Padawan Tisto Kingang

New Rank
Equite 3
Requested by
Captain Aryn "Jade" Erinos-Magnuri
Primary reason

Tisto Kingang is a member that needs no introduction; he’s known for his boundless energy—which earned him the nickname of ‘puppy’ from me early on, as he legitimately reminded me of a hyperactive puppy—and creativity in the family that is Odan-Urr. He is also one of my few members that earned the title of ‘man with many faces’. I say this as, since the moment I joined the COU Summit team as Aedile of House Hoth, he started as Tisto Kingang, changed to Azha Mos, then to Alifal Bav—the character that I referred to as ‘Falafel’ when I forgot how to spell it, then stuck to that afterward—and back to Tisto Kingang.

In my eyes, one of the main qualities that define the higher echelons of the Equite ranks is leadership. However, I will let one of the others joining me in this recommendation cover Tisto’s time in an official capacity, as it was before my time in Odan-Urr. In the time I have been on this team, he’s shown my own belief on what a leader should be: one that leads by example. Tisto Kingang is always the first to provide the rallying cry to the other members when an event launches, urging his fellows into activity by hyping the particular competition that he’s done while showing a running number of just how many of these he has completed. To those who do not know him, it would seem as though Tisto were bragging; in truth, it is anything but. He challenges others to meet or overcome his own level of completion in any event. In the recent House event, The Price of Freedom, Tisto participated in every competition available whilst urging others to do the same. At the end, he kept a tally of points earned as the competitions closed to maintain the excitement over who would place. Despite an overall placement of fifth in this event, Tisto showed how good a sport he is by congratulating the winners.

This is not the only time Tisto has tracked such things without it being his responsibility. In the monthly Scimitar of Hoth competition—we release the names and points a day before the competition closes—he goes through each member’s activity and sorts it with a fine-toothed comb to ensure the points are exact. If there were any inconsistency in the points spread between mine and his results, Tisto will pull me aside to ask. This is a quality I encourage, as it shows the spirit of a true leader—one who does not require being in a position to confirm that everyone is receiving fair points on what they’ve earned. And, during this process, he is not checking his own score, but everyone else’s. This is not the limit of his activity, however.

In the time since his promotion to Equite II (early December of 2016), Tisto has earned a Steel Cross and a Dark Cross. Since that Dark Cross, Tisto has participated in 50 competitions—pulling in eleven Seals of Wrath for participation in the Twelfth Great Jedi War—completed four ACC Battles and passed seven Shadow Academy courses. In this time, he has earned a Crescent with Ruby Star, three Crescents with Amethyst Stars, a Crescent with Sapphire Star, two Crescents with Emerald Stars, two Crescents with Topaz Stars and a Crescent with Quartz Star. Additionally, Tisto has earned a Scroll of Indoctrination for his recruit—Jack Sewet—reaching Journeyman One whilst pulling in one hundred forty-nine Clusters of Fire, thirteen Clusters of Graphite and twenty-seven Clusters of Ice.

In my mind, there is none more deserving of the rank of Equite III. Tisto, thank you for all you have done and your continued dedicated service to House Hoth and Clan Odan-Urr. You were the first to welcome me to Odan-Urr and I’m proud to be part of this eclectic family. Congratulations.

Additional reasons

Tisto has been a steady presence in Odan-Urr and Hoth, offering to provide assistance in whatever way was needed. His pure activity numbers are impressive but in my recommendation, I'd like to focus on his extracurricular work for a big Hoth project: its Wiki updates. The call for volunteers was put out by the Quaestor, one which Tisto enthusiastically replied to and applied his efforts towards.

Tisto has assisted the House Hoth's wiki efforts primarily through the creation of two centralizing documents. These consist of the Hoth timeline and a collection of all Hoth wiki pages. For the former, he created a two-page document tracking back Hoth's activities since the fall of New Tython to the current timeframe. This required research into all its past wiki pages (which were woefully out of date at the time of this page's creation) and individual research into facts that were never quite written down. For the latter, this was a one-page list of current Hoth wiki pages served as a key starting point to the larger project efforts themselves and requires a bit of digging on the wiki site, since Odan-Urr page tend to have way too many orphan links.

