"Deneba Campus: Histoy of the Sith Empire II"
I-Introduction
Welcome, students, to the History of the Sith Empire II. In the first course, the Eclectic Pedagogue instructed you all on the formation of the Sith Order, the origin of the Sith, the original conflicts, and ending with the death of Freedon Nadd and the Third Great Schism. In this course, we will delve deeper into the minds of the Sith Empire's great tacticians, as well as explore some of their greatest conflicts and what eventually led to the near destruction of the Sith. So sit back, get out your datapads, and pay attention because I am not one to repeat myself.
II-Naddist Uprising
Freedon Nadd, despite being as powerful as he was, could not avoid the one inescapable disease: old age. He died as ruler of the planet Onderon, insisting that subsequent rulers should follow in his footsteps by studying the dark side of the Force, or the planet would fall. As it turned out, he was more or less right. The Beast Wars, a three hundred and fifty year conflict that Nadd had temporarily ended when he had taken the throne, began anew. It wrecked havoc to the point the planet was forced to join the Republic for protection.
Unbeknownst to his opponents in the Beast Wars, Freedon Nadd had created a small Sith cult of his followers, known as Naddists. The cult included the royal family of Onderon: King Ommin, Queen Amanoa, and Ommin's commander Warb Null were all members. When the planet joined the Republic, a Jedi called Arca Jeth was given the position as Watchman. His three padawans, Ulic and Cay Qel-Droma and Tott Doneeta, also joined him.
They quickly worked to end the Beast Wars, which they did, but at a terrible price. Queen Amanoa was slain, and her daughter Galia took the throne. Unlike her parents, Galia was not a Naddist, and did not accept Nadd's superiority. She quickly made ties with the Jedi, and they decided that it was best to move Nadd's corpse out of the city where it could cause no harm.
Obviously, the Naddists did not approve of this. They rebelled, trying to overthrow Galia and take the throne themselves. At first, they gained the upper hand. Ommin, Null, and several others were able to capture Jedi Jeth. During the battle Warb Null was charged to hold back the Padawan Ulic Qel-Droma while Ommin fled, leaving his faithful friend and commander to be struck down by Qel-Droma.
The First Battle of Onderon ended in Naddist victory, but it would not last long. Republic and Jedi forces quickly arrived from Coruscant, and the Second Battle of Onderon began. The Republic-Jedi forces besieged the castle, being far stronger then the small rebel force. In the end, Ommin knew defeat was near at hand and bravely took one last stand against Ulic Qel-Droma. Ommin's death brought the Naddist Uprising to a close.

III-Great Sith War
We have now finished with the era of Freedon Nadd. His last traces are gone, and Onderon is once again controlled by the Jedi and Republic. What we will focus on now is the first large scale assault by the Sith Empire.
It all began with two Jedi. The first was Ulic Qel-Droma (pictured), who was a key player in the Battle of Onderon. It was during this battle that he had encountered the force spirit of Freedon Nadd. The Dark Lord of the Sith revealed to him his destiny of becoming the next Lord of the Sith. The young Jedi believed him, and decided it was his destiny to rule the Sith Empire and bring down the Republic.
Ulic Qel-Droma started by infiltrating the Krath Order society, which had been started by Satal and Aleema Keto. The two Dark Siders had been on Onderon just as the second battle was starting. They gathered up all remaining Naddists, forming the Krath Order Society in the Empress Teta System. A few months later, Nadd's prophecy began to come true when the Krath attacked the Republic. While they were beaten back, they did manage to injure and capture Qel-Droma. They later injected him with dark poisons, ensuring his fall to the dark side. Qel-Droma fell deeper and deeper into the Krath's influence. At one point he single handedly foiled an assassination attempt on Krath leader Aleema Keto, assuring his pull into the Krath, although still waiting for his destiny of becoming leader of the Sith.
