Primary reason

In all the time I’ve known Kelly Mendes, she has been an active leader and role model. Now, as I write this recommendation, I have continued to be floored by her participation rates, her organizational skills, and her calm and level headed demeanor as she manages her house.

Since her last recognition in February of this year, Kelly has participated in 41 competitions, coorganized 5 competitions, and submitted 4 additional Quaestor reports - always on time on the 10th of each month. In regards to her own activity, she is a consistently present and successful gamer, being the primary reason for Plagueis attaining #1 in gaming participation out of all of the clans during multiple consecutive weeks. Of course, Kelly is not limited to her gaming ability, which admittedly has earned her a whopping 1,441 Clusters of Fire and 13 Pendants of Blood; she has also managed to garner 20 Clusters of Earth, 9 Clusters of Graphite, 4 Clusters of Ice, 2 Crescents with Amethyst Stars, and 6 Crescents with Ruby Stars (the last of which are due to her frequent participation in Brotherhood-wide competitions).

Kelly showed her mettle in the May the 4th! Competition, though where she truly shone was in her organization of the Mysteries of Aliso event within Clan Plagueis. In my recommendation for Furios’ Grand Cross, I claimed he was the godfather of the event; if that is the case, then Kelly can absolutely be considered the architect. She took everyone’s ideas and thoughts and made them all make sense, creating full blown competition templates and guidelines and particularly showing her skills by putting together the original NPC and Aliso Locations competitions that members could contribute their own ideas to. There was little to nothing that Arden and I changed in regards to those specific comps and their rules - that’s how well put together they really were.

While Kelly has proven herself on both the ACC Staff and the Shadow Academy staff, I personally believe that her activity in Plagueis alone warrants an award. Despite being in a vastly different time zone compared to the rest of the clan, Kelly is active in both the Plagueis Telegram channel and the DB Fiction channel. She steps in to help as a mentor, and she provides wry humor, silliness, and perspective to the culture of her clan. She holds high expectations for the members of her house Ajunta Pall, though she always encourages them rather than simply pressuring them, reminding them that she is there to help. She is a true example of a leader that all of us can look up to.

It is for this reason, and all others stated above, that I wholeheartedly recommend that Kelly be awarded a Grand Cross of the Dark Side for her work. Thank you, Kelly, for being one of the best.

Additional reasons

While I have only been a part of the upper echelons of the SA staff for a short time, I can say that Kelly has had a tremendous impact before and during my time. WHen I joined the staff one of my ideas was to write down and codify several of our policies. Kelly successfully argued that a few were a bit too severe against the SA staff. She was also the key person in helping me and Farrin in deciding what direction we would attempt to take the Shadow Academy Society in. In numbers, she has graded 40 courses since her last award and 95 since her last promotion. This may seem like a low number, but the majority of those courses were ones that consisted of several essay questions and required her to put significant thought into the grading.

Congratulations Kelly!

Kelly Mendes has been a successful addition to my ACC staff. Showing enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, Kelly has taken to the structure of the office and has taken part in both discussion and project work. Since her last promotion, Kelly has both judged and participated in the ACC itself. This is a critical balance to strike and one she does without much issue. After all, how can we be expected to pass judgement if we don't receive it ourselves? We have to know the system as a participant, as well as an administrator.

In hard numbers, Kelly has judged 5 battles, finished 8, and provided 1 original venue for the Scenario Hall. She also looked over the names of other scenarios and brought in potential images. This helped in the smooth re-integration of the Scenario Hall in its transformed state. Beyond this, she never balks at feedback. Her judgements are done in a timely manner and she both listens and adapts to the feedback provided. It is clear that she has both technical knowledge and a will to apply it.

It has been a pleasure working with her, and it is with pride that I outline her contributions as a recommendation for promotion. Congratulations, Kelly.
