Dawn of a New Age (31 ABY)

For earlier history, see the Clan's origins (14 ABY–27 ABY) and the Clan's battles (27 ABY–31 ABY) during the Vong War.

The end of the Vong War could not have come soon enough. The Dlarit Navy had been devastated during the final battle against Warmaster Varesh Shai and the Baanu Amnan worldship; and Kar Alabrek remained contaminated with the biological weapons the aliens had released into the streets, forcing the military population to evacuate to the unfinished second mining city, Markosian City–which had previously been intended as a new home to rehouse the burgeoning refugee population camped outside Seng Karash and infesting the lower levels of the Sky City on Amphor.

Rediscovering the past

During the Yuuzhan Vong attack, Malisane de Ath had been badly injured by the blast that killed Severina but which also destroyed Dystopia–crushing Malisane's body in the process. Though Dyrra Skye and Raistlin Majerus recovered the body from the rubble, a still shell-shocked Malisane fled the emergency triage unit he'd been taken too in the police headquarters–following a voice that called to him deep in the savage wilderness that spanned the surfaace of Aeotheran, where he was drawn to the secluded black temple deep in the jungle known only as the Bastion.

Upon the Clan's return from their victory in the Tingel Arm, Malisane revealed the Bastion's existence; his "discovery" came much to the anger of Robert Daragon who already knew of the ancient fortress's existence. Daragon explained how more than a decade ago, before the Exodus, the Bastion had been the original fortress within which then-consul Xanos Zorrixor secretly orchestrated the colonisation of the Orian system with Trevarus Caerick, two years before the Seven's plans were revealed to the Clan at large. Later, following the construction of Sadow Palace on Sepros, it had become home to House Primus Goluud–until ten years ago, when the house fell in the battle against the madness which had destroyed the ancient Star Chamber millennia earlier that had now been unwittingly released from Antei. Following the third house's collapse, Daragon told Malisane how the Bastion had been sealed shut and the house's legacy erased from record, both to ensure any trace of the plague that had started with Okemi was never to return, and to contain the entity the Sons of Sadow believed to inhabit the walls of the Bastion–and which many blamed for the third house's downfall. Despite Daragon's warnings, however, Malisane began to reveal the Bastion's existence to a select few Disciples of Kressh, believing the secrets locked away in its walls held the power to strengthen the Clan against whatever future threats they might face.

Over on Tarthos, the Disciples of Ragnos found themselves similarly in need of a new settlement: Mucenic. While Alabrek Castle had not been destroyed in the Vong-led blitz, the state of Kar Alabrek led Fremoc Pepoi and Manji Keibatsu to relocate much of their disciples' training and study to the ancient monastery of Mucenic in a range of hills far outside either of the planet's two principle settlements. While clean-up crews from the Dlarit Special Operations Group had been sent into the Hub to re-secure what remained of Ragnos Cathedral, the rest of Kar Alabrek was for now left to its fate while the house focused on finishing the last stages of construction of Markosian City and outfitting the new Temple of Ragnos in the monastery. In an ironic turn of fate, with DSOG now maintaining a small security station in the old Cathedral, the ever-standing Dark Library had become an even more remote and inaccessible place, located in the heart of the devastated garrison city, a city that on all official records was now uninhabited–but which for the Disciples of Ragnos, remained a vault of unimaginable knowledge.

Arming the Black Guard

The previous year, when the Clan joined minds to defeat the spirit-possessed Cyrus Raze during the battle against Omancor Crask on Antei, they had all hoped the Betrayer's spirit destroyed for good. Shan Long, however, had always remained doubtful, and had spent the past year with his new apprentice, Kharon Daragon, to arm themselves for the final battle should that day ever come. So using the fragments of the Star of Ombus that the oracle had collected over the years, and with the help of the revered alchemist, Macron Goura–who sought to redeem himself for his unwitting role in assisting the Vong attack due to the spineray that had sat embedded in his neck–the three had worked to forge the weapons that could at last slay the demon-possessed Betrayer: the Soul Rippers. The weapons' construction could not have come soon enough, for the Vong attack had not only brought ruin to the Clan on a scale not seen since the Exodus, but had seen the return of Ylith Atema to the Orian system–who brought with him confirmation of what the Sons of Sadow had long been dreading: Vexatus had survived. With the seven blades' completion, Daragon took to training the seven warriors of the Order of the Black Guard in the use of the Soul Rippers–as ironic a reversal as any that the Order the Betrayer himself had once helped found might one day bring about his final destruction.