These efforts not only required Tisto to do a lot of the dirty work in terms of research but it assisted the Hoth Summit's management of the overall wiki project. Due to his considerable activity levels, his efforts as a BTL, and his assistance in the House wiki project so far, I believe that Tisto Kingang is worthy of the rank of Equite 3, both in activity an community spirit.

I am proud to count him as a fellow Odanite and I can't wait to see what he gets up to next. Congratz on your promotion to Equite 3!!!

I have known Tisto fka Vadin fka Azha fka Tisto fka Azha fka Alifal kna Tisto Kingang for a while now. In fact we both became leaders in Hoth on the same day way back in 2015. He was my BTL and I was his Aedile it was during this time out home New Tython was invaded and destroyed but the vile GM Pravus. Tisto and I bonded and joined forces in our few harrowing few months in leadership.

He quickly joined me in rallying the House away from shock and horror of our loss to use it to forge a new and brighter future now only for the Clan but for House Hoth as well. He was instrumental in helping me run events and keeping the members engaged throughout this difficult time.

Tisto was also a godsend when it came time for us to sit down and create a proposal for Hoth’s new home. He immediately jumped on board with ideas and again encouraged House members to give us their ideas to help us create one of the finests new planets in the DJB universe. His spirit and dedication to that project was only surpassed but his real life knowledge of planetary science. With every idea he fact checked it to see if it was remotely possible within the realm of real science.

It’s not only his passion, drive, spirit and motivational abilities that make me proud to recommend Tisto for his Equite 3 promotion. He is a great friend, a dedicated member and a person i believe will make a good leader within the DJB one day.

So Tisto congratulations on Equite 3 and I hope to see you grow even more as a member and a leader within the club.

Ghost Edgar Drachen, 2018-03-25 15:52:36 UTC

Tisto's a fixture in these parts. He's managed to take the enthusiasm and optimism of a brand new member and carry that uninterrupted through into the mid, and now upper, equite ranks. It's a rare aspect of the DB experience that Tisto won't make an effort at. And when those efforts earn him a victory, he doesn't gloat. More impressively, when he doesn't succeed, Tisto doesn't give up. He doesn't brood over it or even get discouraged. Instead, he redoubles his efforts while maintaining a positive and friendly attitude.

That's a rare quality and something I want to hold up as an example to everyone in Odan-Urr. More generally, Tisto is a key cheerleader for competitions and just activity in general. He's a constant, friendly presence on multiple Telegram channels. Even though it's been a little while now since he was last on the summit, he remains a leader through his daily conduct.

Congrats on the promo, kid.

Primary reason

Alara has been exceptional at the helm of Excidium, having spent the last 7 months as its Quaestor (and the 4 months before that at AED in her 11 months since last promotion). In that time, Alara has earned 2 grand crosses, a dark cross, a seal of loyalty, a silver nova, 39 crescents, 215 clusters of fire, 49 of ice, 12 of earth, and 75 of graphite. Alara has entered 151 competitions since her last promotion, earning 18 seals of wrath in the last GJW. She's also been active in the shadow academy, finishing 18 courses and earning 7 degrees.

Alara is as active as a leader as she is as a member, having hosted 70 competitions in the last 11 months, and co-hosted a further 4. She's made 17 news posts and continually follows up dialogue on her reports and others across the clan in her 38 news report comments. Alara has been making sure her house wiki page is up to date, having basically rewrote it from scratch to get the page as it is now: https://wiki.darkjedibrotherhood.com/view/Excidium. Alara always keeps a strong community engagement as one of our most active members of the clan Telegram channel, and is ever-present in the clan summit channel.

Alara's greatest display of leadership skill came within the GJW, leading a team of 8 Excidium members to a silver nova in the voice recording multimedia event. Alara's work in this competition was phenomenal as she led the production of a professionally produced audio drama containing members of her house. She held auditions, casting, wrote the script, managed the sound effects, the composition, timing, always making sure to incorporate the team members' ideas. The end result was a work of exceptional quality that earned 8 silver novae for the clan.

