Competition: Full Circle

Finished
Full Circle

A very common pattern in the storytelling for TV shows is for the first part of the story to be about one thing and the second part of the story to be about something completely different, but at the end it circles back and the first thing is what resolves the conflict. Here are two examples of what I mean:

There's an episode of Family Guy where Peter meets and becomes friends with Jesus. The episode opens with him annoying his family by playing the song Surfin' Bird repeatedly until they destroy his copy of the record. He only meets Jesus because he's working at the record store where Peter goes looking for a new copy, and that begins the second act. At the end of the episode Jesus gives Peter a new copy of the record, tying the two acts together.

A second example of this almost happened in a Run-On when I was but a wee Protector. Telona took a group of Journeymen on a mission to capture some Dark Side Dragons. When we returned, we discovered that everyone on the Sword's Sheath had been infected with mind-controlling parasites. We all almost died fighting our infected comrades. The end of the story could have been that the Dark Side Dragons we captured played a critical role in being able to defeat and cure our friends of the parasites. It didn't end that way, but it could have made for a pretty cool ending.

In this competition, you will write a story consisting of two acts. The first act will set up and lead into the second act. The two must be obviously distinct from one another, and the second act must not be possible without the first (eg. in the Family Guy episode Peter never would have gone to the record store if his family hadn't destroyed his record, and in the parasite story if we hadn't gone with Telona we all would have gotten infected and died). At the end of the second act, the conflict is resolved using a major element from the first act. Bonus points if it is used in an unusual, creative way.

There is no minimum or maximum length for this story. It just needs to follow the pattern laid out above. Stories will be primarily graded on entertainment value (comedic, dramatic... whatever you prefer, just make it a good read), Star Wars realism, and technical quality (spelling, grammar, etc.) in that order.

Keep in mind there's a pretty short deadline for this, so plan ahead and use your time this week wisely!