The second important and infamous character to start the Great Sith War was Exar Kun, who I am sure all of you have probably heard of. Like Qel-Droma, Exar Kun was once a Jedi. Despite this, however, he was very interested in the Dark Side of the Force. So interested, in fact that the Jedi Elders decided he should stop studying it before he became a danger to himself and the order. His master, Vodo-Siosk Baas, attempted to save his student, but they ended up in a duel, causing Kun to leave the Jedi Order.
He traveled to Onderon, where he had heard rumors that the spirit of Freedon Nadd rested. When he arrived, he met with the Force Spirit just as Ulic Qel-Droma had. The deceased Dark Lord told him to travel to Korriban. Believing he was to become the next Dark Lord, Exar Kun obeyed. While on Korriban, the spirit of Nadd tricked him, causing a cave-in to severely injure Kun. Nadd offered Kun a choice: succumb to the Dark Side or die. For you see, Exar Kun while very curious in the Dark Side of the Force and the power it held, but he still believed the being a Jedi was the right path. He refused to accept the Dark Side, but after Nadd attempted to kill him again, Exar Kun accepted his proposal. Nadd healed his injuries, and sent him on a quest to revive the Sith Empire.
Exar Kun traveled to Yavin IV where he enslaved the local Massassi race and destroyed Nadd's spirit once and for all. Now rid of the Dark Lord, he claimed his rightful spot as ruler of the Sith Empire.
Of course, one must remember that Ulic Qel-Droma also believed it was his right to rule the Sith. In the end, Kun made his way to Cinnagar, where he met Ulic Qel-Droma. They dueled, both believing the throne was theirs. During the battle, the spirit of Marka Ragnos interrupted the duel and declared Exar Kun as Sith Lord and Ulic Qel-Droma as his apprentice. They accepted, and started to wage war against the Republic.
Now, while the war had started, the Sith needed greater military power. Exar Kun stole Jedi students from Ossus and converted them to the Dark Side. With an army of Dark Jedi, Qel-Droma defeated Lord Mandalore in a duel and gained the services of the Mandalorians. He then raided Foerost and secured a sizable fleet for the Sith. The Krath joined in the fight to assist Qel-Droma in payment for saving Aleema Keto's life. The war continued for around four Galactic standard years. Qel-Droma, along with his Krath and Mandalorian allies, attacked Coruscant. It was slightly premature, however, and he was captured when Aleema and her Krath sisters betrayed him and retreated. The Mandalorians retreated and returned to Exar Kun to report the defeat and capture of Qel-Droma. Kun quickly led a rescue attempt that succeeded. He was also able to assassinate the Supreme Chancellor and kill his former master in the process. The Krath battled the Jedi in the Al'Har System. The Mandalorians attacked Onderon, a common site of battles in those days, but were repelled to Dxun where their leader was killed and they were defeated by the Republic.
Meanwhile, the Sith attacked Ossus' star, causing it to go supernova, destroying all the Jedi and Jedi artifacts. Ulic Qel-Droma's Jedi brother Cay tried to bring Ulic back into the light. However, Ulic refused and killed his brother. Due to his action, Nomi Sunrider used a forbidden technique on Ulic to cut his connection to the Force.
Unable to defend himself, the Republic captured Qel-Droma, and he led them to Yavin IV and Exar Kun's temple. Kun used the Force to commit a ritual that sucked the life from all those on the planet and separated his spirit from his body, thus turning him into a Force ghost that was bound to his temple. The Jedi Order accepted that the Great Sith War was over after four years, and returned to Coruscant. However, several Sith controlled planets, including Korriban, continued to be occupied by Dark Side followers. It is unknown why the Jedi refused to hunt them down, but in the end, they would go on to form the new Sith Empire that would wage war against the Republic again. The Jedi did hunt down some of the Sith, known to history as the Cleansing of the Nine Houses, but they refused to travel to Korriban where the Sith Empire was entrenched.

