The BD-unit Backpack Droid is a small bipedal droid designed to assist with research and exploration in remote and dangerous locations. It has a flat rectangular head with two photoreceptors, a small body, and two legs with clampable feet, allowing it to climb a person's body or other surfaces and traverse many different kinds of terrain . It is equipped with various tools; including a holocam and holoprojector, computer link, and a spotlight.
A sophisticated active data retrieval system has been installed in BD-unit Backpack Droid, allowing this BD-unit Backpack Droid to track the motions of Mirin Vel and provide real-time feedback on the the specifics of objects in their line of sight by visualizing them through a small holoprojector. Data provided this way is superficial, similar to that found on the HoloNet or previously loaded into BD-unit Backpack Droid's memory core.
Mirin Vel has painstakingly cared for this BD-unit Backpack Droid, and even upon close examination it appears as though BD-unit Backpack Droid was freshly off the manufacturing line. Absent of any scratches, dents or even the slightest imperfections, the only thing missing is the new droid smell.
BD-unit Backpack Droid has been modified from the standard design with experimental components, allowing this BD-unit Backpack Droid to move at an unmatched rate of speed compared to other BD-unit Backpack Droid.
BD-unit Backpack Droid has developed a personality around the concept of a caretaker. It has assumed the needs of Mirin Vel to be its prime directive, even such tasks that have not been requested of it. This results in BD-unit Backpack Droid often flitting about in an attempt to meet any possible task before it is necessary, including menial tasks.
