Other people will discuss Korvis’ (Vynn Salm’s) leadership and its impact on the club, but I’ll just say this: even though the man has retired, he continues to display those same qualities. Korvis has served as a Magistrate in my office for nearly two years now. During that time he has helped run two Life Day Celebration Series competitions with the rest of the staff (one since his most recent recognition as a member of my staff), always trying to provide an interesting and fun experience - even as he was gearing down to retire from Consul. He’s remained committed and consistent throughout his tenure with the Regent Staff, throwing his hands into any work that comes his way and bringing his own ideas to the table and putting in the work for it to see completion.

Our main priority since his last recognition has been the Crafting System. Countless hours of discussion pre-launch and post-launch, Korvis was part of the team effort to see our test of the system through, contributing on discussions for both lightsabers and corvettes to determine how they would work in their respective corners, while participating personally in the development of Corvettes by providing ideas for fifteen crafting materials (writing descriptions for four of them), doing a substantial quality control check with Teebu on all lightsabers and corvette crafting materials (forty-five separate pages) correcting a couple errors, before going through the process of stocking all of the lightsaber crafting materials, corvette crafting materials, and member corvette upgrades to the stores. On paper, it doesn’t sound like a lot of work, but in reality this is all stuff that we do manually using a bunch of spreadsheets and the website, and we’ll work through maybe five to ten different ideas before we settle on a path that might be altered.

In addition to his work on the crafting system, Korvis has been leading the charge on bringing a long-requested type of land vehicle to possessions, completing the entire development for seventeen different pod-racer prototypes that are just awaiting final pricing and review. Korvis recognized the members’ desires and without prompting put in that work himself to research and develop this impending release like he usually does. The man will rewatch seasons of SW media with a pen and paper to record what he can and bring that to the members, and his dedication to improving this club as a whole and leading from the front lines is consistently displayed even through his work as a Magistrate.

For his leadership as a member, countless hours of work as a Magistrate, and consistent devotion to the Brotherhood, I am happy to recommend Vynn Salm for a Ruby Scepter.

KORVIS GETS AN AWARDIS. I coined that.

Additional reasons

Will the real Slim Korvis please stand up?

Korvis was Consul for another three months during this award period that came on the heels of EL1 and I can say with certainty that if anything, his award and promotion lit a fire under him because he did not rest on his laurels. I had a lot of onboarding needed as his Pcon due to the fact that I was coming from a different clan. He worked with me on a regular basis for sometimes hours at a time to get me up to speed on just about everything possible: fictional direction, clan structure, the massive amount of documents, wikis, lore, and all the permissions stuff that we don't often think about as work.

Korvis had most of the Great Hunt clan event already planned well ahead of time, which was kind of mind-blowing to me, so it was ready to rock with full fiction and everything on the day it was due to launch. I was assisting him in running it but had a family emergency and instantly he was there to cover for me, no questions asked. The clan event went flawlessly with 11 competitions and 14 participants, which was just under half of the clan, with some the retirees and founders coming out of the woodwork to participate.

Korvis also retired from Consul during this period but that didn’t stop him from still running even more competitions and participating in our clan comps. Even in retirement he has been highly active in both warchat and public, helping to keep discussions and activity going when most of us are in slumberland. He has also been serving as great support for me as I settled into his chair - not boots, because he was a giant 14ft Rattataki whose boots I could never fill. Despite no longer having giant mouse ears, he always has one ready and advice when needed. Not all of us get to have our predecessor nearby so I am grateful and it has been a tremendous comfort and boon.

<Obligatory stats>

For the major bling-bling, Slim Korvis has earned the clan 442990 credits because he organized 46 competitions, coorganized 2, participated in 86, 9 gaming, 15 fiction, 2 courses, 4 news posts with 44! comments. Earned 1 Diamond star, 4 ruby, 4 amethyst, 10 sapphire, 5 emerald, 3 topaz, 1 quartz, 6 cluster of fire, 13 ice, 43 earth, 15 graphite, and 21 seals of transcendence for his war participation. Korvis obtained the special scroll of Foundation and of the Master for his student Legion reaching the rank of JM4.

</Obligatory stats>

Thank you for all of your community and clan efforts and ultimately, just being you.

Last summer, Korvis told me that he planned to step down from VizCON following the GJW. However when the time came he opted to stay on a few more months to avoid a leadership vacuum at the top of the clan after his former PCON left to take over COU. During his final months, Korvis could have rested on his laurels, but he didn't: he organized a steady course of competitions for Vizsla, most notably Great Hunt VII. Most importantly, he used that time to help prepare his summit for a leadership transition, taking on Socks as PCON and Ikarri as M:CON.