For her exceptional work in terms of her personal activity, her contributions to her house, and to her clan, I'm very happy to recommend Alara for promotion to Equite 3. Congratulations!

Additional reasons

It is a great pleasure to be able to add my support to this recommendation to recognize Alara Deathbane for her activity since her last promotion. Alara is by far one of CSP’s most indispensable members and we are lucky to have her in a positioned role as well. Over the past eleven months she's done amazing work as a leader, project coordinator, and content generator for our Clan - especially for Excidium. Beyond that, she's been an amazing member from the perspective of personal activity and it is my strong belief she is ready for elevation to the rank of Equite 3.

As explanation of my belief, I see Alara’s activity as having two separate categories; personal activity & leadership activity. When it comes to personal activity, Eli has already covered the activity metrics in the primary recommendation (see above). However, in addition to the statistics he uses, I’d like to further draw attention to some notable achievements Alara has made. Not only has she competed in 151 competitions since her last promotion, she has also had eighteen 1st-place finishes, fifteen 2nd-place finishes, and seven 3rd-place finishes from these entries. This isn’t surprising as she often throws her all into a submission to make sure it is of great and competitive quality. Additionally, while Alara is mostly focused on fiction and misc-related activities; she is a well rounded member who competes in gaming and ACC activities whenever possible - having four completed ACC battles since her last promotion. Often I find myself having to encourage junior leaders to not forget about their own personal activity once they come positioned - yet, even before I was Proconsul and was a counterpart to Alara, I’ve never once had to concern myself if Alara was being active and setting a good example - as she has always been at the front of Scholae Palatinae’s activity for as long as I can remember. Truly, CSP is blessed by her presence on this front.

In addition to the personal activity, Alara has a notable amount of leadership activities to focus upon since her last promotion. For over eleven months she has served in a positioned role for the Excidium summit, first as Aedile and then later taking the helm as Quaestor for the last 7 months. From these positions she has driven the war machine that is Excidium and kept it’s momentum going. As her main resource, regular communication, Alara has kept her unit informed through regular monthly reports, daily use of telegram, and daily promotion of the Battleteam channels. In addition, since she became Quaestor she has scheduled regular monthly meetings with her house summit, each lasting a several hours per session, managing their focuses and aligning the goals of the whole unit with it’s two battleteam units. In terms of a Quaestor’s communication responsibilities; Alara set a high bar for anyone to follow and I appreciate the great example this sets.

Additionally, in terms of setting a great example, Alara has been instrumental at training and developing her summit team, giving rise to an incredibly talented group of individuals who are well supported and led by this great example. Furthermore, she has been a great coach for her team - taking the responsibility for the development of her Battleteam leaders seriously, and sharing in the success each of them have had. This training doesn’t stop at just the summit level though, as she is constantly working with members to develop their competitions, proofreading their work, and auditing their activity. Stepping up to audit the House activity on a regular basis. She combs through each dossier to capture their activity, so we can make determinations on who should be awarded and promoted - requiring several hours of detail work each month.

Yet, Alara’s work as a project coordinator has also been incredible. It was her efforts that lead to the creation of a House Excidium Leadership Calendar, which contains all the major events, reporting days, competitions, project deadlines, etc. for the house and its subunits outlines her organised approach to leadership. As was described in her last Dark Cross, Alara also gone on to help develop the new House Excidium sub-floatilla, a section of our fleet specifically designed around Excidium's expanding lore and role in the clan. When members submitted proposals for the fleet, she reviewed each of them meticulously and asked followed-up questions to understand the design & intent of the composition. Once the ship types were nailed down, Alara was vital in getting members involved in a follow-up project to name all of the Ships, Flights, and Squadrons for House Excidium. She helped us get 5 entries in the final 72 hours that definitively shaped the final results. Once that was done, she worked side-by-side with veteran members of the House to ratify the selection of the names.

