Fist Report #34

Message from the Fist

Aloha DB Gamers! Few items of note this month. Biggest area that I hope you take the time to read is the updated Rites of Combat. Please pay attention to these. I have vetted these changes with the Dark Council and your Consuls. All changes were carefully reviewed by the Justicar.

Before I get into the meat of the report, a lot of you asked me how long my return to the position of Fist will last. Simply put, it is up to the Grand Master. I have told Mav I will remain in position as long as it takes for him to comfortably search for and hire a new Fist. I won’t assume any timelines, but if you are interested in taking up the role of Fist, I strongly suggest you start to think about what you want to put in your application. I said it last time, and I’ll say it again: put some thought into what you write in your application. There is no chance that Single Player Clusters will ever be a thing. You are wasting your time if you put that in there. Also, the GM had a follow up to that: don’t recommend that we give clusters out for every single game that people play. That also is not something that is going to happen.

Now then. Let’s get to it.

Here’s the TL;DR.

  1. RoC Update and The Tenets of Brotherhood Gaming
  2. Dauntless Support
  3. Destiny 2 Update

RoC and the Tenets of Brotherhood Gaming

The Rites Of Combat are the governing rules for all gaming in the DJB. As the way we game changes, so too do the rules that govern how we keep gaming fun and fair in the club.

One of the more common complaints about the Rites of Combat is that they could be relatively confusing. Most of the rules boil down to the very basic “don’t be a jerk” concept. If you look at the Gaming Information Page, you will see a new section called “The Tenets of Brotherhood Gaming”. This was initially drafted by Alaris prior to his departure, and further edited by myself to create a very basic list of Dos and Don’ts. The tenets are as follows:

The Tenets of Brotherhood Gaming

Set Up Games Fairly

  • Ensure that you are in DB Gaming in order to participate in Cluster awarded activities. This is mandatory for all gaming during vendettas.
  • Ensure you are using the Bot correctly for PvP.
  • Announce your intention to play FFAs or Team PvP.

Respect the Game

  • Make sure to use the base game without mods that provide an advantage.
  • Make sure to check with your teammates or opponents before using game mode variations.
  • Make sure to game in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

Respect your Opponents and Teammates

  • Don’t gloat when you win or complain when you lose.
  • Make sure to treat your opponents and teammates as they wish to be treated.
  • Attempt to play with several different members to encourage participation and cooperation.
  • When playing online, remember you represent the Brotherhood. Avoid spawn camping, spawn killing, derogatory language, and play respectably.
  • If you have an issue with the way a teammate or opponent has conducted themselves, speak to them, then the Fist/P:Fist.

Respect the Rules

  • Adhere to the Rites of Combat.
  • Adhere to the Covenant.
  • Adhere to the Competition Details.

Report Fairly

  • Double check the final score with your opponent.
  • Double check your screenshots before uploading.
  • Report any mis-reporting as soon as it’s noticed.
  • Submit your screenshots in a timely manner. (Note: you now have a max of 48 hours to submit screenshots. No banking to increase chances to max out a new week.)

For the Rites of Combat, the following clarifications have been made:

Section 2.2(d): Members shall not announce in chat that they are in queue for 1v1 PvP at any time. Fist Note: This is to prevent any match dodging. The Fist Bot is designed to prevent members from knowing who is in queue. There have been problems throughout the club’s history of members actively avoiding playing a member they know they cannot defeat in a 1v1 duel. This rule is non-negotiable and will result in warnings and possible gaming bans should members decide to violate it.

Section 5.3(a-c): Match Dodging Fist Note: Completely re-written. Adds PvP leaderboards hidden for all Vendettas, Clan Feuds/Co-op, and Fist run competitions. Reinforces ban for members announcing for 1v1 queues only.

Section 5.4: Fist-o-Matic Fist Note: Defined timelines for bot infractions. Members who fail to confirm on multiple occasions will receive three warnings and then a 24 hour ban. Members will received additional 24 hour bans for each subsequent violation after this point. Warnings will be reset after 90 days of proper adherence to the rules.

Something I want to make clear about how RoC infractions are handled. For minor infractions (improper use of the bot, PvP announcement, and some instances of unsportsmanlike conduct), the Fist has the authority to enact warnings and execute gaming bans. For all major infractions (allegations of cheating, match dodging, match falsification, and certain cases of unsportsmanlike conduct), the members will submit an initial report to the Fist who will gather relevant information and then raise the concern to the Justicar.

The Fist is the first stop in any gaming related RoC process. Unintentional violation of the rules is always going to be addressed by the Fist first. In 99% of all issues, a single warning or concern is enough to stop a problem before it gets out of hand. In the rare case that a violation is so egregious that it warrants further action, then, and only then will the Justicar and Chamber of Justice be pulled into the mix. Forgetting that you aren’t supposed to announce your intent to play 1v1s isn’t an automatic trip to Bubba’s office. Intentional cheating? That’s going to be handled accordingly.