Korvis, you've done a lot for this club and for Vizsla in particular. Congrats!

Lord Dacien Victae, 2024-04-12 12:51:25 UTC

As a serious reason to this inquiry, Korvis (He will only ever have the one name) has been a great addition to the Chamber of Justice. Within days of accepting the role he was effectively managing the 'bread-and-butter' activity of the Chamber - reaching out to suspected clones and helping to guide these members to identify themselves or have their dossiers made accessible.

He is a natural investigator and his attention to detail was critical in his first case - also within weeks of joining the Chamber. He takes his role seriously and ensured to triple check all his findings while finding a balance of finding justice without being overly punitive in his approach.

I'm extremely grateful that he's joined my staff and look forward to continuing to work with him (hopefully on mundane things) for the remainder of the year.

Wally has continued to drive the RP train forward with remarkable success. During the first year of the Envoy Society's operation, more than two million words were written across nearly 200 completed RPs by over 150 different members. Wally was not personally involved in most of those RPs, and a great deal of credit is due to his staff and to the members and leaders of our seven clans for RP's incredible success, but it's safe to say that Wally has used his role to encourage widespread adoption of RP and to provide tools and advice to those interested in trying it. Without his contributions, I'm confident that RP would not be as successful as it has become.

In addition to his Exarch work (which also included running a DB-wide survey and working to implement some tweaks to Golden Envoy Mark awarding in response to it), Wally has helped out as my magistrate most significantly by drafting the One-Year XP Survey.

Lord Dacien Victae, 2024-04-01 13:47:23 UTC
Additional reasons

Wally is a member that seems to find the word retirement an insult or maybe a challenge. Probably a challenge. When I joined the brotherhood, he was my Battleteam Leader. As I moved up, he went off to go help found the Exarch society and then later run it himself, while never losing his status as a powerhouse of activity. All while having been in so many positions in the club historically it's ridiculous. This will be his fifth purple stabby.

To this day, Wally is a well of information, advice and a safe space to scream into. He supported myself and Arcona as a whole this January, both in comforting, soundboarding and serious commentary on how to handle the times. This has been through both Brotherhood channels as well as through dms and hasn't stopped. He also continued to invest in Arcona's story line, proposing ideas to me and Zuji recently to help buff out smaller details of lore and give our members more to chew on. This is hours of his time dedicated to the very being of the clan itself.

And, gathering numbers, this has all been while: Participating in 27 competitions, earning 2 Crescents with Sapphire Stars, 2 with Emerald and funky Topaz. He has also completed an ACC battle, 1 regular fiction activity, participated in 5 roleplays and mastered 4 for a total of 82 Clusters of Ice. 3 News posts, 2 Clusters of Graphite, a Dark Side Scroll, 2 Scrolls of Foundation and 23 Seals of Transcendence. Y'know, casually. All while being the Exarch and a Magistrate to the Grand Master. Obligatory nerd call out here.

It feels good to get to write you a recommendation this time Wally, and I can't wait until I inevitably need to do so again. Give this one to Zig for me so she and Zuza can match!

Envoy Zuza Lottson, 2024-03-29 19:04:12 UTC

Wally, without hesitation, has been very helpful when I took the position as QUA.

He spent a few hours out of his time during the day to share a screen with me and showed me the ways of wikipedia before the changes arrive. Much to our amusement, they had arrived three days after Wally taught me.

Recently, I had to step away for a bit and without even needing to ask or beg, Wally helped by pulling three shy Qel-Droma members into a rp that's been ongoing since January. He also made sure they are getting opportunity in the same roleplay. Last I checked in, they were enjoying themselves and I thank Wally for massively helping me out. He deserves that Ruby Scepter! Well done!

Aiden Lee Deshra, formerly and perhaps better known as Rylance, has been a tremendous asset to the Fist staff and gaming community since rejoining the Fist Office a year ago. As a Magistrate his direct responsibility is helping take care of the queue, a duty for which Aiden has proven to be the most reliable and productive in the Fist office. In this current term Aiden has provided detailed review and timely processing for 533 gaming submissions directly impacting 113 unique members. To put that figure in perspective Aiden personally processed 37% of all gaming submissions during that time period.

Beyond his administrative duties with the queue Aiden has participated in every staff discussion and policy decision over the past year. He's been involved in and provided critical input to the development of 5 new platform proposals, a major policy change for Casual Queue (Cards Against Humanity Special Rule), and the overhaul of the GMRG society rewards and progression. His experience on staff and perspective as an active member of the gaming community has been crucial in every policy decision made this term.

