For his contribution to the Brotherhood while in service to the Shadow Academy Overlord Malik Sadow has excelled at the instruction of the Sith Order and the Brotherhood as a whole. First let us examine what the Ruby Scepter is awarded for.

"Achievement and/or contributions in the area of instruction, invention, and mentorship to one's Clan or Order."

Malik has more then meet each and every part of this description while being the Instructor on no less then Four Shadow Academy exams, which is more then, any other member. His instruction and grading have been flawless and thru his work Malik has helped shape the minds of not only His Clan, but also His Order, and the Entire Brotherhood. I have never seen an EP with more dedication the Malik nor have I seen anyone that more lives up to the ideals of what the Ruby Scepter symbolizes.

Primary reason

In the past three months the Antei Combat Centre has seen improvements, adjustments and renovations that have set the stage for a better experience for the membership. However, the Centre's walls have stood for far longer than that; and in that time the Centre has seen the presence of a single individual, DA James Lucius Entar Arconae. The first 'public draft' of this entity was the Krath Combat Centre, birthed from a series of items, of similar format, that began somewhere in the old days of Arcona. Despite the grand history behind his tenure, I'd like to focus on the passed three months, my time as Combat Master.

Three months in the Dark Brotherhood can be a lifetime for a member and especially for a project. The club doesn't seem bound by a day as it may pertain to a 24 hour period, but the duration at which ideas are born, developed and brought to fruition. In the passed three months, the Adept has gone far above what I had anticipated (considering his predisposition to the 'rebirth' project) and I'd like to focus on three specific items:

Consider the ACC's Compendium, for example. What began as a ten chapter gaggle of information, ambiguous directions and rules has been transformed into a fourteen chapter work; clear in its established guidelines and packed with helpful information that can guide any Initiate, should they chose to use it. Obviously someone had to write it, but that task would be completely worthless without someone to code it and upload it and fix problems that arise - that's where James came in. As you may see through the course of this recommendation, he is more than a 'web monkey', but a willing instructor and brilliant in the art of compromise. Many steps through the compendium required slight adjustments to the rules, some could not be accomplished due to the present database, while others just needed a confident set of eyes. James could've easily been a 'yes' man and just loaded what I asked him to, or refused altogether. Instead, he directed my hand with poignant explanations of why things had to be a certain way (knowing that I am not a 'coder'), and offered 'options' instead of ultimatums. I have a far greater understanding than I had, simply because of the way he was able to see my shortfalls, come down to my level to explain them and flawlessly interpret my 'Dalthid-speak' as it applied to the terminology.

Moving ahead to the Championship Ladder, it wouldn't have gotten off the ground without James's assistance. A series of four ladders to determine four Champions who will attempt to attain the Supreme Champion title. It is a grand idea, and one that I was extremely excited about. I have been on staff in the Centre for quite some time, but was still green in the 'mechanics' of how to run a ladder. I asked around for some input, but all fingers pointed to James, as I knew they would. Again, his diplomatic nature shined through. Clearly explaining the procedures I should follow, the do's and don'ts that I was completely oblivious to and 'how' it would run from beginning to end. Though it must've been frustrating for him, not once did I get a hint of that in his communication. No matter how busy he seemed, he was prompt and clear with his responses and seemed to make sure that I knew exactly what he was talking about. I had intended to run the initial ladder with quite a lot of participation, but it was the Adept who weighed the pro's and con's for me, objectively, and let me choose. He went so far as to instruct me how to load NPC's, even though he knew I didn't want them, because he had enough foresight to see that I might be stuck in what I had wanted to do. The ability to see ahead, determine potential problems and offer solutions before they are needed is a skill that James possesses, and uses, with tact and compassion.

Finally, as a climax to this recommendation, ACCLive! Originally born with good intentions, ACCLive! never really saw the light of day. It was difficult to manage when compared to 'normal' battles and seemed thrown together to appease a specific need. The next 'version' was streamlined and redeveloped to use mIRC as a tool instead of the means to an end. However, it was still on the 'sensitive side of ease of use; and from testing to release, still had its ups and downs for the ACC staff. Then James came along, again. Not prodded, asked or even assigned to, the Adept took it upon himself to develop the latest asset to the Centre: A completely automated version of the ACCLive! script. Why is that such a big deal? Simple: The new program interfaces with the database, removing 90% of the previous tasks that were manual and making them fully automated. Until this program, it would take (on average) fifteen minutes just to set up a battle - with this new program, about two. Before this program, the staff member running the battle had to refresh his screen to see if the combatant had posted - now, being connected to the database, it is done automatically. Previously, one had to 'sit and watch' the battle because the timers had to be 'commanded' manually - now, it is completely automatic; freeing up staff members to run multiple battles at a time without the fear of forgetting commands to waiting fighters. The new program also posts intro's for the official and even tags the 'Judge Stats' with the points that the staff members get for administrating battles. I foresee this program as being THE biggest innovation to the ACCLive! system, ever - and forever...and he did it on his own, completely based on his own initiative.

