Kiera is perfectly capable of fulfilling responsibilities and doing her duties. But goofing off and having fun will always have a heavy sway in her decision making. She sometimes ignores orders or finds ways to spend as much time avoiding an assignment as possible.
Having been born inside a star-ship as opposed to planet-side, Kiera has never had a particular world to call her home. She grew up in an environment that requires being of use in order to survive, and without the borders that breed patriotism. The allegiances of the galaxy mean little to her, only the strength of individual merit. She is most at peace when in space, and will take on any contract or mission that enables her to remain firmly seated in a cockpit.
This utter lack of affiliation often results in what can be construed as insubordination and disloyalty, putting her at odds with those that value such things.
Kiera rarely acts without an alternate motive when it comes to lending aid or acting in a situation. Be it greed, power, or something else, almost undoubtedly Kiera is after something more than what she says - though sometimes Kiera is even blunt enough to admit to it. While her self-serving attitude comes as a boon, usually, to her survival and pocketbook, her relationships are often strained by her outright selfish attitude.
Kiera has a lot of trouble "fitting in" with the other kids at the orphanage she lives in. Her interests never seem to match the group, and her hybrid status has often been a subject of ridicule. This leads her to feel disconnected from her peers, and have severe feelings of inferiority. Because of this, she often cries herself to sleep with thoughts that she'll never be enough, and has gotten addicted to spice as a way to cope with the loneliness.
The teasing from the other children has also made her very insecure, and she will quietly start crying if any joke is made at her expense, even if it was nothing more than a lighthearted jest.
When Kiera gets in trouble, she finds no fault in bravely turning tail and getting the hell out of dodge. Obviously, this means that she tends to survive even the most deadly encounters... but the same can't always be said for her compatriots. This fact hasn't exactly made her the most popular among her peers, but hey, at least Kiera isn't dead yet.
Kiera, despite having the gift of the Force, absolutely hates it, preferring to solve situations with bargaining instead. She will never consciously use the Force, but if she gets angry or scared enough, she will unconsciously use the Force defensively or offensively, and will likely end up severely injuring or even killing the person who antagonized her, to her extreme guilt and fear.