The refugee problem

With so many soldiers and miners dead, the refugee population were offered a chance to take up employment with Dlarit Mining, or enlist in the Dlarit Security Force and transfer to Markosian City like originally planned… but not everyone could be provided a place; though it was marketed as a lottery, in truth selection was the result of aptitude and medical assessments, as well as full background checks–after the betrayals of the numbers who had sided with the Peace Brigade traitor Sylus Vega, the Disciples of Sadow never again wished to allow any scum into the walls of their cities. For those who won a place, Orian once again became the jewel that it had been marketed as before the outbreak of the war; for those who failed, they were shipped off to an isolated Resettlement Center that was set up on Aeotheran as a place to keep the remaining refugees–where they would be out of sight, out of mind.

Despite the lingering fallout from the war, with Varesh Shai's raids along the Hydian Way finally ended the Corporation was able to resume normal trade relations with the Corporate Sector for the first time in nearly five years. And with commercial convoys through Orian Space no longer requiring military escort–which could no longer have been provided anyway with the Dlarit Navy undergoing heavy repairs–the Corporation was able to begin repatriating at least some of the rejected refugees back to their respective homeworlds. However, the repatriation was stalled by the failure of the Galactic Alliance to make the many devastated worlds inhabitable again due to the corruption of corporations like RePlanetHab. As such, with Markosian City having been snatched out from under the refugees' feet right when they thought they would be provided a new home, public dissent began to take root amongst those forced into the new refugee camp, the Aeotheran Resettlement Center being referred to by many simply as the "tent city." Not long after the refugees on the Sky City of Amphor were relocated to the new resettlement village, the Repatriation Programme saw a brief spate of murders; more worryingly, several of the deceased were found to have lightsabers on their persons. Come the start 32 ABY, the identity of the assailants still remained a mystery.

Early the next year, unconvinced by the propaganda the Corporation was spreading about the refugee camp and with the help of an undisclosed backer, the Seng Karashi businessman Ven Dastari founded the Campaign Arguing Refugee Equality, or C.A.R.E, in the hopes of securing an amnesty for all those now confined to the Resettlement Center. While C.A.R.E. was dismissed by many citizens who argued Orian had enough problems of its own, support grew amongst some such as Lady Chessene of the Blue Hutt cantina, who used her business to smuggle supplies out to the refugee camp behind Dlarit Police's backs. Bolstered by the businessman's campaign, some of the refugees banded together to form the Voice of Justice, a peaceful protest group that sought to bring awareness of their plight to the citizens of Seng Karash through direct action.

The Underworld (32 ABY)

Many had lost family members during the Vong invasion, and there were few who hadn't suffered during the attacks on Seng Karash, San Korinar and Kar Alabrek the previous year. While the Corporation had been aware of the growing drugs trade in body-enhancing steroids for some time, with the Vong and Vega Incorporated to deal with Dlarit Security had been stretched to thin to afford to divert resources to deal with what was seen as a minor problem. The contamination of Kar Alabrek changed all this; the criminal underworld had been more than happy to fill the void left by Dlarit Security being displaced from their homes and having to move to Markosian City. With Orian's security at risk, the Clan took steps to infiltrate the drug ring in order to cut off its head, a crime boss named Drastig. Agrist was sent to scout the mobile space station called Refuge, however when he disappeared, Manji Keibatsu assembled a team under the guise of a Keibatsu nobleman from Kyataru seeking to do business with Drastig. Taigikori Aybara, Macron Goura, Malisane and Tsainetomo Keibatsu accompanied the "nobleman" under the guise of his Nihilgenia bodyguards, with other members of the Clan infiltrating Refuge separately, smuggling in the Keibatsu party's weapons. After rearming themselves, the group split up to hunt down Drastig's henchmen, such as the Ripper Crew who Kano Verda took out in Sector 4. With the splicers plying Drastig's trade dealt with, the main team brought down the crime lord himself. With Drastig dealt with, the problems in Orian quietened down, however with nothing to distract them anymore the citizens began to pay more notice to the calls for justice from C.A.R.E.