We know that DA James Lucius Entar Arconae is an asset to the Brotherhood, that will always go without saying. However, he is an asset to new leadership as well. Proven by his diplomacy, quality of effort, quality of work, initiative and mentoring ability, James is an asset to more than merely Brotherhood, but the 'individuals' that make up its membership. Consider what the Ruby Scepter is awarded for: "Achievement and/or contributions in the area of instruction, invention, and mentorship to one's Clan or Order" I present to you that James has met and exceeded those requirements, repeatedly. I also submit that his efforts in the Combat Centre abound the Krath, Sith and Obelisk and are far more than Arcona, Talryan, Satal Keto, Exar Kun, Terentum, Scholae Palatinae and Naga Sadow as the Centre abounds those 'classifications' by it's existence. So, if you will allow me, I'd like to recommend DA James Lucius Entar Arconae for the Ruby Scepter (RS) along with my humble thanks for his service and dedication.

I don't know what else there is to say about our KHP. Alanna has been a rock as KHP -- she is strong and steady. She always has things done when asked, she always has the highest quality work and is always asking to help with more. I wish we could have ten clones of Alanna to assist the DB. If anything, we can all learn lessons from her in how to be a great leader.

Congratulations, Alanna, and thanks.

Greetings,

It's a sad day when a long-time veteran of the Dark COuncil steps down, especially one who has added so much to our club as Corran. If you didn't know, Corran Force is the main reason why we exist separate from the EH today. CoFo was hosting the website at the time of the split and he brought it with us. This enabled us to cripple the EHDB while taking our members and going. If not for CoFo we would have no database, no website, no club. So what do you say to a person that has given so much to us? Here and now we can only say our thanks, wish him the best with his child and be thankful for his continued presence in the club.

As a parting gift, I want to complete Corran's collection of the main sacramental awards by giving him a Ruby Scepter. This award is in honor of his three years of service, his constant activity, and for just being a damn good member.

CoFo -- we'll miss you on the DC. Thank you for everything.

Kir is one of the longest serving Consuls out there, he has put so much energy into Clan Taldryan and still has time to be the Magistrate to the Grand Master, Praetor to the Deputy Grand Master, an Eclectic Pedagog for the SA and the Left Hand of Justice. Clan Taldryan is always seen near or on the top of competitions because the members see how energized Kir is and it energizes them. Thusly he deserves the Ruby Scepter since he has done all that it entails.

Primary reason

<B>From Consul Kir Taldrya Katarn: </B><BR> Sharad Taldrya Hett recently resigned from his position as Proconsul of Clan Taldryan. Although I generally dislike retirement awards, I think this is a very special case and therefore I am writing this recommendation with the other leaders of Taldryan. Sharad has been in the Brotherhood for over four years. He spent all four of those years as a loyal member and leader of Taldryan. Fresh out of the Shadow Academy, Sharad joined Taldryan and immediately became one of its most active members. He soon became the AED of Dinaari, first of the many leadership positions he would hold. Throughout his years in Taldryan he would serve excellently as AED, QUA, and PCON. He spent more than 2 years in leadership positions in Taldryan, mostly as PCON. While in these positions he competed in and created countless competitions, built numerous websites for competitions, houses, and has built/maintained the Taldryan website for a very long time. The Taldryan website is the best Clan site in the Brotherhood, offering tons of useful information and features for Tal members. In this manner he demonstrated unparalleled invention in the Clan. Now you might be thinking that invention alone does not warrant a Ruby Scepter, but I’m not finished. Another important part is instruction. During his time in Taldryan Sharad has always been one of the Clan’s most talented multiplayers. In a continuing effort to better his Clan, he has constantly taught these skills to uncounted numbers of young Tal members. He has also taught many members (most recently ben) how to create websites in everything from HTML to PHP. This covers the area of instruction! Last of all, we come to mentorship. Throughout his time in the Clan he has personally taken it upon himself to mentor many of our most loyal members. A short list would include Swiper (who he also recruited, now a long term member and former QUA), Shadow (who he kept from quitting the DB after 1 week, now a very successful QUA), and me (when I returned to the DB, helped make me the CON I am today). I could go on and on about Sharad, but let me just say that other than the year he spent as OHC (one of the most successful in DB history), Sharad has dedicated most of his time to bettering Taldryan. Be it through instruction, invention, mentorship, loyalty, or countless other qualities he brings to the table, Sharad can honestly be called one of the Taldryan’s most successful members (and considering the company that puts him in, it’s a great compliment). Ruby Scepters are rarely given out, and I feel that Sharad is one of the few members who truly deserves one. The description reads, “Given for achievement and/or contributions in the area of instruction, invention, and mentorship to one's Clan or Order.” If there was any member in Taldryan who fits this description, it has been Sharad for years. Now that he’s done with school and ready to move into that scary “real world” place where people work, it is understandable that he won’t have the time to serve much with us anymore. I wish you good luck you’re your wife, family, and friends, and I hope this quaint fictional representation of our appreciation of your service is enough. Congratulations Sharad! ~CON Kir Taldrya Katarn<P>

