Lyra Colony: Center City, Old Lyra Square

The social nexus for the general population of the Lyra Colony, Old Lyra Square is a large, open plaza with a simple square fountain rising up in the middle.  The ground is paneled with white stone tiles and surrounded by shops, restaurants, and other buildings.  Some of the more notable locales include Belvan's Blaster Emporium, Andro's Assorted Armors, and the Troig restaurant Thameesinplaaz's Eatery.   Announcements and alerts are displayed via a large wall screen billboard on a chronometer tower centered on the northern line of stores.  During the day, a few portable stalls are also set up around the edge, hiding under and around the shade of varied retractable awnings. 

On most days foot traffic is fairly busy, echoing with the sounds of citizens shopping and socializing.  Occasional law enforcement patrols cut through the throngs to maintain a sense of order amidst the shoppers while the rare mercenary or two passing through tends to stick out like a sore thumb.  On slow days, little more can be heard than the water of the fountain and the artificial buzzing of various shop signs and advertisements.  Additionally, Old Lyra Square is the site for various festivals and celebrations as well as public events.  On these days, crowds form in numbers that may make it difficult to navigate.