On behalf of the gaming community thank you for your steadfast and quiet work behind the scenes to help make the gaming experience better for all members.

Rhylance, Eleceos, Eevie, Ben, Aiden. I think I missed out on a name lottery at some point but Aiden has been active enough for all of them. So, let's roll on with the numbers.

Aiden has organised 1 competition and participated in 203, 36 of which were containers. In doing so, he earned a total of pulls up calculator 165 Crescents. That is a 81% percentage of placement. 13 Diamond, 45 Ruby, 59 Amethyst, 39 Sapphire and 9 Emerald. I just want to emphasise how blinking crazy that is! And this is while not only doing his work for the FIST office, but for the Headmaster as well. Somehow, Aiden has also had the time for 8 gaming activities and 4 fiction activities, bringing in 19 clusters of Ice, 19 Clusters of earth, alongside 9 Clusters of Graphite. This has earned a staggering 1411840 credits for Clan Arcona.

In 3 months. I do have to emphasise all of this is in that short of a time period.

Aiden has also been working with our new kids in Arcona, enthusiastic to be there for the newest members of the clan even and is a stalwhart pillar of our community. He is here every day, in discussions both about real life events and club events. He has reached out to me to offer guidance and while I've yet to call in on that I can be confident that if I ever need to, he'd would be there as best as he could. As strange as it feels to do this, as he was Proconsul when I joined merely three years ago, I am more than happy to recommend Aiden his second Ruby Scepter.

Happy bonking!

While this is hardly the first sac I've recommended, this is the first where I didn't know the member. But I have heard the name of Warp throughout the community and in two clans over the last decade. He is highly spoken of by many not just for gaming activity but as a spirited member throughout the club. While I will let others speak of him personally from his DB roles I am more than happy to present this award for things long overdue and then some.

The amount of Medal XP Warp has is monumental. It is impossible to split and be accurate to 41000+ XP as nearly all was before the system was invented and the 16 gaming activities with 7 competitions doesn't even scratch the surface of where it all came from. What I can say is that Vizsla is thrilled to see him on the roster again and the Brotherhood benefits just from his presence here. I hope to see that XP skyrocket again. Welcome back!

Do Work! If you were in Vizsla during Warp's time as Quaestor then you heard those two words repeatedly. He said it often, but he didn't just say it. Warp did work. In particular I want to focus on the time I was Proconsul. For a good portion of that time there was no Consul. Warp became my right hand man in handling the day to day running of the clan. From showing me how to work the admin system and learning the ropes as PCON he was invaluable. He helped me learn to organize competitions and even basic markdown coding for comps and reports. His efforts during this time, and really a lot of his time as Quaestor were never really properly awarded. That was my bad as he was forced to go rogue due to real life and I let it fall by the wayside. As far as activity I have no better way to explain how active he was particularly on the gaming front than this. Turel just passed Warp for the all time lead in Clusters of Fire. It took two and a half years of Warp being rogue for second place to catch him. But Warp did more than just play games. He taught others how to play the games and more importantly how to submit the scores and games to the website. I know this because he taught me. For most people that doesn't seem like much but for new, or in my case, returning members that was much needed.

Do Work! I modeled my time as Consul in part on Warps example of doing what needed to be done when it needed to be done. He never pawned his responsibility off on others. He was always a well respected member of the summit who's voice and ideas carried weight. He shaped Vizsla in a lot of ways particularly the work ethic members both under his oversight and above him developed. Congrats Warp!

Vynn Salm, 2024-02-06 21:07:54 UTC

I'll keep this short and to the point. I have served in two Clans with Warp and observed that he sets an example for everyone in the DJB, demonstrating a commitment to promoting activity for both himself and others. Even during his time in Rogues, he consistently joined voice chats and participated in gaming with Club members, remaining actively involved.

Vynn has already spoken on it, but Warp serves his Clan dutifully with an almost unmatched zeal when at his most active.

It's an honor to be able to provide this recommendation.

Thank you, Warp.

warp
verb
1.
become or cause to become bent or twisted out of shape, typically as a result of the effects of heat or dampness.

I think the definition of his name suits this recc well because Warp just took the XP system and bent it to hell and back. He has earned this Ruby Scepter from XP alone which is completely nuts. And there's even more on top of it, so much activity that I can't even begin to split it up. Welcome back to the Brotherhood, and welcome to the new XP system, paying you for a lot of time spent with us and hopefully a lot more!

