Tavens' mocha colored skin covers his highly defined musculature. Bald by choice, Tavens keeps his hair shaved down to the skin revealing a perfectly round skull. His face, devoid of any scarring or distinguishing marks, also has a bushy, black goatee. Martel's thin lips are just a shade darker than the rest of his skin and his sapphire blue eyes are set above his snub nose with a narrow bridge and a subtle upward slope at the tip
The founding of empires, the plight of republics, the rise and fall of orders, none of these things matter to Tavens. Instead, he focuses on life at a more micro level and the problems common beings are faced with everyday like where they are going to get their next meal or how to avoid getting killed by overzealous security forces.
When you live life on a perpetual crusade you make a lot of enemies and have little time for love. While his list of dangerous challenges is ever expanding, at least Tavens doesn’t have to worry about anyone at home questioning his life’s decisions.
Tavens appearance is important to him at all times. He keeps his gear meticulously clean and is even known to sneak off and brush his hair after removing his helmet. This narcissistic tendency is seen by some as a weakness to exploit but Tavens believes that looking the part is important to projecting an aura confidence.
Tavens is intensely protective of his home and considers himself a champion of his fellow Caelus system residents, specifically those on bottom rungs of the social ladder. His efforts have caused the citizenry to be fiercely loyal to their protector, shielding him from law enforcement and other interlopers. But Tavens’ focus on his locality has limited his ability to travel the galaxy. As such, Tavens lacks confidence when operating outside of the Caelus system and must rely heavily on the support of well travelled allies.
To Tavens, combat is more of an art form than a science. He gives little thought to tactics, strategy or even general planning, preferring instead to lose himself to the moment and rely on his instincts. While this approach makes him fairly unpredictable to enemies, it does the same for his allies as well. Tavens' freewheeling approach can frustrate allies looking for a more structured plan and also tends to leave him vulnerable to a well disciplined, cohesive enemy force.
When it comes to his enemies Tavens isn’t simply comfortable with a violent solution, he prefers one. Once he has decided that someone is part of the problem Tavens sees no need for further discussion and instead let his weapons do the talking. Much to the chagrin of his benefactors, Tavens shoots to kill and leaves few, if any, survivors that could be interrogated later.
