Through a combination of preparing, studying, and analyzing, Niel Suoh creates detailed battle plans and tries to think two steps ahead of the enemy. At times, however, this can lead to Niel Suoh creating complicated schemes that can baffle less intelligent subordinates.

Both Niel and Karasin are inseparable, bound by a link which is more than mere blood. Even with their varying skills and differences, when together the two are noted to instinctively coordinate, cover for one another's actions, and have an unspoken empathic connection with one another. While it has been proven not to be a case of outright telepathy, this link has led to the impression of Niel and Karasin being a single soul shared across two bodies.

Niel Suoh would much rather be behind a hand of good sabacc cards or a rare vintage of aged liquor than with his blasters or ship. More often than not, he will spend nights at high-end establishments gambling, drinking and "socializing". Niel Suoh can survive without the finer things, but he sure would rather not. This preference follows him onto the job, so it is not uncommon for Niel Suoh to insult a client or potential partner by commenting on their choice of beverage or recreation.

Despite his line of work, Niel Suoh still sees himself as a refined gentleman and will often put on a show of being haughty and arrogant to those he does not know. Niel Suoh only lets the mask slip to show his more laid back nature to those he trusts. To those he dislikes, he will actually become even more insufferable as taunts and quips without any regard for who or what he might be offending.

Niel Suoh possesses a single minded drive for victory, and a deep-seated martyr complex. When presented with a chance to wade into battle versus overwhelming odds, Niel Suoh does not hesitate, and instead rushes in, relying on skill, fate or chance to let him survive.

Niel Suoh is utterly devoted to success in combat, no matter the mission, no matter the cost. He has spent his life building himself in the image of war, utilizing a dogmatic regimen that has led him to a single-minded obsession with military success and requires intense physical and mental training. This training, however, has come at the cost of anything resembling empathy or concern for others - even his superiors and subordinates.
