The BD-unit "Survivor Edition" Backpack Droid is a modified version of the BD-unit Backpack Droid. It has been fitted with additional tools and resources such as a macrobinocular "BD Vision" mode that allows a person to look through their photoreceptors and highlight targets and destinations, a stim dispenser, a thruster for hovering and quick bursts, a droid hacking matrix, and more powerful computer access and slicing link.
BD-5 has been fitted with basic waterproof seals on its joints and openings, allowing this BD-unit "Survivor Edition" Backpack Droid to be submerged in water without suffering catastrophic damage
An advanced toolkit has been integrated into BD-5, allowing it to perform sophisticated and large-scale repairs on other droids or technology.
BD-5 has been painstakingly cared for, and even upon close examination it appears as though BD-unit "Survivor Edition" Backpack Droid was freshly off the manufacturing line. Absent of any scratches, dents or even the slightest imperfections, the only thing missing is the new droid smell.
BD-5 has developed a personality around the concept of a caretaker. It has assumed the needs of its owner to be its prime directive, even such tasks that have not been requested of it. This results in BD-5 often flitting about in an attempt to meet any possible task before it is necessary, including menial tasks.
