A picture can hold a thousand words, but we believe abstract art to be the mind’s eye into one’s imagination. You don’t just get a paragraph: you see right into the deepest core of one’s soul. Each brush stroke and each color you choose can reflect how you're feeling and how you're focused. Abstract art is obviously extremely unique from realism because the subject isn’t just an image of a room, avatar, or a flower; it’s a glimpse of what’s going on in the artist’s head.

Abstract art can be utilized and performed by literally anyone.

You don’t need any particular form of experience or knowledge to express yourself through abstract art.

Because you are not necessarily attempting to capture any particular likeness in abstract art, true freedom can be enjoyed. Don't be afraid to step out and try something new while you draw, paint, sketch, etc. Through this series, you will be prompted to create a piece of abstract art based on a new theme every two weeks . Express what these themes look like to you personally. You can do this through watercolors, acrylics, sketching, sketchbook, markers, whatever medium you wish.

Grading

• Each competition will be graded using the Herald Graphics Rubric
• Each competition will award points towards the container; 1st place: 4 points, 2nd place: 3 points, 3rd place: 1 point, every other placement/participant: 1 point.
• Ties for the container will be broken by amount of competitions entered, further broken by amount of highest placements

Submissions

• Entries must be done through the site in common image formats (.JPEG or .PNG, .JPG, etc.)
• Feel free to include an explanation of your art. (this is not required)
