Standing just slightly shy of six foot tall, Nikora Rhan is a typical example of the Nautolan species. With the lithe build of an athlete, she could easily be mistaken for a duellist were it not for the aged scars and markings of a blacksmith upon her hands and forearms. Her pointed nose and broad jawline are set beneath a pair of featureless round black eyes, which contrasts with her narrow features. About the crown of her head are a series of head tentacles, pale blue in colour as with the rest of her skin and rubbery to the touch. The majority of these are kept swept back and kept away from her eyes for ease of movement. Several of these are decorated with a number of small cloth rings, each bereft of any true ornamentation or distinctive pattern.
Nikora’s life has been one of constantly starting over. First living among a nomadic group of smugglers and then patrolling the streets of Yumfla as a Jensaarai Defender, every new stage her existence has seemingly been at odds with her previous path. Combined with the late manifestation of her powers, this has forced Nikora to relearn every skill from the beginning. This experience has left Nikora far more willing to break down even the most essential elements of her life and start over in response to necessity or erasing personal shortcomings. Yet having done so many times in the past, she sometimes struggles to reconcile the lessons of past years with what the present requires of her.
Every group needs builders as much as it does destroyers, and Nikora has constantly served both roles. Gifted in the ways of mechanical repairs even with ill-suited materials and facilities, she was responsible among the Jensaarai for repairing their equipment as much as she was enforcing their laws. This has not changed since joining the Brotherhood. Between her talent with Explosives, knowledge as a Mechanic and Crafting skills, Nikora can be relied upon to perform any task from upgrading rifles to identifying enemy weaknesses in siege warfare. This has unfortunately led to Nikora regarding the world through the eyes of a builder, and she constantly judges items, weapons, and locations for inefficient designs or security failings. Even when using their shortcomings as lessons on how to improve her own creations, she is frequently infuriated when denied the opportunity to fix what she sees as critical failings.
To some the Force is a weapon, to others it is a way of life. To Nikora it is a tool. She sees her powers a means to enhance her natural abilities rather than wholly replace them. To this end, she tends to view the world in more tangible terms and seeks to use her powers to resolve more common issues in her line of work. Force Lightning might be able to fry a man’s nervous system, but it can also be used to jump-start an engine. Because of this, she tends to take a pragmatic and practical view of its existence, and has little interest in the philosophical and nebulous views on the Force. While Nikora will work with those of more fundamentalist views, her lack of respect has led to clashes that could otherwise have been avoided.
Constant overspecialisation leads to predictability. Because of this, Nikora has continually sought to broaden her skillset and never rely upon one single approach to a task. Even with her talent in engineering, she has continually sought to explore new means to approach problems from new directions or tweak previous techniques. Nikora has applied this mindset to everything in her life from the maintenance of machines to using the Force, seeking to both improve herself and avoid being predicted by possible enemies. This has come at the cost of Nikora occasionally attempting to reinvent the wheel when it comes to basic methods, often to her own cost, and even revisiting previously failed methods long after they have proven ineffective. Even if it does mean that she will rarely fall back on one single solution to a problem.
The ultimate goal in any fight is to win, nothing more and nothing else. Nikora takes a different approach: The ultimate goal of her battles is to cripple an enemy’s desire or capability to fight at all. Part of this is reflected in her choice of Niman as a fighting style and her ability to emphasise its intimidation and trickery to rapidly end fights, but it is far more evident when used in unison with her other skills. Along with employing her Crafting and Mechanical knowledge to identify and exploit flaws in enemy equipment mid-battle, Nikora utilises her skill with Explosives to disorientate and overwhelm her enemies. Due to this emphasis on neutralisation, killing is a measure reserved only for the direst of situations. This means that Nikora will often forgo early advantages which could kill an opponent if she believes they can be captured or driven away.
When it comes to a fight, some like to posture, some like to act tough, some like to dance around and go through all sorts of fancy footwork. Nikora Rhan? Nikora Rhan doesn't bother with exotic battle stances, intricate maneuvers, or super-secret tactics. Nikora Rhan, when cornered into a fight, prefers the ancient technique of a good kick to the nuts. And if that won't work, either because the enemy is a woman or has balls of steel, Nikora Rhan isn't beyond pulling a few more cheap tricks out of the bag. Granted, Nikora Rhan won't be winning any medals for nobility or any prestige for a unique fighting style or a superb maneuver, but Nikora Rhan will still be winning, the best and most dirty way she knows how.
