I was thinking something along the lines of the recent war has torn his beleif in the Jedi code. He struggles to understand a code that preaches peace but not passion in a universe full of conflict and strife. Instead he decides to now the follow the light in his own way. Ignoring the Jedi code and embracing his emotions whilst pursuing his teachings in the light side of the Force.
