Competition: [Hoth] An Icy Blade

Finished
[Hoth] An Icy Blade

The 2017 Scimitar of Hoth competition is coming to a close, and with it will be an overall winner who will be fictionally granted a ceremonial blade to carry until the following year. Thus, we decided to give our members a chance to design this weapon themselves.

Your objective is to design a sword (a scimitar would be preferred, but we’re open to other designs) in an original piece for the winner to carry with pride. Valid submissions to this competition will earn the entrant a bonus of five (5) points to the Scimitar of Hoth competition.

Entries may be completed through either digital (computer) or traditional (pencil and paper) artwork, or a combination of the two. Original artwork is preferred, though if you choose to use photo manipulation of a fairuse piece, please link a source to the original piece to be considered valid. Any standard image type (.jpg, .png, etc.) may be submitted through the site. Grading will be decided using the DJB Graphics Rubric v2.

An example of how I would design a weapon would involve pencil and paper, followed by inking the lines and color; this Warhammer was completed using sharpies.

This blade has an option to insert a crystal with a button allowed to activate such crystal, giving an icy glow to the center of the blade. It is dyed an icy blue color regardless, but the light also increases the glow if applicable.

Detailed History - The Scimitar of Hoth is one of the few surviving relics which belonged to the ancient Jedi Lord. Forged in the final days of the Army of Light, the weapon utilised alchemical properties which dated back to the Order's original foundation, and incorporates elements typically only seen in katanas. While design qualities and elements can certainly be seen in its blade, which was designed with slashes and rapid parries in mind over sudden stabs, the scimitar's structure best suits those who favour physical strength as much as speed. The broader end of the blade allows sweeping blows and strikes to carry far more force behind each impact, wearing down an opponent or quickly disarming them.

The obsidian edge of the weapon was forged with an unknown element which further enhanced the wielder's capabilities with the Force, and could enhance the weapon given their clarity and focus. The metallic properties of the blade were made of folded durasteel, and incorporated the Army's heraldry into its base. Due to Hoth's typically bellicose temperament, the blade's capabilities served those whose intents were focused and clear, and were bent toward protecting others over simple conquest. This made the blade's edge dull in the hands of a Sith or similar acolyte of Darkness, but it also meant that the later Jedi Masters who emphasised balance over purpose could not utilise it so effectively. The weapon was only gifted to Hoth himself a short time prior to the Seventh Battle of Ruusan, and the Jedi Lord himself supposedly utilised it in battle only thrice. He allowed it to remain in the care of a subordinate during the final confrontation against Skere Kaan and the Brotherhood of Darkness, which allowed it to endure long past its master's death. It is as of yet unknown how it survived Darth Sidious' purge of the Jedi Order, and was found mysteriously delivered to House Hoth only a scant few years ago. Legend has it that the weapon is semi-sentient, and will use the will of the Force to seek out a worthy wielder to carry it into battle.