Since Ruka- Atriyu- Atty's last medal they have been a powerhouse of activity, friendship, and of course rainbows. Organising/Co-organising a total of 27 competitions didn't release her from performing in them. Across 89 (104 w/ Containers) competitions Atty crushed out 30 crescents, earning a minimum of one of each kind to just flex that catch 'em all energy. Not only that but this includes our more recent Vendetta where everyones favourite Mirakula bagged a Gold and a Bronze Nova across 21 War comps as shown in her 21 Seals of Transendence. She also participated in 5 ACC matches and 55 other fiction activities for a total of 539 Clusters of Ice. I'd just like to put that into more understandable numbers. That is 269,500 words written, just since her last medal.

Insane.

But we all know Atty is a Priestess of the Tomes, even cracking open 27 SA courses and earning 5 degress. Not only that, but she stepped into the world of gaming, completeing 12 Gaming Activities and earning 84 Clusters of Earth. Art didn't escape Atty's pen either, 55 Clusters of Graphite dusting the path she laid for us all, including her two newest apprentices this year if evidenced by her two scrolls of foundation.

And that's just the numbers. This barely scratches the surface of what Atty was doing behind the scenes. Working tirelessly with her staff and her members to make sure that while things did get done, everyone had hydrated and taken a breather when they needed to as well. She also worked hard alongside Qy to help our newest Quaestor, Ood, get settled in and work out what was going on with Galeres' story. This was hours upon hours of conversation over the span of a few days and that's only one example of that kind of dedication Atty has shown. This is espeically prevalent in the most recent war where I along saw her in the vast majority of conversations pertaining to cheerleading, guiding and working to help each member of Arcona do their best during the war. And this isn't just within chats, this included using our mailer to encourage people on mass to look at the Voice reports by offering her own drawing skills. If you confirmed you'd read the report, you got a sketch. If you, in that email, told the chain something you'd learned from the report, it got coloured in. There was a lot of these sketches that got put out.

I don't want to speak on the war alone but I have one particular note to bring up and that is her actions in Roleplay. Not in terms of her Exarch work, but her as a member, as a participant. Large social rps are stressful for a lot of people. Whenever I am in one, and Atty is too, I always see her checking in with people. Pinging the quiet ones to make sure that they had a plot hook to enter in with so no one gets left out. And this is no matter clan they were in, her attention was for anyone to make sure that everyone around her gets a chance to have fun.

From the bottom of my heart Atty, thank you. I wouldn't have ever been able to do what I have within the club without you at my back, providing encouragement and no small amount of pillow-screaming space. In terms of your effort toward me, preparing me for my roles and supporting each endeavour, something I can only repay by doing my damnedest to make you proud.

Envoy Zuza Lottson, 2024-01-14 22:43:55 UTC
Additional reasons

Atty. I wasn't going to let this Ruby Sceptre go through without my two-cents. For all the reccs you've put through for me, and made me cry, it's my turn.

I came into the DB, absolutely confused because I had never been on a platform like this before. I didn't know where to start, or what to do, or even how to go about starting to figure out what to do. You saw me struggling and helped without anyone asking you to, held my hand as I had questions about how things worked, and listened to my frustrations. You linked me to Wikis, pointed out what courses would suit me best, cheered me on as I did my very best to make you proud. Even though this was your job as PCON, I know you would have done it either way, because that's just you.

In my near year of being here, I have seen time and time again you shepherding the new joins into their spots and helping them find their voices. When it comes to events, especially the Godkiller event we ran last year, you spend tireless hours making sure everyone has a chance to make their ideas heard. You act as a soundboard, a reference, and a guiding hand in a way I don't think I've ever seen someone act before. When someone has an idea, you are there, to see how it can fit into the narrative, how it can benefit everyone.

It is so obvious you love the Brotherhood, and Arcona, with all of your damn heart. Arcona would not be what it is without you, without our Atty, without your characters or your ideas. Without your heart.

You helped guide me in my early days of leadership, too, even though it shouldn't have been left to you. You listened to my frustrations and confusion and you helped me manage them. You outlined what I needed to do with compassion and empathy, and made sure I knew where I was going as AED. I never would have even applied, or thought of applying, if it weren't for you. And that's just you-- an inspiration to everyone you meet. You help uplift every single member of the clan, pushing them gently to be the best they can be, to reach their full potential and realize their best selves.

