This is a HARRRDDDDD comp... Just sayin.

I have to say that this is a scene that started my love for Star Wars. Why exactly this one? Well, for a young Alara, this scene was invigorating, exciting, and showed that even younglings can have fun and win with the Force. It made me think of the Force as a friendly guardian; helping Anakin win the race and earn his own freedom to his destiny. The effects impressed me too. The whole idea of being asked by a Jedi Master to do whatever it took to become his apprentice really excited me. I guess it was also because of the Force planning out that very moment for Anakin that also made me excited.

I never really understood the whole politics of the Empire and the Republic until I was much older (like pretty recent actually), but it just goes to show the great adventure of space in new worlds, new planets, with new alien species, new powers, and new destinies excited me. I was always a rather imaginative person, still am, so little ‘Lara loved this new found dimension. Anything that could make sense to me on a scientific level made me happy since I could truly understand it. Even little ‘Lara liked her logic.

I actually have the Dark Jedi Brotherhood to thank for helping me rediscover that excitement little ‘Lara forgot over the ages. I couldn’t help but study every Shadow Academy course, write with the strongest authors I could find, and check off the promotion requirements as fast as I possibly could. My real life best friend Shadow really made this easy for me as well. She helped me develop my character even deeper by allowing me to write my character to be her character’s sister. It’s been a great journey, and much like this scene; it just seems to be getting better and better.

I got into star wars quite late in terms of the time they were all released and it's quite hard to choose a single scene from them all to pick however aside from all the massive star ships, laser swords and mystical magics in star wars one of my favourite moments throughout all the films occurred during the battle of Hoth.

For me it is a real tip of the hat to the Eastern front during the second world war. Huge armoured coloumn advancing across the frozen tundra towards soldiers embedded down in snow dug trenches frantically trying to fight off their invaders as they slowly make there way across to wipe out their targets..

I really got a feeling of the differences that were supposed to be between the Imperial forces and the Rebel Alliance. The Imperial force was unstoppable, more advanced, better equipped and better trained (ish) but the sheer scale of this just made the rebels seem much more heroic in their stand against this.

The rebels desperately trying to immobilise the AT-AT's and stop them, all the time watching it I really started to sympathise with them and how they could survive. Just watching in awe of the magnificence of these huge behemoths like lumbering elephants striding towards them shots just bouncing off as if they were rubber. Almost godzilla like resistance to the troops of japan in all the old movies I used to watch.

This battle scene just made the film my favourite out of the saga and even with the newer films this still remain to be my favourite.

Considering that I've literally grown up with Star Wars its difficult to pinpoint one single defining moment. However the image I chose sums up a big part of why Star Wars has always meant so much to me. It reminds me of many things that I've come to hold dear. There is the knowledge that as much as things may change, there are constants we can rely on. There is always hope to be found in the darkest times. There is always something worth fighting for when you hold on to your beliefs. That even when the odds seem stacked against you, there's always a way to overcome the challenge.

Star Wars has been a solid rock in my life that I've always enjoyed being able to turn to. Sure it may seem strange to some people to care so much about a fictional galaxy and a bunch of made up characters, but that isn't what keeps me coming back. Sure the flash and thrill of the epic battles are amazing, but the core, to me, of what Star Wars is about is that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they come together. It generated an unbelievable and remarkable community and I'm glad to be able to count myself among that community. I never fail to be encouraged by the underlying themes of hope, friendship, and courage that run through the movies. And I think that's part of why that image now means so much to me, particularly in the light of our real world loss of Carrie Fisher. In Star Wars, there is still always hope, and the Force, if we believe.
