The HVs-2 Hypervelocity Gun is a ground-based planetary defense weapon designed for use against ships in orbit of the defended world. Manufactured by Taim and Bak, the Hypervelocity Gun electromagnetically accelerates solid slugs to orbital velocities. It can fire 120 slugs per minute, in ten second bursts. The ground installation is equipped with both ray and particle shields, providing increased defense for the cannon. However, in order to fire the cannon, the shields must be dropped for the duration of the burst.