I would not be where I am without you Atty, in my DB career or in real life. Unfortunately, I can't equate that to XP, but it should be noted none-the-less. We are first clan because you inspire us to be. When someone thinks of Arcona, I know they think of you. Our heart, the glue that holds us together.

Atty. Abbey. Vacmi. She-who-ships. You should get a million awards for your service to the clan, for everything you've done for us. I hope this suffices, even a bit. We are proud of you. We love you. Thank you for gracing us with your presence.

Your mini-me, signing off.

Aedile Zosi'val'ria, 2024-01-16 17:26:47 UTC

I remember Atty, sorry people ancient history incoming, as a wide eyed, eager to do stuff, new member. I sat on the Arcona roster and watched her create a place for herself within our club. I watched her take her first steps into leadership as Aedile of Galeres. I watched her take up the mantle of Consul, earn herself the right to add Arconae to her name. I watched as she never once stopped thinking or acting towards making the club, and every unit she was a part of, a better place. I also watched her earn herself medal after medal, mountains upon mountains of Clusters of Ice as she seemingly never put her pen down. So it doesn’t surprise me to be asked to write a recommendation for a Ruby Sceptre for this powerhouse of activity.

Atty is the person you go to, when you want to do something but need a soundboard to make sure you’re doing it right. When you need something proofread and time is short. When you just need a chat with someone about something, important or inane.

With regards to statistics, I’ll just say that in the year since her last award, she’s more than earned this sharp implementation.

Atty, I’m kinda honored to finally be able to be a part of awarding you something for everything you do. Enjoy this piece of red cutlery. Do keep in mind, it’s handwash only, if you put it into a dishwasher it will weaken and repeat offenses could shatter it entirely.

General Ood Bnar, 2024-01-16 17:29:36 UTC

For the last year, Atty continued to play an important role in the DJB Story Group, editing every club-wide fiction released in 2023, including six chapters of the Galactic Happenings series and four GJW XVI fictions, and brainstorming plot ideas. Her work included fixing typos, suggesting rewrites for improved flow and readability, and significant discussion of plot direction, representing hours of work. As PCON, she also stepped into her CON's shoes and helped plan, run, and grade the most recent Pro Bowl event.

Lord Dacien Victae, 2024-01-16 18:14:25 UTC

Ever since joining the Exarch staff, Atyiru has been the embodiment of the RP Society in the Brotherhood. Even before we had a formal name for it. But when the time came to really make a concentrated effort to get RP adopted across the Brotherhood, Atty was standing on the front lines, ready to lead the charge. Her patience and understanding when it comes to people's trepidation around trying RP is uniquely her. Her ability to empathetically understand, learn, and quite frankly remember people’s first, second and seventh characters defies my abilities even as the former person in charge of “knowing” all the DBs characters. She was one of the first members to hit Rank 12 in the You Can Certainly Try (DM) trophy, a testament to how many RPs she’s run for others. She has also been one of the first few members to hit rank 12 in the Players Gonna Play (Player) trophy. This is a culture we’re trying to demonstrate, and hopefully get others to replicate.

As I mentioned in her most recent promotion over the past year since joining staff, Atty has: helped digest the infrastructure for how we promote and organize RPs, assisted with crafting policy and documentation for it, generated ideas, and brainstormed ways to make RP a day-to-day activity. She reviewed the backend setup of the Envoy Corps, helped with the original manual process that was needed to process these requests, and helped troubleshoot the automation we eventually landed on to make sure it worked. This still involves reviewing manually and reading over RPs to check for authenticity from the participants.

Even since her last promotion 3 months ago, Atyiru has been an anchor in a sea of growing pains that come with launching a new activity for the Brotherhood. Her experience, knowledge, and presence have helped me and the team with shaping policies as we encounter new challenges to the system. An example of this is crafting the policy around "wait" times before an RP can be submitted and minimum word count qualification for sessions. This involved compromising with members who wrote very fast, and prevented unintentionally “spam” or “meta gaming” RP activity to keep it scoped to our expectations. Things like this come up as members try new things that we didn't plan for. Scoping policy quickly and effectively is critical, and Atty helps with this. She also proofreads the things I write, making them seem more legible.

Continuing as a member of staff, Atyiru has been diligent with reading through submitted RPs, verifying them against our policy, and approving or rejecting them in a timely manner so they process on the site. She has also been involved in making sure that new RPers feel heard, engaged with, and makes an effort to learn their characters or work with them. She has co-DM'd sessions to help other DMs be more comfortable with running RP, and continues to embody the RP community as one of its most active players and organizers.

