The axially mounted cannon is an electromagnetically driven mass driver, which draws power directly from the vessel's reactor. Rapidly accelerated projectiles cause massive damage on impact, but due to the massive power draw, it takes several minutes to fully charge. It can only be fired in the direction that the vessel is pointing.
