Batu Nix stands at an even six feet and takes every effort to appear as bland and unassuming as possible. He has short sandy blonde hair, usually messy and styled by his pillow. This joins into a dusting of stubble that frames his jaw. He has pale skin, freckled. His eyes are a grey/blue depending on the light, and are usually the first thing one notices about him. His skin is blemish free and smooth, untouched by the lines of age. He is of average height and his build, whilst not overly muscled, is still lithe and defined. He has long limbs, broad shoulders, a narrow waist and a dusting of hair over his torso.
In terms of identifying marks, he has only one: a tattoo on the back of his neck featuring a symmetrical tri-pointed design roughly the size of a datacard. He usually tries to hide it by either wearing his hair longer over the nape of his neck or by wearing clothing concealing it.
Having previously worked for the DIA, Batu is no stranger to clandestine operations sometimes expecting less than moral or honorable results from him. He is no stranger to shelving his emotions or personal beliefs to get the job done, be it shooting a man in the back, betraying someone or even having his friends and family believe he is a traitor for the ‘greater good.’ Whatever it takes to get the job done is his modus operandi.
Batu is a disgraced former DIA agent now working as a hired gun and bounty hunter. Unbeknownst to many apart from the highest echelons of Arconan leadership, Batu is actually still a sleeper agent for the DIA. Despite being willing to do his duty, he harbours a deep resentment towards the powers that be for ‘burning’ him.
Despite his age, Batu has seen a lot of the worst the galaxy has to offer and as such has a jaded view on life. He is cynical and always expects the worst in people. Slow to trust, he keeps his distance from people, fully expecting to be let down or betrayed at any point. This reticence to open up prevents him from forming close relationships easily, but protects him from emotional harm and allows him to stay pragmatic and on-task when working.
Batu fears any form of connection, as he believes love is a noose. Sooner or later, you’ll either get someone you care about hurt, killed or they’ll betray you. Best to just keep your distance. You can’t be hurt by what’s not there. As a result, he is cool, withdrawn and laconic in most interactions, and it would take something truly special to thaw him.
Knowing one’s surroundings is key to surviving in Batu’s opinion. He will almost obsessively commit his surroundings to memory, often preparing to intimately know the locale, studying all possible points of ingress and egress, potential choke or ambush points, the reliability of the power grid, weather factors… Preparation is key, and Batu almost habitually makes it a priority to know everything he can about the operational theatre before he enters it if at all possible. Conversely, he struggles to act as fluidly or swiftly when he doesn't have the lay of the land and struggles to adapt.
Batu is never one to reveal the hand he’s holding. He will play his cards close to his chest at all times, withholding as much information as possible to either bluff or maintain an advantage. He is more comfortable at range behind the scope of a rifle, but is not afraid to shove the silenced barrel of a blaster pistol into someone’s back and quietly take them out in an alley, either. Short, violent encounters are his forté; he doesn’t fight for the thrill, but to get the job done. There is no pleasure in combat for him; it’s just a means to an end. Ambushing opponents or distracting them with the environment before striking are favoured tactics of his. When pressed into combat without prep-time, Batu can find himself on the back foot as he’s not nearly as effective in a long-drawn out melee or close-combat encounter.