She recently added the "Shame Corner" venue to the Envoy Corps world building efforts- a venue to promote cross-clan mingling and interactions.

We're delighted to have her on staff and to continue working with her on expanding the Envoy Corps. For her community efforts, and continued presence in the RP community, I’m proud to see her recognized for all the things she does that might not show up on the assessment tool as she is always going above and beyond.

Erin started bugging me in April looking for data analytics work. I gave her access to my Google Drive full of exported data from the site’s Unit Statistics Report and explained that I had tried in the past to develop quarterly unit health reports for CONs, but that the time investment was just way too much for me to keep up with it. I never expected to hear anything more about it. But within two days, Erin got back to me with the “Brotherhood Analytics Dashboard,” a Google Sheet that could read whatever Unit Statistics Report you gave it, parse the data, and quickly break down everything I used to have to calculate manually from a big list of individual events. Since then, she’s repeatedly had to update the dashboard, both to implement new feature requests (e.g. making it able to read several reports simultaneously to track changes over time) and to keep up with her changes to the site tool that provides the underlying data. It must have taken hours to put the base sheet together, and then shorter time investments over several months as I hit her with at least five different change requests.

Beginning with Q2 2023, I started providing Yammer with an overview of the club’s overall health, and then providing each clan’s CON and PCON with specific metrics and some suggestions that I hope will make their jobs easier. I’ve received thanks from either the CON or PCON of every clan, and had follow-up conversations with several of them. I provided a similar report specific to gaming activity to our Fist for Q3 2023. Additionally, as of October 2023, Bubba is using the clan health reports as part of his assessment and awarding for CONs. To say that Erin "helped" with this is doing her a disservice. I tried doing this sort of thing at least twice before but gave up because the time investment was simply infeasible. Erin's tool cut the amount of time I have to spend on these things by seventy-five percent. Erin's work hasn't just saved me hours of time, it is the only reason I'm able to do this project in the first place.

As mentioned above, after starting work as M:SCL, Erin pushed multiple code changes to the DB site’s Unit Statistics Report to pull information that was difficult to find before. At Bubba’s request, the new members information now indicates whether each member has authenticated to our Discord server. To help me dig into historical data, Erin adjusted the output to include members by PIN (so that name changes don’t skew the data) and to include defunct units. Other changes were more broadly useful. The reports now include all promotions, not just knightings. They provide data on every RP session and every ACC match. She keeps making this thing better, and then on top of it she has to go back to the Dashboard every time and fix it to work with the new data she added to the Unit Statistics Report exports.

In addition to be my own personal mini-James for data, Erin's taken on other M:SCL work including a request I originally submitted to James. For many years, the primary recognition for grading SA exams has come through the Scroll of Foundation. SoFs are awarded based on a formula that weighs both how many exams were graded and how quickly the grader took care of them; it also changes for courses, like the Test of Wisdom, that don’t have the standard 24-hour turnaround time. I inherited a cumbersome spreadsheet to calculate SoF awards, and they were supposed to go out only twice a year. Especially after the launch of XP, SoFs became the primary way I compensated most of my staff and I wasn’t happy with this situation. Erin automated this system and the site now gives graders that tasty XP as soon as they’ve earned it. For me, this eliminated an annoying task that ate up an hour a couple times a year. For SA graders, it means they get timely compensation for their work, even if the HM is totally checked out or can’t cope with the calculations.

Any number of our members could have stepped up to help clear James' endless to-do list. Erinyes did. She's not a web developer or a Ruby programmer or a programmer at all, but she made the effort to learn and everyone else is benefitting from that. Hopefully, her example inspires a few others, but in any event she deserves our thanks.

Changes to the DB codebase essentially benefit the entire membership, as it improves the quality of the codebase and, even if the changes themselves might only benefit a subset of members, it clears up the backlog of issues which means we can get to other issues that themselves might impact other members faster.

Erinyes was more or less thrown into the DJB’s git repository, which contains a codebase of over 10 years old that has over the years become a bit of a nightmare to get started in. Not deterred by the complexity of the code and its outdated documentation, Erinyes dove in headfirst, started getting familiar with the code, and immediately set out to add improvements, starting with bringing the “getting started” documentation up to date with the current state of the code. After that, she eagerly started going down the list of open issues that were in the low-hanging-fruit category but hadn’t been picked up until now, which is in my opinion the best and most productive way to get to know a codebase better. Ranging from various improvements to the unit statistics and leadership reports, adding reporting tools for the Envoy Society and Casual Gaming, through various smaller fixes to the site’s faction and award event pages, to automating the Scroll of Foundation awarding for SA graders.

