We’ve all walked miles in our characters’ boots, charged into battle, piloted starships through asteroid storms, negotiated with Hutts, or conjured up shadows with dark alchemy. Over the course of our Brotherhood careers, our characters have evolved, grown stronger, and earned their scars.
But here’s the question: How well do you really know them?
Sure, your character can duel Jedi with a half-smile and a broken saber. Maybe they’re a master of sabotage, or the sharpest mind in the room. But beyond all the battlefield glory and mystical powers... What makes them tick?
This competition isn’t about your character’s next big mission, nor is it focused on what happens between those missions. Instead, think about why they do what they do. Don’t focus on their backstory, think more along the lines of:
Do they chew the inside of their cheek when anxious?
Do they bite their nails, tap their knee?
Is there a ritual they follow before slipping into battle mode?
Do they write letters they never send, collect strange trinkets, or quote ancient poetry to calm their nerves?
Manners and Mannerisms, Manners are the outward expression of a person's character and behavior, while mannerisms are observable, often unconscious, habits or gestures.
Head/Face: Tilting the head in thought, hair tossing, nose twitching, or raising eyebrows.
Body Language: A confident posture with head held high, fidgeting, or slouching in weariness.
Vocalizations: Mouthing lyrics, clenching teeth, or quivering lips when nervous.
These are all examples of how one may be defined. These actions provide clues about a person's emotional state, confidence, personality, and attitudes in various situations. So how well do you Know Thyself?
In at least 500 words, show us what makes your character who they are. Explore their quirks, rituals, fears, comforts, routines and idiosyncrasies. This isn’t an action piece or a spy mission, it’s a chance to peel back the layers and let us see the soul beneath your armor. You may choose either your main or alt character(s), and you’re welcome to include relevant NPCs if they help bring those inner details to light. Character snapshots are required.
Judging: Submissions will be graded using the Official VOICE Fiction Grading Rubric of course, with extra emphasis on originality and creativity. Let us see what makes your character unique among the stars. Ties will be determined by originality, creativity and time of submission.
