Competition: [MoA Week 1] Aliso Locations II (Lore Development)

Finished
[MoA Week 1] Aliso Locations II (Lore Development)

Although Aliso City is still not quite a thriving metropolis, though it is continuing to develop thanks to the many, wonderful entries to the first Aliso Locations competition during The Enemy Below. As Clan Plagueis’s power spreads and grows on its home planet, the Summit calls upon you once again, looking for expansion further from the capital.

For this event, your assignment is to create a description of one of the locations on the rest of Aliso, be it a single landmark/structure or a large location such as another settlement or a geographical area. Entries should be at least 200 words, but need not be excessively detailed or set up as a wiki article. The idea is more to create a concept that can be expanded to create an entire location. This is a chance to add something permanent to the Plagueis canon, and even those entries that don't place still might make it onto the DJB wiki as official canon for the clan. Also, keep in mind that you can branch into House-specific concepts as well as clan-wide ones. Just like the first competition, remember that the more interesting the idea, the better. If you want to finish well, try to think outside the box!

Entries will be graded on syntax, originality, and the quality of the writing used to create the location.

Djeri’s Retreat

Sitting on the largest of the Pearl Islands (a small archipelago about 2000 km north of Aliso City), Djeri’s Retreat is notable as a resort-style retreat for Aliso citizens lucky enough to afford it. The geothermal activity in the area has created natural hot springs creating a pleasantly temperate climate on the islands despite their high latitude. Geothermal baths are a popular attraction as a relief from the frigid air temperature, along with fine dining, casinos, and the other common indulgences of the upper class. The Retreat is establishing itself as the premier location on Aliso for the indulgence of the vices of the wealthy.

Popular as a spot for legitimate business deals, the locations in the Retreat do cater to less savory elements if one knows who to ask. With a permanent population of only about 10,000, most of the residents eek out a meager a living off of tips in the service industry for the rich vacationers. Popular cuisine is seafood, and fish are plentiful in the waters off the coast of the Pearl Islands.

Djeri’s Retreat is named for its owner and founder, Djeri Moraal, a businessman attempting to establish himself as one of the major power players in real estate on Aliso.

The Crystalline Grottos
Parmesan Crater

A series of sinkholes and pits at the bottom of a crater near the southern coast of Aliso's main continent, the Crystalline Grottos are indented crust formations filled with crystals and gems of various colors and sizes. Some are shallow, while some go to indeterminate depths. Most of the crystals are salt-based and nearly valueless but over time, the conditions present within the grottos produce dense enough specimens to be worth moderate value and even some strong enough to use in lightsaber construction. The true depths of the catacombs beneath the formations is currently unknown but they seem to create a labyrinthine tunnel network spiraling downward and deeper into the mainland. In the center of the area is a large, red crystal formation with blue streaks down it's surface. Although it is unknown how this formation actually occurred, it is theorized that the meteor or whatever impacted on Aliso to create the crater also catalyzed the crystal formations in the location's depths.

This location has the potential to be fun and dangerous place to do stuff in (mainly fight or explore). The idea of crystals is getting kind of old, but it's not something that I've seen in the Brotherhood lately and having a vertical setting could be useful in our clan-specific venue versatility.
