Competition: Writing Workshop: From A Certain Point Of View

Writing Workshop: From A Certain Point Of View

This competition will be the first of a series of competitions centered around developing your skills as a writer while stepping outside of the box and having fun with different concepts.

The mission, should you choose to accept it. Is to take a scene from one of your favorite stories - whether it be one of your own works or something from another author (please credit original author in your submission) and re-write it from a different Point of View. The goal is to re-write the piece as an outsider looking in, from the point of view of a different character, was it originally written in 1st person? then re-write it in 3rd person. The objective is to tell the same story in a different way.

What information gets left out when you switch points of view? What does the reader know, or not know, in this new way of telling the story?

  • All entries should be a minimum of 500 words.
  • Submissions should be sent in .pdf with the original text either written or referenced before your re-write so that I am able to read it.
  • Original author is to be credited in your submission.
  • All entries will be graded utilizing the Voice's Fiction Grading Rubric.

But above all, have fun and really put some thought into your entries. Explore your imaginations and produce an interesting piece. Remember, this is an exercise so feel free to think outside of the box.
