Primary reason

Birds. As we all know, they don't exist. They are observational drones implemented by the shadow government to work unseen. And this one? This one is a high grade model.

Often times in this club, there are large scale changes that have to occur but there is a serious lacking in appetite to tackle them. This can lead us to slow reaction periods, missing opportunities, and not getting outcomes that truly reflect the desires of the club. Arch, on the other hand, came at it with the mindset of "well it might as well be me". He came at our ingrained, systemic issues from two angles: is XP really rewarding what we want it to, and does our competition structure encourage the behaviours we want it to?

And that's the thing. What do we want for this club to succeed? At the core, we want to encourage interaction among the members and engagement with our systems. This was rightly pointed out by the bird of analysis. And so, he did what no one else was willing to. He looked at the numbers. He analyzed what people were actually doing. Then he wrote a few minor dissertations to back up and explain his findings, along with a proposed path forward. He didn't just dumb-fire the concept though. He championed it.

He did what could only be described as the boring, painful, and laborious task of debating his findings, explaining their meaning, engaging in aligning multiple thought processes into if this was what we actually wanted, then kept alongside the ongoing projects from start to finish. And that's such an important distinction. Anyone can start the ball rolling, but to see it all the way to the end? That's dedication, no small portion of insanity, and a desire for this club to succeed.

And this is all on top of literally everything else Arch does for this club. His hand is in all the cookie jars, despite having to step away for the rigors of real-life. He still sits in on discussions ranging from GM and DGM staff to Regent and Headmaster issues. You could say that while he has resigned himself from the captain's chair in each of these instances, he's not been able to escape the call of an advisor. That is what this club needs at its highest level. It needs passion, focus, and an ability to produce. Without it, we don't survive. Without it, we don't grow.

The fact of the matter is, almost everything Arch does for this club is hard to quantify, but everyone sees it and acknowledges it. It's not something you can put a clean and sanitary number on. It's ever present, continuously progressing, and eternally appreciated.

For that, we can only acknowledge and award him. And I'll be damned if he doesn't let me do it.

Thank you, Arch. I value your brilliance and effort. Even when you're yelling from the trenches, you shine amongst the chaos.

Additional reasons

Now that the incubation period has finally come to an end on the most ambitious overhaul our competition and award system has ever seen, it feels only right that we celebrate what has emerged from that long, careful process. And not just any hatchling—this is the moment we crack open a second egg. A large one. A rare one. The kind that only appears when something truly extraordinary has taken place. Because let’s be honest, what Arch set out to do wasn’t simply difficult; it was the kind of task most people would take one look at and promptly fly in the opposite direction. For decades, our competition structure remained largely untouched. It was reliable, familiar, and once upon a time, brilliantly suited to the club we were. But as we grew, evolved, and spread our wings in new directions, that same system stayed grounded. And hovering above it all, like a persistent bird of prey, was a challenge we all recognized but struggled to truly solve: how do we encourage the kinds of engagement that matter most? How do we reward collaboration, community, and meaningful participation without opening the door to exploitation or hollow achievement? The introduction of XP only sharpened that dilemma, giving rise to behaviors that gamed the system rather than strengthened it. That’s where Arch stepped in, not just willing, but seemingly determined to dive headfirst into the storm. Where others might have relied on instinct or assumption, Arch grounded his work in something far more substantial: data. Real data. Hard data. He didn’t just skim the surface, he burrowed deep, dissecting patterns, identifying flaws, and mapping out possibilities with the kind of focus that would make even the most studious owl envious. What followed was not a quick fix or a surface-level adjustment, but a full-scale reimagining of one of the most foundational systems in our club. And it didn’t happen overnight. This was a long migration, marked by countless revisions, discussions, and course corrections. Every step of the way, Arch demonstrated not just intelligence and dedication, but patience. The kind of patience required to sit on an idea, refine it, test it, and ensure that when it finally took flight, it would soar rather than stumble. The result is nothing short of transformative. What Arch delivered is a system that doesn’t just function; it aligns. It reflects who we are as a club today and where we want to go tomorrow. It encourages the behaviors we value most, creates clarity where there was once confusion, and lays down a sustainable foundation for years to come. And just as importantly, Arch didn’t stop at the design itself; he ensured that others could follow the flight path. Through extensive documentation, clear explanations, and thoughtful communication, he made sure that this wasn’t just a change imposed on the club, but one we could all understand and embrace. It’s no exaggeration to say that this project reads like a dissertation: meticulous, data-driven, and deeply intentional. The kind of work that doesn’t just solve a problem, but elevates the entire conversation around it. In a world where it’s easy to shrug and accept limitations, to say “this is just how things are”, Arch chose a different path. He looked at something complex, entrenched, and intimidating, and said, “This can be better.” Then he proved it. That mindset alone is rare. Pair it with the ability to execute at this level, and you have someone operating in truly exceptional airspace, far above the norm, and in the company of very few peers. So today, as we recognize this achievement, it feels fitting that we do so with one of the highest honors we can bestow. Not just because of the scale of the work, but because of what it represents: vision, perseverance, and the courage to help an entire community take flight. Thank you, Arch, for your dedication, your brilliance, and your willingness to tackle something that few others would even dare to approach.