<B>From Quaestor Shadow Taldrya: </B><BR> So it's finally happened... after almost, if not more than four years in the Dark Brotherhood, more than three of which I have served under him, Sharad Hett is retiring more or less once and for all. While I've never really been a fan of the "Quitting = Medal" thing, Shar is definitely deserving of more than what he earned during his time in the DB. Since shortly after I joined Sharad has always been my teacher within the DB. He was the first to take the time to teach me how to play JK, even how to set up my keyboard and mouse to play better (joysticks are teh suck) After that he taught me about leadership. I was only a Jedi Hunter when he first took the reigns of OHC and left me in charge with House Dinaari. To say I had no idea what I was doing would be a huge understatement. But, he helped. He kept me going my giving me advice and helping me with my ideas. It's also his fault I got caught up in the politics of the DB and EH :P M:OHC was the first step to my learning the harsh and mostly annoying ways of the DC, no offense guys, and of the EH CS. Was that ever not fun :P But I wasn't the only one Shar taught. At the very least everyone in Dinaari has had something to learn from him and his actions. At the very most he touched most of the Obelisk Order at one point. He offered an almost endless amount of ideas and competitions that were pivotal at the time when Jedi Knight was all but dying and Outcast was still some time away. My most vivid memory would be the competition he ran - Feel the Force. It was probably one of the best run Rites of Supremacy I have ever been a part of. And the activity was astounding. There were at least 10 people with more than 1000 points and so many others that were in the high hundreds. And that was still with just Jedi Knight when the entire Order was near extinct. That accomplishment alone was worth more than anything he got from being OHC. Hell, the only thing he got out of OHC was a re-promotion to the rank of Warlord after Chi had him HCIed. For his time these past 9 months or so as Proconsul, Shar has been a driving force. Together with Kir they were probably the most active CON/PCON team seen in the last 4 years. He created and maintained both the Dinaari and Taldryan websites. Always updating and changing things to make both sites better for the members to use. He helped push all of Taldryan during any competition, from the lowly MP nights to the Great Jedi War. All with the same drive and determination that most can't comprehend. Even with all that, Sharad was a good guy and a good friend. Lately I've been looking through my ancient logs and seeing the nights we'd stay up in #dinaari with a few others and just talk and joke til like 3am. Those are probably my fondest memories of the last 4 years of my life. The times spent hanging out in #dinaari. It's a hard thing to say goodbye too and it's been a long time since there's been such a night. I've made friends with a lot of people in the DB but none that could keep up with me and surpass me with insults and jokes and comments. Any time he's on IRC he keeps the conversations going and without that the DB is just nothing. Shar, for all this and more I hope you get this medal. Though it's just a fictional representation of all you've done, it's the best we can do. I know you've moved on with real life, and your school and wife... and I wish you the best.<P>

