For the vast majority of Gavriel's life he has lived on a starship as part of a roving flotilla of refugees that had no planet of their own to call home. He has traveled widely and had the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life, and all manner of alien races. Gavriel has become quite comfortable interacting with anyone that the situation calls for, from nobility to street urchins and everything in between. Despite this level of comfort, however, he sometimes finds that his lack of experience in a particular region can sometimes cause complications. Due to the nomadic nature of the flotilla, Gavriel's diplomatic skills became focused on making a good first impression. He often stumbles when the time comes to create deeper, more lasting relationships, as by the time the need or opportunity for such arrived it was time for the flotilla to move on. As a result Gavriel has few close friends or well established contacts or allies on whom he can rely.

Gavriel loves to teach others about the Force, despite the relatively few opportunities he has had to do so over the years. He firmly believes that there are few, if any, limits on what a dedicated user of the Force can achieve. As such he is uncompromising in how he instructs students, deliberately seeking to guide students into learning new skills, or strengthen existing skills, by accomplishing tasks they themselves believe to be impossible. In the past, most of his students who experienced this teaching method and ultimately saw success were elated at the unexpected progress. Others who did not meet with success, and even some who did, ultimately became bitter at the perceived harsh treatment. Even knowing the possibility that he could lose a student (or worse create an adversary) due to his teaching methods, Gavriel remains uncompromising in his belief that they are the best teaching methods, and that his student could accomplish so much more if they pushed themselves harder.

Gavriel has spent years studying philosophies on the nature of the Force, from every race and culture that he can gain access to. While considered boring and pretentious by many, discussing these philosophies and how they can be applied to every day life is one of Gavriel's favorite activities. His fascination with the Force, and the various ways in which it has been viewed over the course of centuries, has resulted in Gavriel creating his own (as yet informal) philosophy regarding the nature of the Force. Within this philosophy, the Dark and Light sides of the Force are simply two sides of the same coin, neither able to exist without the continued existence of the other. As such Gavriel holds no ill will towards adherents of the Dark Side in general. In fact, if adherents of the Dark and Light could learn to trust and cooperate with each other, Gavriel believe they could both accomplish great things.

Gavriel shuns the trappings of wealth and privilege. He regularly dresses in plain clothes/robes with little ornamentation. He rarely wears anything more decorative than a simple blindfold to hide is empty Miralukan eye sockets. This means Gavriel has become quite comfortable getting by with a minimum of supplies or creature comforts. It also means that he pays little attention to such things when it would be helpful to do so, such as when making a first impression or interacting with people for whom wealth and appearances matter a great deal more.

Even as a Miraluka, a race that relies upon the Force to see the world around them, Gavriel has learned to rely upon the Force to an astonishing degree. He is sensitive to the promptings of the Force, especially when in combat, to guide his actions to the best available outcome. This can lead to what appears as moments of hesitation, where his training and skills dictate one particular course of action while a Force-whispered prompting guides him along a different course.

While trained to first use Diplomacy to resolve conflict, it was inevitable that Gavriel would eventually encounter a situation where combat was unavoidable. As such he was raised and trained from a young age in a very martial tradition that heavily emphasized the need to end a confrontation as quickly as possible. Fleeing from the conflict, if possible, is considered a viable option. If retreat is not possible, either because there is nowhere to flee to or because something/someone must be protected, he will bring all of his strength and skill to bear on with no reservation. He is exceptionally skilled in close quarters combat, either unarmed or with his lightsaber, when he can focus on a small number of opponents. Gavriel has no experience using any other weapon types, and is less effective when engaged in larger battles or in coordinated maneuvers with a group.