How difficult and time-consuming these changes are to make greatly depends on how fast someone navigates the codebase, how many solutions you try before you arrive at a final implementation, and whether you encounter any hiccups along the way or not. Given the state the documentation was in and the discussions we’ve had on the subject, getting a working development setup must’ve already taken hours, and those first improvements to the leadership reports must’ve taken a lot of trial and error as well, given the complexity of some of the queries.

Erinyes, thanks for all the work you do, congratulations on Ruby Scepter!

Erinyes was able to create a report that addresses the various data-points the brand new Envoy Corps needs to make sure that the system we created: a.) works and b.) continues to work. To do this, we needed to be able to see key metrics such as the breakdown of unique roleplaying activities a month (started/closed), the amount of rank-ups per month, the spread of ranks in each trophies, the amount of words written, who our top roleplayers are, and Clan-by-clan breakdowns.

These datasets were something I was trying to manually track, email-by-email, and by doing a ghetto lookup query in Discords search filter. We are now able to easily track unique participants in RP activities, and I can generate it to a specific time/date range, which helps when considering pauses in the system. This data also helps us make sure that members aren’t progressing too quickly, or too slowly, through the RP trophy ranks, creating a better overall user experience for members. Without data, we would be making guess work. But now, we have concrete data reporting and numbers to support the long term health and success of our supplemental roleplaying society.

Erin did this very quickly, and I wish we had this kind of data prior to trying to create the proposal for the Envoy Corps in the first place. Thank you for all of this work.

Erin proactively provided multiple customized data pulls for Casual Gaming Queue and supported platform data. After the war she provided a detailed document with analytics for what games were played, a week to week breakdown, and unit breakdowns providing raw numbers, percentages and useful graphs.

Leaders having not only the right data, but data in a useful format is critical to the function of any organization. Erinyes’ ongoing support for the Fist staff through customized gaming data helps us identify trends and future platforms for adoption. Furthermore, her detailed breakdown of the GJW gaming data helps me craft better vendetta activities for our members. On behalf of the gaming community thank you for your support.

Erin was engaged, discussed solutions based upon my requests as a Consul, and was able to accommodate both data and site improvements.

This information enabled me to have fact based conversations with my Summit based upon trends in the clan's performance. This led to changes in competition structure and types based upon the activities the clan members were engaging in. This also enabled me to share the metrics with the Clan (see Kamjin's Annual Reports) and saved me a ton of time pulling data to do quarterly reviews.

Erin, thanks for stepping up and being so easy to work with!

Master Kamjin "Maverick" Lap'lamiz, 2023-10-25 16:17:16 UTC

When Koda stepped down prior to the Great Jedi War for personal reasons, a large void was left open for us. It could potentially have been an extremely rough time, especially for me as a fresh Consul having been thrust into the station with the shortest of notices, and going into my first war at the helm. But, in full support of my retired Pecan, I was ready to face it head-on with as much confidence and gusto as I could manage.

Without skipping a beat, Erin offered to take the position if even temporarily to keep us at the pinnacle of our game and help me learn the ins-and-outs of GJW-time leadership. Her contributions to how it had been run in past years when she was Consul, showing me when to push the members and when to lax back some, the specific areas that the summit should focus on while also having fun and contributing themselves, all of it was absolutely invaluable and directly contributed in what we managed to accomplish as a team. And for that, I am forever grateful.

I honestly do not feel we would have been nearly as successful as we were in this war had she not been there to directly mentor and help me along my path of growth, even working together with me in contributions even when it pushed her own limits. Since joining up as my Pecan, she has made significant contributions outside of her mentoring and leadership. She has made substantial edits to over 25 Taldryan wiki pages, still working on a Taldryan Military wiki-edition rework, in addition to having worked directly with me on planning out our now underway armed forces expansion which is still being constructed. She also helped with the clean-up and pre-implementation of our upcoming storylines, helped drive activity through roleplay participation and gaming to get other members involved and excited, and the various other administrative roles expected of her.

Even when things get busy, she always faces it with enthusiasm and does everything she can to help ensure the success of Taldryan; because she truly cares. This is especially evident as, since her last recognition, she has participated in 150 gaming activities, with a staggering 1,794 Clusters of Earth and 662 Clusters of Fire, 55 various competitions with 15 crescents coming from them, of which 17 of those competitions were from the Great Jedi War which earned her first TWO Gold Novae of her career and an additional Silver Novae. She has also contributed almost 18,000 words in roleplaying across 5 sessions and an additional 2,200 across 3 different fiction with an additional 46 Clusters of Ice.

