Describing Bale as a big guy is an absurd understatement. Thick cords of muscles, those of a career bodybuilder, line his tanned body from head to toe. Nearly matching a Wookie in height, his mighty, broad-shouldered frame towers above most of his peers, his sheer mass oozing raw power and giving him the appearance of a child’s action hero figure come to life.
With a strong jawline and a furrowed brow that dominates his gruff features, he’s no pretty boy, not by any stretch of the word. Other traits that stand out are the Zabrak’s lack of facial markings—a well-known tradition amongst his species—and the dense, disheveled beard hanging from his face. Facial hair is an unusual trait for a Zabrak, hinting that there may be more to his heritage than Iridonian genes. In fact, if it weren’t for the crown of horns jutting out from his long, mangy, black mane, one might easily mistake him for one colossal, golden-eyed human.
A mess of scar tissue can be found around the remains of his left eye, which he now covers with a metal eyepatch.
Bale Andros jumped into the galactic spotlight after catching a big break with the "Blastech Cruise job" that other freelancers were wary to touch. After an explosive chase through Coruscant’s underworld and a public beat-down, the whole thing was captured by holocameras and subsequently fed to news outlets across the galaxy. As the story blossomed, so too did Bale's reputation. That reputation as a destructive force only grew further over the next decade of bounty hunting. People know who Bale Andros is but fame is a double-edged sword. Though he is retired from that life now, his notoriety has stuck by him and places him square on the radar of authorities across the galaxy as a person of interest, making travel difficult at times.
Empire, Republic, First Order. When your sense of loyalty is limited to the brand of alcohol you’ll throw back on any given night, these names mean precious little. Mining outposts out in the back end of the galaxy are no breeding ground for patriotism, and Bale never paid much attention to the ongoing conflicts of the galaxy. To this day, his allegiance rests with the highest bidder, a mindset that frequently puts him at odds with the patriotic zeal of loyalist types. In turn, such people eagerly dismiss him as a significant liability.
Bale’s true guiding stars, if he has any, are money and the proverbial throw of a dice.
The truth is, there is only one thing that truly matters to Bale: his daughter. The young Kaela Val is the center of his universe, his rock, his one reason to strap on his boots every morning. She makes him want to be a better man, drives him to be the best version of himself even if it’s in his own oft-misguided ways. At least, that’s how it used to be. What happens when your child is all grown up, cured of their degenerative sickness, and suddenly packing more power than you can begin to fathom? They leave the nest and go live their lives.
Now alone with no one to care for but himself, Bale has fallen back on his old, self-destructive routine of drinking, womanizing, drinking some more, and then beating the living hell out of anyone who looks at him sideways. One could take advantage of that vulnerability. Worse yet if something were to happen to Kaela.
You tend to live in the present and appreciate the simpler things in life when you grow up staring death in the face on a daily basis. That is Bale Andros to a T. Good laughs, good booze, good women, and a good rush of adrenaline, these are the kind of things that make him tick. He’s a simple man; jovial, crass, and all too loud, with an easy smile and an open door policy for anyone willing to share a drink, full of unflappable enthusiasm and uncaring of insults to himself or how others live their lives.
Taken at face value, some might find his heavy-handed approach at life basic, even barbaric, and in turn, dismiss him as a man of small intelligence. They would be wrong, but some, especially those of richer upbringing or high standards, tend to look down on him, unwilling to engage with him.
In a chase, there are those who vault over obstacles, and there are those who run around them. Then you’ve got Bale. Bale runs through them. A relentless hound, he’ll crush, smash and trample anything that stands between him and his prey. His natural resilience to pain and his raw physical power allow him to cut a swath through obstacles and close the distance without losing momentum. Yet there are obstacles that even he cannot surpass. He’s been known to take serious bodily harm during such chases, and he never quite seems to learn.
Despite never receiving any formal martial training, Bale Andros is a force to be reckoned with. A rowdy, blow-them-sky-high kind of fighter, Andros sports an affinity with blasters and explosives. What he lacks in theoretical know-how, he makes up for with sheer innate skill and raw physical power. What he lacks in finesse and grace, he makes up for with big guns and bigger explosions.
However, much like a tank, his slower movement and lesser agility could prove a severe shortcoming when facing against foes like Force-Users. In such situations, he will attempt to repel his enemies until he creates an opening.