<B>From Aedile Benevolent Whiner: </B><BR> In the time I've spent in the DB, Sharad has constantly been a pillar of Taldryan, and the DB as a whole. In his time as our PCON, Sharad has time and time again stepped up to ensure Taldryan is the best it can be. He created both Taldryan's and Dinaari's websites by himself, a task few could match. He cares for all the members he is responsible for, using his experience to guide them through the confusing parts of a young member’s career. I can attest to this personally. Sharad was the very first DB member that spoke to me through email (even clearing up a very early confusion that Dinaari was indeed part of Taldryan). More recently, it was through his work on the Dinaari website that I learned PHP, a skill that not only helps me in my DB duties, but one I may use later in my own personal life. As well, he introduced me to Jedi Knight, a game that utterly confused me the moment I got it. It is a testament to Sharad that you don't hear about the work he does for other members. I'm positive that if you spoke to any member in Taldryan about Sharad, you'd hear of a time when he has helped them in some way, as he has helped me. Sharad has made many contributions to the instruction of our clan. Sharad has provided his own inventiveness as a way to better our clan. Sharad has made himself a mentor to his clan. This is the least I can do to thank him for all his work. Thank you Shar.<P>

<B>From Quaestor Dark Sabre: </B><BR> Sharad has always been a pillar of activity, but not only is he one of the most active competing and MP'ing leaders, but he's one of learning as well. He's often taught different skills to people in the Clan; from the simple teaching of IRC basics and the more complicated graphics and website instruction, he's always helped out and taught something whenever he could. He also made layouts for websites, coded the entire Taldryan site which is unique to the other Clan sites and mentored several people (including myself) to become leaders. I've always considered Sharad to be important not just to Taldryan, but to the Brotherhood. It's the people like him that have made the Brotherhood what it is today.<P>

<B>From Aedile Nexusmage:</B><BR> Sharad was the first person in the DB that I really found some common ground with, and the first I noticed might be pretty cool. When I talk with him on IRC, he always has a good sense of humor and makes even the most awkward situation comfortable. He has always seemed to just be there for each and every member, working hard to make sure they feel welcome and helping them in any situation. He spent countless hours creating and perfecting the Taldryan website, and he is always among the first line of members to help Taldryan in every competition or activity that would aid it. I believe that ever since Sharad has been here, he has been at the very heart of Taldryan; helping it to grow and continuing it to be such a dominate force in the Brotherhood. He's a great member, an independent thinker, an outgoing and compassionate leader, fiercely loyal, a good friend, and he's even kind of sometimes a good person; I believe this is the very least we can do to show our respect for someone with such dedication, loyalty, and love for this clan, and the Brotherhood.

<P>In my time in the ACC (both as a Trainer and as the Combat Master) one member has shined above all others. He has been consistently active in the training and mentoring of initiates, as well as any others who wished to improve their skills. He has dedicated more time to the ACC, and in more productive ways, by far than any other member, constantly striving to do his best for the Antei Combat Centre. As Sr. Trainer he has helped turn the ACC staff into a group of active individuals who know their job and, most of the time, relish the chance to do it. He has fostered activity on a level I have never seen in a member, and for that alone he deserves this award.</P> <P> In addition, he has revamped (practically recreated from the ground-up) the ACCLive system into a viable work which can actually be fit into gaming nights - no small feat - and has been indispensable in the current project to rewrite the Compendium. For this, and a number of both smaller and larger contributions which are far too numerous to name, I hereby recommend that Krath Prontifex Dalthid be awarded the Ruby Scepter.</P>

For some time now, Oberst has been one of the more instrumental members in making Tarentum the tightly-knit organization that it is. He methods haven't always been the easiest on the Clan members, at times, but Oberst is a harsh leader, and expects a lot out of people. He pushes them to limits that they couldn't reach without the irritation behind them, forcing them to give even that tiny bit more; this can even be seen in his motivation of myself, and my Proconsul, Rekio Corsair, in our time of leadership.

Oberst is a tie to the Clan's past, and he is someone who can help members understand, and comprehend past glories, and revel in their own abilities, to garner their own glories. He's helped several people in their rise in rank, and position. Most notable among them has been Spears, who is a testament to Oberst's ability to mentor others. Another is Welshman, who Oberst and Lenzar took on as Roll Master, to help initiate him into a position of leadership.

Another duo is Rekio and myself; I can honestly say that our abilities as good leaders have derived from him, to a great extent. Oberst has served in a good number of leadership positions, and has allowed us to take from his knowledge, and tactics. Over the past year and a half, since Oberst's return to the Brotherhood, and Tarentum, I can truly say, his presence has strengthened us all, even as our presence has changed him (even if only a bit). He's of tremendous value to the Clan, to the Sith Order, and to me as a friend.

As I near the stage where I will be forced to withdraw from Tarentum, to care for the Sith Order, I know that Tarentum will be led forward to even greater glory, with examples such as he at the head.