Salas V (32 ABY)

Nearly two years after the reclamation of Antei, the Grand Master sounded a call to arms for all the Clans of the Brotherhood. The Star Chamber sought the planet Salas V, which was infested by an unknown insectoid species; the Army of the Iron Throne had so far sustained heavy losses, so a Vendetta was declared—the prize, Salas, going to the Clan who helped the Council capture it. Despite most of the Dlarit Navy being lost in the final battle against Varesh Shai and the fleet's replacements still undergoing construction in the Corporate Sector, the Disciples of Sadow were quick to respond to the request of one of their own. Touching down on Salas, the Clan somehow found themselves besieged by Killiks, an ancient species that was thought to have gone extinct before the Galactic Republic had even been founded.

Soon after the conquest began, the Clan stopped an attempt by Clan Tarentum to subvert the disciples' efforts, what was presumably evidence of tensions between the clans still lingering from their near-declaration of war during the fighting against Omancor Crask two years earlier. The Clan learned the creatures did not just kill their foes, some were hauled back to their nest where the sustained effect of the insects' pheromones warped people's minds, absorbing them into the hive mind in what was known as Joining. In the push for the main Killik nest itself, the Clan was hindered by House Revan, who went on to clear out the nest's queen with Clan Taldryan. Nevertheless, the Disciples of Sadow fought valiantly on the planet's surface, upstaging the Arcona Expeditionary Force for their failed attempt to seize Orian for themselves back in 29 ABY. Although the planet was ultimately handed to the warriors of House Revan, the Clan was rewarded with one of the Sith holocrons which had been found in the possessions of the Jedi Lord Omancor Crask.

Assault on Mucenic (32 ABY)

With Kar Alabrek in ruins, and the Dlarit Navy still undergoing repairs, midway through 32 ABY the reclusive monastic retreat of the Disciples of Ragnos, Mucenic, was assaulted by a faction, led by Drosk Nunes, calling itself the Divine Reborn, who bypassed Tarthos's defences. Kalei Basai issued an alert to Fremoc Pepoi and his son Thomas. Whilst Kalei led the other evacuees to the Hidden Hangars, Fremoc ordered Thomas to take the infant Darra Pepoi to the Immortal Tomb, which only two knew the entrance to. The Night Raptors arrived from Markosian City, entering the grounds of Mucenic, killing several of the attacking cultists, as a transmission was sent to Sepros, requesting immediate assistance from Sadow Palace. Responding to the distress call, Robert Daragon arrived with the Night Hawks, heading to the Immortal Tomb and escorting Thomas and Darra to the Final Way, which was now in orbit, where they reunited with Teu Pepoi. Back down on the surface, Kano Verda and Methyas L'eonheart fought their way through Drosk's followers, until they found the leader of the Divine Reborn had taken Fremoc captive, chaining him to a wall. While Kano engaged Drosk in a duel to the death, Methyas cut Fremoc free, before the pair—followed by the rest of the Disciples of Ragnos now arriving—joined the fight. Realising he was outnumbered, Drosk unleashed a wave of Force energy, driving his attackers back, and buying him time to escape to his transport. But once in space, the Special Operations Group captured the transport, bringing Drosk aboard, where Taigikori Dupar and Manji Keibatsu forced his surrender, carting him off to an interrogation cell. However, before learning where the mysterious cult had originated from, Teu Pepoi assassinated the leader of the Divine Reborn, taking revenge for what he had done to her family.