It has been very awesome to see just how well Alara has jumped into the leadership life within the Brotherhood, and I look at her of a shining example of someone taking the roles and opportunities seriously to develop a positive community that others want to be a part of. This has been further strengthen by her approachability as anytime any member has voiced anything resembling an issue or complaint, Alara has been the first to reach out to them, often settling issues before the rest of us step in. One could easily be forgiven for seeing Alara as the mother of Excidium, in the sense that she is ever focused on the needs and wants of her crew and looking at what provides the best experiences for them. She genuinely cares for the people under her charge and actively looks to take care of them - whether it be through the communication methods used above or in conversations with the clan summit and our planning; she always is trying to best represent those under her charge. I’m glad to add my support to this recommendation to recognize the efforts of a great member, leader, and friend.

Raiju Kang Proconsul of Clan Scholae Palatinae

Raiju, 2018-03-22 15:06:01 UTC

Alara has been hard at work leading Excidium and taking part in planning for Clan events as well as projects. Though she has had plenty of things going on for her in real life she has strived to take on whatever task is thrown at her for the betterment of the House. She has also taken part in various competitions while encouraging others to do so. Though I’ve just barely been her Aedile, I’m very happy to see Alara move up in the Equite ranks! Congratulations, Alara! Well earned!

Primary reason

Grot. A one-syllable name of no particular pizzazz or attractiveness. Yet, it is one that has passed through many a members’ and leaders’ ear — even the DC’s! This lizard-man is well known for his insane dedication, a high warm-blooded activity for someone who needs a heating rock, and a fierce willingness to help his djb peers both in and out of clan. Participating in 86 competitions since his last promotion, Grot has earned himself 4 Diamond, 11 Ruby, 9 Amethyst, 15 Sapphire, 4 Emerald, and 3 Topaz Crescents. This was all within four months! His gaming efforts, 44 PvP matches and 12 PvE activities, had netted him 5 Pendants of Blood, 254 Clusters of Fire, and 70 Clusters of Earth in that time frame. Writing a total of 11,519 words of fiction for 13 fiction activities, the lizard had gained 39 Clusters of Ice, while his refrigerator art had been awarded 6 Clusters of Graphite. Additionally, he has been busy in the ACC and has 3 finished matches under his belt. Grot’s accomplishments don't stop there. With completion of 7 more SA courses, he had earned 2 Dark Mavens and a Dark Savant. Grot’s insane level of activity had earned him a Sapphire Blade! Only a Knight and already having such an award under his belt, or in this case, on his belt.

Grot extends a helping hand wherever he believes he can help. He had assisted the Voice in several tasks including: competition gathering and markdown formatting for Voice Report #13, collecting questions to the Voice from telegram into a document, proofreading comp material, and filling in templates for the Collective Chronicles: Crew It entries for the Collective time Wiki. In fact his wiki work has been the focus to many a project he’s volunteered to do. These include the ongoing Selen Development Project, Arcona wiki revamp, and Voidbreaker development project. In December, he had been named Wikipedian of the Month due to his activities there, receiving a Dark Side Scroll. Grot has been driven to promote and grow the Qel-Droma’s and Arcona’s gaming community. He’s currently running a cluster race for Qel-Droma, and has ran 4 unrelated and various competitions since his promotion to JM4.

To see this club, our clan and house, everything expand and grow past anyone's expectations is Grot’s drive and he won't rest till he does his part to make it so. And what better way to accomplish such goal but to focus on what truly makes the club a reality, the members. Grot is open and friendly to his peers, quick to help them with questions, offers to collaborate with them, etc.

I am pleased to recommend Grot for Equate I. Congratulations! The galaxy is your sandbox and we can't wait to see what more you build within it!

Additional reasons

What is there to say about Grot that hasn’t already been said? Honestly there isn’t much that this murder-lizard hasn’t done. Everyone’s favorite Trandoshan is always buried in some project or up to his ear-holes in one aspect of the club or another, be it the Shadow Academy, running competitions, writing fiction, creating beautiful refrigerator art, or gaming with his peers. There is so much that he has done in just the brief period of time since his promotion to Professional. He is a shining example of activity to those around him and I would be thoroughly surprised if that doesn’t continue to hold true.

