The R2-series "Rebellion Edition" Astromech Droid is a variant of the R2-series Astromech Droid that has been heavily modified and upgraded by the Rebel Alliance in their opposition to the Galactic Empire's reign.
Riptide has developed a quirked personality, granting it an inclination towards heavy doses of sarcasm when engaged in dialogue. As a result, Riptide comes across as having issues taking direction and developed a reputation for 'snark'.
Riptide has been fitted with a built-in SCOMP link, allowing this R2-series "Rebellion Edition" Astromech Droid to slice into various types of terminals and droids.
An advanced toolkit has been integrated into Riptide, allowing it to perform sophisticated and large-scale repairs on other droids or technology.

Riptide's ports and trim have been painted bright orange while the droid's foundation has been painted jet black, leaving an orange and black stripe pattern that some have commented resembles a large predatory feline.
