Expectation told him to scream. Fear told him to run.

Reality merely showed him that, in a way, it was beautiful.

Metal screeched as it bubbled and expanded, multiple areas cracking and splitting open. Glass cracked and exploded outwards, shattering into billions of pieces, never to all be in the same place ever again.

The heat released finally reached him, the searing sensation washing over his body, utterly destroying any semblance of cold or wetness in the air around him. Even his nostrils and throat drying as he sucked in a painful breath, all he could smell or taste was the heat, ash and dust.

All of his senses were overwhelmed, staring up at the expansion of silver and red in the sky, quickly taking up his entire view, his entire being, for a brief moment in time that felt like forever.

Never before had he understood the word awe so thoroughly and completely, to feel dread and admiration in equal yet completely overwhelming amounts.

His one time seeing an exploding vessel with his own eyes, right in front of him, and it would have been the most perfect memory, if only it wasn’t his ship that had exploded.