Lastly, Erin, I want to thank you directly. For everything you have done since I came to Taldryan those several years ago, up through now and what you continue to do. You are a true example of what it means to be someone who is invested in the future and survival of Taldryan. If you didn’t already have the Taldrya title, I would be recommending you in a heartbeat. Instead, since you do, I’m proud to support doing this for you.

Thank you Erin. From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of Taldryan.

Erin seemed to come out of nowhere with a slew of new improvements to the site and, as everyone else has discussed, our ability easily to track various statistics over time. One other thing that hasn't been addressed is her work on updating and unifying the old About Us and Join pages. Thanks to her, we now show prospective members a single and much clearer picture of what exactly we do here. Thanks, Erin!

Hi Howie. I know you don't want this, but I am the boss of you.

You have organized 21 comps and participated in 137 since your last medal. You wrote zero, nil, zilch, nada words of fiction, but somehow you passed five SA courses. That seems borderline Krathy.

Mostly what you've done is be a real pain in the ass, but they tell me that's what we pay you for. I didn't realize we paid you at all and it seems like a bad idea if I'm being totally honest. Anyway, you and your staff review every competition, medal, and promotion, and you're remarkably quick and consistent in all of those things. Plus you sometimes have good ideas buried in all of the yelling. My condolences.

In the seven months since his last medal, Qyreia has continued to lead Arcona through a wave of activity. The Clan has seen participation rates consistently in excess of 66% this year, including 70% in the second quarter and a very impressive GJW showing of 65%, 78%, and 54% participation in Phase 1, Phase 2, and the Event Long phase respectively. Arcona is by far the most active clan in RP activates, with more than half of the clan routinely running or participating in RPs. On top of all of this, Arcona earned yet another First Clan title with a strong finish in GJW XVI--particularly in the Event Long phase, where its high participation eclipsed every other clan. Personally, Qyreia has organized 11 comps, and participated in 31. He picked up 85 CFs, 83 CIs, 17 CEs, and 12 CGs, and came in fourth place overall in the GJW earning four novae.

Congratulations!

As her Proconsul, it's my solemn honor to speak for the Qrees (get it? GET IT Q?) and attest to the breadth of care and organization our Red Qek Consul takes with his Clan. Behind the scenes, she maintains our tightly packed planning calendar shared amidst the Summit to schedule events at every level from Battleteam to Clan and any member ones in between, navigating scheduled times for larger outside events like the Probowl and the Great Jedi War and making certain every summiter is aware of that schedule. She handles the grind of project management as she puts out calls for wiki work and instructs on the process for writing and submitting proposed changes as well as writing proposals in general for the DB space, all while juggling rigorous hiring processes for the Summit and follow up interviews with applicants. This goes hand in hand with being the Clan's liasion to the Dark Council, as she communicates updates from the DC towards the summit daily as they occur and ensures the Clan stays apprised of all Brotherhood, Clan, and House news and events with his regular reports. She claims and writes untold numbers of recommendations for Awards and Promotions, reminds of timelines and follows up on event plans and RP organization, and makes certain she's up to date and aware in order to best navigate on the Clan's behalf with newly introduced systems or changes. The nitty gritty efficiency here might not sound glamorous, but Q's methodology and diligence have kept the Clan on task and afloat through her reign, including the last seven months, and she wisely delegates to and chooses her team to entrust with daily functioning in more nebulous areas of being phone addicts with a lot of free time energetic chat communication and community engagement. She has plotted, organized, and executed several Clan events and competitions and written truly wonderful and cognizant fiction for them while plotting to connect our Clan to the macro plot, whether or not anyone reads. Q is quiet, at a glance, but only at a glance; engage them directly and you'll be engaged right back, be that conversation, fiction sharing, gaming with fellow Brethren, etc, and take a peek behind the curtain and you'll see a regularly reigned in (sorry not sorry) summit chat steered to productivity.

I know many days your very voluntary job doesn't seem very fun, Q. Especially on the days when it seems like we're taking nothing but flak from all sides, like we're not heard, or like there's no good decisions. But you still stick with it, pull your hair out, come back, and do the work. And it's not glamorous, no. But it's critical, and you have been our backbone this whole time. I just want to say thank you for that. Thank you for being here to do the often thankless administrative trudge that allows our family and our home to continue to flourish. Thank you for your iron will and unflinching morality. And thank you for being my friend.

Arcona is lucky to have you, Shadow Lord.

Proconsul and her Knight