IV-Jedi Civil War
Also known as the Second Sith War and the War of the Star Forge, the Jedi Civil War began with the Mandalorian War. The Mandalorian forces had reinvaded the Republic, and quickly conquered planets in the Outer Rim and moved into the Mid-Rim sectors. The Jedi Council refused to send any Jedi to try to solve the problem, despite the Republic Navy being nearly annihilated. However, when the Mandalorians took control of Cathar, two knights known as Revan and Malak led a small group of Jedi to repel the invaders. With a victory, Revan and Malak proved themselves worthy commanders in the field and went on to lead the Republic Navy to numerous victories.
During this time, Revan came upon the Sith planet of Malachor V. The sheer power of the planet's dark essence nearly killed him. He survived, but the darkness was able to turn him to the Dark Side of the Force. On Malachor V, he discovered the Trayus Academy, once thought destroyed during the Great Hyperspace War, as well as knowledge of the Star Forge, also thought destroyed. He also discovered that there were still Sith roaming the outside territories and determined to locate them.
Revan, being the great tactician that he was, came up with a plan. It was completely focused around the Dark Side of the Force, yet still intended to help save the Republic. The Jedi influenced by the Dark Side, including Revan, believed and were dedicated to aiding the Republic. They believed that they could help the Republic and Jedi by studying the Dark Side of the Force but in the end they were overcome by it.
Revan's plan was to save the Republic before it was destroyed. While Revan and his followers possessed the upper hand against the Mandalorians, the Republic had weakened before the tide changed so that many believed it was too late. First, Revan rebuilt the academy on Malachor V. Second, he used the Dark Side of the planet to turn his strongest followers to the Dark Side and to his own will. In his academy, he formed the Sith Assassins, a group of highly trained, secret killers; not even Malak knew of them.
Revan further improved his army when the final battle of the Mandalorian Wars occurred above Malachor V. He used the darkness of the planet to turn all orbiting Jedi towards his will and bring them to the Dark Side. The Mandalorians retreated, and Revan and Malak, with their massive fleet, followed the Mandalorians into the Unknown Regions.
For a long time, nothing was heard from the two "Jedi Knights" or the vast fleet and army they had taken with them. The Republic and Jedi Order believed them to be dead, and moved on to other matters, never considering the Dark Side or the Sith influencing events. There were reports of Revan and Malak being spotted on several planets, including Dantooine, Korriban, Tatooine, Kashyyyk, and Manaan. On these planets, they were searching for the keys that would lead them to the Star Forge. Revan still believed he was working in the name of the Republic, and, his apprentice Malak was simply following his master like a loyal servant.
In time, they discovered the star maps that took them even closer to the lost Rakatan artifact. Revan found it, along with the last remnants of the Sith Empire. Revan took control of Empire, crowning himself Darth Revan, Dark Lord of the Sith and Malak (pictured) became his Dark Side apprentice. His plan was to build a fleet and attack the Republic in order to protect it from threats or, if he were to be defeated, strengthen it. At all times, Revan believed he was working to help the Republic. One year after they had disappeared from orbit around Malachor V, Revan and Malak returned to Republic space, but this time with a massive fleet built by the Star Forge, as well as the will to wage war. The hero had become the conqueror.
The Second Sith War was later determined to be event even worse than the Great Sith War. Revan and Malak first took their large fleet and raided Foerost, seizing a large portion of the Republic fleet and crippling the already weakened Republic to a greater degree. Revan's plan was to assure the Republic would not connect Revan to the Mandalorian War, but would still be weak enough to be an easy target. Revan was probably one of the greatest strategists in Sith history, aside from the great Darth Sidious.
Malak had his portion of the fleet bombard Telos IV, one of the Republic's key military planets, until it became uninhabitable. Revan's Sith Assassins secretly and silently swept through the Republic kidnapping Jedi throughout the galaxy. Many Assassins killed their hostages, while the extremely loyal ones turned their captives to the Dark Side to assist the Sith fleet and their master.
