Primary reason

If I had to pick a single member for the clan to look up to, a paragon of what a leader and a member should be, I would pick Edgar Drachen without a moment of hesitation. Even now, as the clan enters a golden age of sorts full of standout members and heavy hitters, Edgar still towers above the rest like the mighty dragon he is. You would think that kind of impressive record of individual activity, leadership and staff work (which has been recognized separately by the Fist) would give one a huge ego, but not Ed. Edgar is one of the most humble and down to earth members you’ll find. His primary motivation is taking care of his people and lifting them up. He drives to excel as an individual member to lead from the front, not to aggrandize himself.

Ed is without question the finest unit leader I have worked with in the Brotherhood. If this award seems it’s been a long time coming it is because Edgar demanded we award all his people first before putting anything in for him. That just shows the character he has as a leader. Digging into the numbers, Edgar is a prolific content generator, he has organized 74 competitions and co-organized another 18. Those competitions include the house event Suspicion on Solyiat (19 unique participants) and the clan event The Blooming of Solyiat (18 unique participants). He also received a Scroll of Indoctrination and Scroll of the Master for recruiting and mentoring Ashael Blackstar to JM4. I could write volumes of how valuable Edgar is as a member of the summit. As Consul I count him as one of my primary advisors, he is a tireless advocate for the members and isn’t afraid to be honest and hold Arch and I accountable in our roles. This isn’t to say Ed is a grump or something, he just has a way of speaking the truth in a way a respected friend would out of a desire for you and the clan to be the best.

As an individual member Edgar’s record is simply breathtaking. He has participated in 172 competitions (with an additional 30 container competitions) and taken home Crescents in 39 of those. He consistently ranks as of the club’s top gamers with 1646 Clusters of Fire, 2270 Clusters of Earth and 17 Pendants of Blood all since his last promotion. Not confined to a single activity, Edgar has also accumulated 28 Clusters of Ice and 26 Clusters of Graphite in that same time period. His breadth of activity was put to the test when he took 2nd overall in the COU-TAL coop event Desperate Measures.

Edgar and I’s friendship predates our time in the Brotherhood, we even joined on the same day (with PINs one digit apart). I could wax on about how valuable that friendship has been on a personal level but in an award like this I’ll stick to a professional level. Throughout our entire DB careers there’s been a soft competition between us as we drive each other to excel. I can say I wouldn’t be where I am today in the club without his motivation and support. While I may have hit some milestones first, he was always right on my heels. Today I will state in front of the entire club that Edgar, my friend, you have surpassed me in many ways. I look up to you and I know the rest of the clan does as well. Thank you for all that you do for us and accept this small token of our gratitude.

Additional reasons

I only joined the team of COU’s Summit four short months ago, so I’ve only seen the latter half of Edgar Drachen’s drive — let’s face it, there’s no other word I can think of to describe this — to ensure the success of House Hoth and Clan Odan-Urr as a whole. When I joined the team, the Blooming of Solyiat and Scimitar of Lord Hoth were already established; Blooming was ready to go. I’ve worked on Scimitar the last four months and that was nothing compared to the planning session that went into Suspicion on Solyiat.

Just the sight of this maelstrom of activity laid out after removing all of Edgar’s activity as Praetor to the Fist leaves me filled with awe. The mere thought of attempting to accomplish this level of activity makes me imagine that I would need to physically clone myself two or three times to manage it in a year, and Edgar did all of this in TEN MONTHS. He told me on two occasions to make sure the members were taken care of first. So, in my opinion, we’ve definitely saved the best for last.

Edgar does all of this for the members with no regard of his own accomplishments. There is no yearning for recognition beyond a simple ‘thank you’. That’s just the kind of person he is and I feel there will be massive shoes to fill on the day that Edgar Drachen decides to retire.

Ed, you’ve been an inspiration since I met you. You quite literally put blood, sweat and tears into everything that you do for the Clan. This is our way of saying thank you.

Enjoy that Sapphire Blade, brother. You’ve more than earned it!

Edgar is there. I don't really have any other way of putting it. You want to game? Ed's there to play with you. You in his house? Ed is there, as attentive to providing content and recognition to his members as any leader I know. You need to talk to somebody? Ed's there to listen to you and do whatever is in his power to help. There aren't a lot of people around who you can always count on, but Edgar Drachen is one of them.

I've known Ed as my Master, my equal in rank, and my subordinate - though that last one is really a joke, since he keeps Turel and I in line and needs no management himself - and I can say that he's straightforward and fair with you regardless of what your ID line looks like. He's perfectly agreeable and down for anything, but if something is going to hurt the members, he'll fight tooth and nail until he's satisfied that their interests are being put first.

Ed's the butt of a lot of jokes in the various COU chats (the sheep-shagging geezer), but the truth is that I can't imagine Odan-Urr's summit without him and hope that I never have to.

Ahh Edgar or Egg as he is affectionately known as. This guys is a hell of a member and leader in the DJB. In all the years I have been in this club I have seen few like him. As a leader he asks no more from his members, than he asks of himself. He holds himself to a higher standard and embodies the COU leadership spirit of leading from the front. Beyond that he is a hell of a force in the gaming spotlight, and Im not talking about his FIST-y stuff. He is always open to play people in Overwatch, JA, Battlefront, Heroes of the Storm, and Ive even seen him suffer through some rounds of Pazaak.

Of late he has led a crusade on getting some of the Hoth lore filled. Getting members excited and active in various comp series he has run both prior and after the GJW announcements. He is keen on having his House members ready for all aspects of the GJW. He is the kind of leader that I admire, one that will not push you to do things, he only reminds that things are up. He wants his peeps to better themselves, and would rather see them be awarded than himself.

Congrats on this stabby thing my friend. It really is well deserved. You truly are one of the reasons the heart of COU beats as strong as it does.
