Competition: Tis the Season

Finished
Tis the Season

Write a poem under one of the themes of the season:

  • Helping your friends

  • Winter

  • Feast of the Winterstar

Submit your poem either in the text box, or as a PDF. Google Docs will be DQ'ed and if I can't easily open and read your submission you will not be eligible for placement.

Haikus will be participation only, as I don’t want to potentially be comparing a tiny haiku against a entire sonnet.

Specify what format of poem you are using in the submission, no AI, and of course if its not PG-13, hide that submission!

Judgement will be based generally around the Fiction Rubric, with Spelling/Grammar also taking into consideration how well your poem sticks to its own rules/structure.

Crisp and fallen is the snow,
That blankets now the quiet earth,
Our outside labours were ennow,
And now we may return to hearth,

By fireside that warms and wends,
It's flick'ring light throughout our home,
And Wassail meals with dearest friends,
Who once far flung to our table roam,

The stillness of the winter frost,
Belies the warmth by fire's side
While outside the snow by wind is tossed,
Revelry and friends live on inside.

While world is stilled by outside cold,
We toast in friendship new and old.

Ode To Winter (Irregular Ode)

The season of winter has come upon us
The air filled with mist and frigid cold
The chilling wind leads many to fuss
Soaking deeper into our bones as we grow old

The wondrous season brings gleaming snow
Its flakes descend from ever distant skies
The children dance around with faces aglow
That sight always makes my spirits rise

Does the season of winter bring a feeling of joy?
For some the weather seems to just annoy
We curl around the fireplace to absorb its heat
For me the season can’t simply be beat

Frost-coated scarecrow creaking in the cold,
Crows caw-crying over cropless rows,
Swine seeking shelter under snowy boughs,
Winter weather snuggles soothe the soul.
