Physical Description
Decades immersed in the Dark Side have left Palpatine's body twisted and deformed. His skin is deeply wrinkled and a sickly ashen tone, except for the deep pits of his eyes, which appear bruised. Thin whisps of white hair can be seen on the rare occasion when his head is uncovered. Palpatine is almost always wearing a simple, hooded black robe of thick zeyd cloth, and often walks with a gnarled cane for support. His face is usually concealed beneath the hood of his robes.

Palpatine has always been a political animal, and drew upon the Senate and legal system as much as the Dark Side during his rise to power. He has no true appreciation for government or the rule of law, instead viewing the Republic and Empire as tools for personal domination. Although he frequently makes reference to democracy and legitimate authority, in reality Palpatine is concerned only with himself.
Palpatine's need to dominate others is the core of his personality. At times, this need for others to recognize his power and brilliance leads him to waste opportunities to kill his opponents as he instead tries desparately to get them to acknowledge his authority over them.

Palpatine is addicted to the power of the Dark Side, and exults in luring others into its embrace. He strokes fear, hate, and jealousy in everyone around him. While Palpatine gains strength from this, he is, perhaps, the most hated man in the galaxy. Many believe his violent end is only a matter of time.
There can be no compromise between Palpatine and his enemies; they must all be destroyed. He is prone to elaborate overkill, deploying massive armies and superweapons to deal with even small enemy forces. Unfortunately for him, this brutality and reliance on violence only spurs on further resistance.

Palpatine exults in the Dark Side. Despite his proficiency with a lightsaber, he prefers to attack his enemies with Telekinesis and Force Lightning. Even when he does stoop to activating his blade, he draws on the Force with every movement. Although this grants him formidable strength, it has takena considerable toll on his body and risks destroying him altogether.
Although he is a master of the Force and lightsaber combat, Palpatine shies away from direct confrontations whenever possible. Instead, he draws upon his military or his apprentices to do his dirty work. When forced to directly confront an opponent, he will lie, cheat, and bluff his way into a superior position. This has served him well in the past, but Palpatine may one day discover that he's not quite as clever as he believes.
