Please note: This competition is open to Journeymen only! If you are above the rank of Knight (or equivalent) I will gladly read your entry and give you feedback, but you will not be able to place.

You and another Journeyman from House Mortis have been assigned to patrol the area near Castle Tarentum. The two of you have been outfitted with appropriate gear from the armory and two small, fast, underwater capable ships (specially modified starfighters are the most common) to patrol with. The Castle is on elevated alert status due to the recently discovered encampment on the peninsula nearby, so you have been asked to alter your route to pass near the camp and scan it so we can monitor for any significant changes.

During your patrol, something interesting, unusual or important happens! Write your story to show what makes this patrol interesting compared to the hundreds of other patrols we routinely fly.

There are only two restrictions for the story:

1. Don't destroy the encampment. They are heavily armed, well defended professional mercenaries and it's going to take a lot more than two of us to get rid of them.
   
2. Don't kill their leader or second in command.
   

Here's the twist!

You must join up with another Journeyman to write this story as a pair. Be sure to list both your names and PINs at the top of the fiction so you both get credit for your work.

Feel free to also enlist the help of anybody else in the Brotherhood to help you edit and advise you on your writing. They can't write your story for you, but it is a great idea to get help editing and fleshing out your ideas.

The winning entry may optionally become part of our House's official fiction canon, if the authors wish it.

Please submit entries in any popular word processing format (text, pdf, word, etc.) but do not submit links to Google Docs. Instead, export your Google Doc as a PDF and submit that. Entries will be graded using the standard fiction rubric.
