [EQS] SUPPRESSION [SUP] WHIRLWIND [WWD] BECKON [BCK] LEAP [LEP] CHOKE [CHK] OBLITERATE [OBL] PSYCHOMETRY [PSY] BARRIER [BAR] SHROUD PILOTING [SHP] SIGHT [SIT] READ/WRITE LANGUAGE [RWL] CLOAK [CLK] AFFLICTION [AFL] HEAL OTHERS [HEO] HARM [HRM] CURE POISON [CRP] TAPAS [TAP] MIND TRICK [MDT] ILLUSION [ILL] DISSIPATE ENERGY [DSE] BLINDING [BLD] SHOCK [SHK] HORROR [HOR] STASIS [STA] Third Rite Order Powers KRATH:
