Races and Species

I – Introduction

We come in contact with different beings every day, but can we determine their origins and chemical make-up just by looking at them? This course will give you an in-depth look on how each race and species interacts and close the mysteries that surround many of the rumors we hear today. This particular exam will focus on Near Human and Humanoid races and species.

II – Near Human/Humanoid

A – Human

The most populated species in the galaxy, and the primary race of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. Trillions of this bipedal species are spread across the galaxy in colonies and cities alike. Often times referred to as the most resourceful yet stubborn race, there have been countless of human heroes and foes in the history of the universe. Famous human Dark Jedi include Jac Cotelin, Aristan Dantes, Muz Ashen, Kir Katarn, Darth Bane, Exar Kun, and Lord Vader.

Human

i – History

Humans have inhabited the galaxy since before written record, around 200,000 BBY. However, the early history of humans has been lost through time, though archaeologists have speculated that the humans originated on the planet Notron (an archaic name for Coruscant). Other theories regarding humans’ origins include that humans come from the ancient Zhell nations; an ancient civilization such as the Rakata transported humans as slaves; and even a theory conceived by known Jedi Revan, which claims that humans lived on Tatooine and those who were not taken away from the planet to be slaves evolved into what we know now as the Sand People.

Regardless of the murky origins of the species, humans were able to travel around space very early in their history, expanding from Coruscant to other known core planets. They even went as far as the Outer Rim and became instrumental in the political proceedings of the galaxy. Humans were ultimately responsible for the Unification Wars and the founding of the Old Republic, creating a humanocentric environment that marked non-humanoids as “alien” and viewed them as second class citizens (this can also be traced to the populist movement known as “Human High Culture.”)

Most if not all of the galactic governments and regimes in the galaxy have been founded by humans. The Galactic Empire, the New Republic, and the Galactic Alliance are prime examples of these governmental changes. Humans may also be credited for creating an interstellar civilization using hyperspace technology from the Rakatas who once enslaved them.

ii – Statistics

With an average height of 1.7 meters, they can match any other humanoid species. Life expectancy of a human is 100 years, with numbers as high as 300 among Force sensitive individuals.

iii – Anatomy

Humans, like many other sentient species, have a torso, two legs, two arms, and a head. They also have two eyes, one nose, and one mouth. Their skin ranges from pale to dark brown, and their hair and eyes come in a variety of different colors. Luke Skywalker, a known human in the galaxy, was declared a “10th degree human” by a supercomputer known as Mistress Mnemos, though it is still unclear what that classification actually signifies.

B – Zabrak

A carnivorous near-Human species also known as Iridonians. While Zabrak resemble humans to some degree, they have specific features that set them apart from other humanoid species. They are a race known for strive for independence and self-determination, and many were warriors and adventurers. Perhaps the most famous Zabrak of all is Darth Maul, a member of the Nightbrothers on Dathomir and an apprentice to Darth Sidious.

i – History

Much like the humans, Zabrak established established several colonies outside their home planet, becoming instrumental participants in galactic affairs. Several xenoarchaelogists believe that the Elomin, which share similar traits to the Zabrak, descended from Zabrak colonists on Elom. The Zabrak were also heavily influenced by the Sith, who traveled to Iridonia and were in contact with the Iridonian high council until they were presumably wiped out during the Seventh Battle of Ruusan.

While there is not much early Zabrak history documented, the Zabrak have been involved in governmental and Jedi affairs. Two Zabrak, Eeth Koth and Agen Kolar, served on the Jedi High Council until the rise of the Galactic Empire. The Zabrak’s natural strong-willed mannerisms inspired them to fight off the Empire’s influences despite sanctions and destruction imposed against them, and they later united as one race and joined the New Republic with the steadfast resolve to never been oppressed again.

ii – Statistics

The average height of a Zabrak is 1.8 meters, which like the humans can match other humanoid species. The life expectancy of a Zabrak is yet to be documented.

iii – Anatomy

Like humans, the Zabrak are a bipedal species with two eyes, one nose, and one mouth. However, they are distinguishable by the series of vestigial horns that grew on their heads. These horns grow in adolescence and are of varying passages, signifying an upcoming rite of passage. Zabrak subspecies also have horns, but their other features vary from subspecies to subspecies. For instance, skin tones in Zabrak range from peachy white to brown to red to black; while some have eyebrows and differing shades of eyes ranging from purple to red to yellow to orange. One trait that also make Zabrak recognizable are their facial tattoos, which they received during their rites of passage; these tattoos symbolize family heritage, place of birth, individual personalities, and more.

C – Anzat

A dangerous near-Human species that can feed upon the brains of their prey. Anzati are beings who can imbibe another Force-sensitive’s energies, which they call “soup,” and can subsequently strengthen their connection with the Force. Because of this, the Anzati rely on other sentient species to survive, making them much like the vampires of the galaxy. Famous Anzati Dark Jedi include Volfe Karkko and Nikkos Tyris.

Special Magistrates to the Headmaster are the Headmaster's trusted assistants. They are tasked with assignments of great importance to the Shadow Academy and execute them with the full authority of the Headmaster.