With a fleet rivaling the great Rakatan Empire's, Revan and Malak were unstoppable as they conquered planet after planet, all the while claiming they were simply protecting the Republic. Revan formed an alliance with the Czerka Corporation that brought him endless credit flow and resources and conquered key, tactical and strategic worlds. After the first few months, worlds began to surrender to his might in fear of being destroyed like Telos IV or suffer an even worse fate.
It seemed as if the Republic was doomed, and that Revan and Malak would succeed in taking it over for "protection". However, there was still one card to play: the Jedi.
Finally, the Jedi intervened and led the Republic to small, insignificant victories. One Jedi in particular, Bastila Shan, used her rare gift of battle meditation to bring the Republic many victories, but still not enough to ensure complete victory.
The Jedi formed a plan. During a battle, when all seemed lost for the Republic, a Jedi strike team led by Bastila boarded Revan's flagship and cornered him on the bridge. Then, Malak, who was commanding another capital ship, fired upon his master's ship in an effort to destroy all his enemies in one stroke, but also his master. Revan's ship was destroyed, but Bastila was able to use the force to save her and Revan's life. They evacuated, and Revan's mind was reprogrammed by the Jedi Council. Revan was once again a Jedi, although the same could not be said for his apprentice, Malak.

Thinking Revan dead, Malak appointed himself Darth Malak, Dark Lord of the Sith. He continued Revan's attack against the Republic, but with a different goal. Revan had hoped to bring down the Republic and rebuild it better then ever. As such, he had kept key planets and locations intact. Malak, on the other hand, wanted only to destroy the Republic once and for all. Malak continued to attack Republic planets achieving countless victories. In one battle over Taris, he attempted to capture Bastila Shan but she successfully escaped. In the end, Bastila and Revan, the Jedi, discovered the location of the Star Forge.
A massive battle ensued between Sith and Republic forces around the Star Forge. This would be the last battle of the Second Sith War. Revan boarded the Star Forge, where he confronted the Dark Jedi Bastila. Revan continued on to the bridge where he confronted Malak. They dueled in an epic battle against each other, master against student. Realizing defeat, Malak drew the life out of the Jedi captives onboard before being destroyed by his old master. With Darth Malak dead, the Republic destroyed the Star Forge, defeated the Sith fleet, and claimed victory.

V-The Triumvirate and the Shadow War
Despite the defeat and destruction of the Star Forge, the Sith were not completely destroyed. The Sith Assassins continued to linger and two Dark Jedi known as Nihilus and Sion would become major players in the Shadow War against the Jedi.
Jedi Master Kreia took it upon herself to discover the reason for Revan's fall. The Jedi had been missing for months now, and was presumed dead. In her travels, Kreia came across the Trayus Academy on Malachor V where Revan trained his Sith Assassins. On Malachor V, the Dark Side overwhelmed her and she became Darth Traya. She took two students, Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion, both of which were surviving Dark Jedi from the Second Sith War. With these three, she formed the Triumvirate, a small alliance between the three Sith.

Unlike the Sith Empire, the Triumvirate's goal was not to bring down the Republic, but rather to destroy the Jedi Order. They initiated the Shadow War against the Jedi Order, as they did not openly wage war. Instead, their actions were done completed with secrecy, assuring they would not be discovered.
However, Nihilus and Sion grew tired of Traya's views of doing everything from the shadows. They cast her out of the Triumvirate, and continued the conquest on their own. Nihilus and Sion continued to track down and kill the remaining Jedi until they came to a Jedi Exile they thought to be the last living memory of the Jedi Order, however various other Jedi had secretly survived this purge. This Exile was hunted from planet to planet by Sith Assassins, who were under contract with Sion and Nihilus. Eventually, the Exile bonded with Darth Traya, who had changed her name back to Kreia. They worked together to keep each other alive, but when the Dantoonie Jedi Council was murdered, the Exile discovered the true Sith identity of Kreia. The Exile struck her down, along with Darth Nihilus and Darth Sion, and ended the First Jedi Purge. Five years later after the Jedi Purge ended, the surviving members of the Triumvirate factions turned on each other, destroying the Triumvirate legacy forever.