So in short, do not let the RoC scare you away from casual or even competitive gaming. If you have a question, ask me, Junazee, or any member of the staff. We’re here to make sure that gaming is fair, fun, and accessible for the entire club. I hold it as a point of pride that in my entire run as Fist there has not been a single instance where a gaming issue has warranted a Chamber of Justice case. Three years without a problem. I assure you, we are here to help, not punish.

So go have fun.

Dauntless Support is Live

Great work to all of you on making Dauntless a reality. Based off the screenshots collected and the high level of participation, I have added Dauntless as the newest supported platform in the DJB!

Dauntless is listed under the PvE category in your gaming portal. Support structure is as follows:

Base cluster value: 1 CE

Modifiers

  • Lesser: Base x 1 = 1 CE

  • Normal: Base x 1.5 = 1.5 CE

  • Dire: Base x 2 CE= 2 CE

  • Heroic: Base x 3 CE = 3 CE

  • 2-3 Players: x 1

  • 4-5 Players: x 1.1

Based off these values, the max you can earn at the highest difficulty level with a full DB team is calculated as 1(Base)x3(Heroic)x1.1(4 Players) = 3.3 CEs.

I will review the activity for Dauntless at the end of the month. Should activity continue at a steady pace, I will re-evaluate the game for possible Pendants of Blood.

NOTE: DO NOT SUBMIT ANY CLUSTER EARNING DAUNTLESS ACTIVITIES TO THE TEST COMPETITION. THAT COMPETITION STILL REQUIRES THE “NEW GAME TEST” ACTIVITY!!!!

Destiny 2

Some updates for Destiny 2 in preparation for the release of Shadowkeep:

Added two raids: Crown of Sorrows and Scourge of the Past. Both raids may be submitted as 3 Encounter events (do not select full clear).

Open season on Club Firsts for the following Raids:

Raid Lair (Leviathan): Eater of Worlds and Spire of Stars Last Wish Scourge of the Past Crown of Sorrows

Shadowkeep drops on 1 October. If you are a PC player make sure you are ready for the migration to Steam. Battle.net will cease to function soon.

For you new players, Destiny 2: New Light is 100% free to play. That means that the base game with the Year 1 expansions are open to you. You’ll be able to submit activities for Destiny 2 with the New Light content, so there is no need to spend any money. If you want to do everything, you can buy the expansions you want.

Admin and Policy Reminders

All current Gaming and Fist Policies can be found on the Gaming Information page. I suggest that all members read this page as it has some great info. I will make sure this page stays updated to reflect all current office policies. I do not want to confuse anyone, especially with what is and is not allowed in the DB Gaming Telegram room.

Other items of note:

  • The staff has 24 hours from the time you submit gaming activity to approve it. If your submission has been sitting for longer than that, there is a problem. If it hasn’t, there is no problem. The staff do their best to process gaming submissions as quickly as possible, but they are real people with real lives. I do not expect them to sit behind a computer processing gaming submissions all day, and neither should any of you.

  • Solo submissions are never acceptable for Clusters of Earth/Fire. My staff and I will reject any that come in. You must play with at least one other DB member, no exceptions. This is not changing any time in the near (or far) future.

  • Pendants of Blood are not acceptable for submission to cluster-counting competitions. If we see them, we will remand the request.

  • Reminder: Feel free to run Gaming competitions DB wide. Gaming is a slightly different community, and is one of the few that consistently brings club members together outside of the competitive environment. Most of the people I currently game are all in different clans. By opening up your event DB-wide, you increase the pool of possible participants, which could allow for a crescent upgrade!

  • Reminder: While I sincerely appreciate having proposals/great ideas sent to me via telegram, please email the staff list (email is at the bottom of this report). I ask that your House and Clan leadership take a look at your proposals before you send them up. This isn’t to add a layer of bureaucracy, it’s because I’m sure they’d like to know how you are trying to help the club improve...helps with award and promotion recommendations and all that. Feel free to cc them on your email to me and my staff.

It is good to be back in the seat, even though it is temporary. I want to thank Alaris for his efforts. His decision to step down was not an easy one.

Keep an eye out for the call for Fist applications. I hope that we will see some great ideas from those of you who think you have what it takes to become the next person to sit on the Salt Throne.

Mahalo, and keep on gaming.

-Dracpool, out.

good report. on dauntless. the max teams is 4 members, since this is a live game now, we need to have an official brotherhood clan in the game so it is easier to find opponents/members

Thanks to Drac, Alaris and Bubba for the work they put into cleaning up the Rites of Combat. Every member should look these over.

Brimstone:

I know it is 4 teams only. The modifier for 4-5 is a preexisting one.

On an official DB clan, the Fist does not require clan or guild membership in a game, nor does the office manage them. I recommend you ask for gamertags in DB Gaming and add them to your friends list.

Yay, thank you for adding. I do enjoy dauntless.

A lot of Great Stuff! Make sure you read over the ROC. Dauntless has a unique opportunity being it allows cross platform play! Have fun hunting behemoth's and submit your screenshots! May the Hunts be in your favor!? Huh? Haha, Game on!
