Competition: Nanite Plague

Finished
Nanite Plague

A plague of nanites has infested Eden City! The air there is quickly becoming unbreathable as the microscopic machines replicate, and in order to replicate they have begun breaking down the city's infrastructure to gather metal and plastics for more nanites. Much of the city's population has become sick. Crime and looting are rampant. It is unclear whether this is an attack or a scientific mistake, but in either case it threatens the stability of the Yridia System: Eden City is a primary source of wealth and supplies for Clan Tarentum, and its survival is crucial to Tarentum's own survival.

Teams are being dispatched from Castle Tarentum to deal with this threat: scientific teams to attempt to stop the nanite replication, military police to restore order in the city, covert operators to determine who is responsible and stop them, and supply convoys to provide aid to the population.

Write a story about members of one of these teams, and their participation in the event. Your character could be involved, or the story could be about the many NPC staff members who work for Tarentum. The story can be about any aspect of how Tarentum deals with this event with only one restriction: something interesting needs to happen that sets this group of people apart from the ordinary efforts.

Stories should be at least 250 words in length. Please submit them in any popular word processing format such as Word or PDF. Please do not submit links to Google Docs (you can export those as PDF instead). The winning story will become House canon and will be included in our official Mortis fiction. Stories will be graded using the standard fiction rubric.