In addition to his stellar trackable site performance, Grot is an incredible asset in many other aspects as well. I might argue that his greatest contributions come from activity the site doesn’t actually track. First and foremost, he is a near constant presence on Telegram, always willing to make people laugh, proof fictions, or just engage with anyone and everyone. Additionally, he is constantly looking for someone to assist. He actively seeks out those in leadership positions and asks to take on challenges, or projects, or really anything he can get his claws on. In my (admittedly short) time as a Battleteam Leader, he has approached me on several occasions to suggest competitions and projects; in fact, I had his first proposal in front of me within 24 hours of taking the office. He has done wonders in ensuring a smooth transition between my predecessor, Lucine, and myself and I am incredibly grateful for his efforts. All of this, on top of holding a position on the ACC staff as a judge, is more than we would expect of any other member, but is perfectly in line with what we have already seen, and will continue to see from our Trandoshan friend.

Congratulations, Grot. A well deserved promotion. I’m already looking forward to doing more paperwork with your name at the top. May your hunts be ever bountiful.

Leeadra Halcyon Battleteam Leader, Voidbreaker

Leeadra Halcyon, 2018-03-22 15:21:24 UTC

Sometimes you get the member who's active, needs no motivation and little direction. And sometimes you get a Grot, who's active, self motivated, and even after you've given him a pile of work, he keeps bugging you for more. Since obtaining his last rank, Grot has turned something like twenty thousand words for the Selen Development Project into legible, well formatted wiki articles.

He's also been a boon in Telegram and in general activity, which Zujenia I'm sure went into full detail on. My contribution to this fantastic recognition is to say thank you, Grot, for being awesome. Well done, you deserve it, see you here again in six months or so I'm sure.

Kordath Bleu
Consul, Arcona

General Stres'tron'garmis, 2018-03-22 15:22:58 UTC

And here we are again! Grot continues to distinguish himself as an exemplary member of Arcona. His rise through the ranks has been meteoric due to his constant activity. Since his last promotion, he has participated in 86 competitions and has written 11,519 words of fiction. He continues to frequently volunteer for projects, and his efforts have even earned him a Sapphire Blade.

But the numbers alone do not fully describe Grot’s efforts. He is perpetually present on Telegram, where he is a constant source of conversation and wisdom for the newer members. He is also willing to help others with anything from character development to fiction proofing. He is a valuable resource, and an asset to both Arcona and the DJB.

Grot is tireless and passionate in his work regarding the DB. For all of his tireless efforts, I am proud to recommend him for promotion to EQ1. Congratulations, Murder Lizard 2.0! Drinks are on you tonight. You can thank me by never making any more refrigerator art.

Telaris "Mav" Cantor
Primary reason

This recommendation will be relatively short, because Dracaryis' work speaks for itself. He has served as Fist of our Brotherhood for more than a year now, eleven months of which occurred since his last promotion. While quantitative measures of Dracaryis' leadership efforts over the last 11 months - 70 competitions organized, 43 co-organized - are impressive enough, the real value that he brings to the Dark Council is in his consistent presence and constant enthusiasm for the Brotherhood, as we previously recognized in his Amethyst Kukri in December, and which I will touch on here again.

Drac is party to every major discussion and decision we make, and his desire to improve gaming and offer our members more opportunities for engagement and fun is constantly on display, such as when his desire to expand gaming beyond just the simple PvP platforms of yore helped propel the 'bins' system to prominence in the last Great Jedi War. Drac oversaw the revamp of our platform system, opening any of our games to potential action in Vendettas and enabling members to participate in a variety of games at the Vendetta-level. Gaming saw more than four hundred total entries, with more than 120 different members participating in at least one gaming competition, making gaming our most popular "pillar" of the War. Drac's objective approach to gaming has led to large expansions in the platforms we offer: since his last promotion, the Fist's office has added 5 new platforms or modes for existing games and modified/updated the rewards for another dozen games. As Fist, gaming has seen steady, continual expansion, and I have no doubt that will continue throughout his term as Fist.

I speak for both Vyr and myself - as well as the former Grand Master - when I say thank you, Drac, for all you have done! Congratulations on Warlord!
