Oderyn
Oderyn
Still growing into his frame, Oderyn's lean and wiring frame is lined with whip-cord muscles like a sleek hunting cat. His dark, messy spears of shoulder length hair part on the winds whim to frame a boyish face with smooth, tawny skin, gray eyes, and a defiant grin. His right shoulder features an intricate tribal tattoo in the shape of dark swirls of wind and cloud, and his left ear bears a feather earring, both a tribute to his lost tribe. He has a pale faded scar underscoring his right eye like permanent war paint.
Oderyn sees himself as the control subject in the science experiment called life. Often labeled as "boring" and "predictable", Oderyn keeps his wild and experimental side reserved for pet projects. This boring lifestyle leads to him being considered anti-social and when he does join others, instead of relaxing he prefers to keep quiet and observe.
While Oderyn will see a job through to its conclusion and put forward his best effort, it’s still just a job. Oderyn's true loyalties lie to his friends, and through thick and thin,he will stand by them and die for them if needed. This loyalty is reserved for those who have earned Oderyn's trust, putting him at odds with other Mercenaries that are only doing a job for the money. This also makes it harder for employers to trust his motives, often times creating extra competition and difficulty finding work. None of it matters to Oderyn, though, because loyalty to his friends is not something credits can buy.
Despite all the loss he's suffered in his young life, Oderyn tries to remain positive in the face of adversity, especially for the sake of his fellow orphans. He will not back down from a challenge, and will maintain a defiant grin against even the grimmest of odds. Yet beneath that confident veneer lies a dark layer of lingering guilt at his failure to protect his village and his family. While haunted by his past, he always keeps his focus forward and on the next step he has to take to not just survive, but grow stronger. He tries to balance hope with the grounded pragmatism that comes from learning first hand that life only takes things from you, and if you want to hold on to the things you care for, you have to fight and defend them.
Oderyn is a lateral thinker, and when he encounters problems or dilemmas, he is very good at improvising and coming up with alternative solutions. This allows Oderyn to find ways out of situations others might give up on. While these solutions are often not so obvious to others, Oderyn can typically explain and lead others through his plan...as long as they are patient and willing enough to trust him outside thinking.
Born with an intractable will and limitless courage, Oderyn will stand in the face of insurmountable odds and never retreat. Despite the fact that such acts of heedless bravery are inspiring and will sometimes result in victories worthy of song, just as often they result in his allies getting wounded or killed.
Through a mixture of cocksure courage and arrogant swagger, Oderyn will not back down from a challenge when called out, even if the wiser path is to walk away or let it go. Oderyn's personality does tend to rub a lot of people the wrong way, which generally puts him into situations that escalate quickly to violence. While he may not be the one to always start a fight, he will always see it through to its conclusion. Some have tried to play a challenge off as idle banter, but when Oderyn initiates or accepts a challenge, he does not hold back.
