Competition: Monstrosity: Fall of the Infinite

Finished
Monstrosity: Fall of the Infinite

Thousands of years ago, The Infinite Empire established dominance in the Cocytus system. With their fall, the once slaves in the Cocytus system were free to once again develop along their own paths, establish their own destinies. But the stories of the Infinite Empire became solidified in the legends of all in the system.

Write a poem from the point of view of one of the indigenous cultures in the system about the legends of the Infinite Empire.

Minimum of 15 lines of poetry required. Free prose is not allowed, must follow some form of rhyme or poetry style (e.g. 5 Haiku, or an ABAB Rhyme style).

Grading will be based upon poetic composition, adherence to the prompt, and creativity of the poem.

Unstoppable, Relentless, Infinite,
Nothing could stop their advance
We did everything we could
But never stood a chance
Our numbers were legion
On every world, a swarm
But it wasn't enough to stop them
We could not control the storm

Oppressive, Ubiquitous, Omniscient,
To drive the most sane man mad
And our most precious freedom
The most precious thing we ever had
Our legacy is defeat
Future generations a slave
A life of eternal suffering
From the cradle to the grave

Fall of the Infinite

The stories of old are true
Of the infinite Empire’s rule
Living under them made us blue
Making us follow their rule.

Cowering beneath their feet
Was now how we liked to be
Soon their end they would meet
Buried deep under the nearest tree.

The powerful race would never last
They fell like all others
Now they live in the past
Never again to be a bother.

Dead is the Infinite Empire
Never again to hurt us
Destroyed by chaos and fire
Now we move on with no fuss.

Tales of Old
Eetherbiail Dossier #11484

They came in the night,
We know not where they come from,
But they destroy all.

We stood not a chance;
Death latched onto all our fears,
They called us a blight.

Destinies were bent,
To the beat of the drum,
An intricate dance.

Molded into slaves,
Ripped from all that we held dear,
Who knows where they went?

Although they did fall,
Never again transpire,
We have left the caves.

Their name a whisper,
The Infinite Empire,
We cowered under.
