The Sniper’s cross-hairs panned the battlefield as he drew a bead on his next target. Exhaling slowly to steady his aim, he depressed the trigger firmly to send a thin bolt of crimson darting through the air. A heartbeat later, a One Sith Soldier’s head crunched and splattered into oblivion.

Breath in. Reload. Next Target. It was a slow process, but Marrek Gunstinson understood his role within Arcona’s military. Though just a Jedi Hunter, he had trained hard and fought even harder to make himself an asset to his Clan. His path was a long one, and it had not come without its share of obstacles. The hardest had been the departure of his master, Montressor, to lead and revitalize Plagueis.

No sooner than the thought had entered his mind, a figure streaked across the battlefield. He had close-cropped blonde hair and wore a full suit of black armor. His saber raised up high in the air as he blocked a deadly blow from a One Sith. Just as the blade descended, he saw a blur of motion from off to the side. Quicker than he could blink through the scope, Marrek saw his Consul, Marick Arconae interpose his lightsaber with the One Sith’s. Montresor did not miss a beat, and capitalized on the assist: driving his own saber into the One Sith’s belly.

Marrek continued to watch as the Quaestor and Consul moved back to back and deflected a series of blaster bolts. Another set of One Sith soldiers pressed in on them, trying to overwhelm the two Equites. Montresor moved with a clockwork efficiency while Marick was simply a flash kinetic movement. For all their tandem, however, Marrek saw a pair of One Sith Assassins materialize from the air, right behind Marick and Montresor. The Assassins were about to strike. Marrek only had one shot. He would have chose between his Master, and his Consul. Duty tore at his conscious.

Instinct took over. Marrek pulled the trigger, and the Assassin behind Marick dropped dead. The sudden crack of skull altered Marick to the danger, and the Arconae quickly flicked his wrist and sent a hidden knife flying into the forehead of the Assassin about to stab Montresor. The two leaders nodded at one another and pressed off back into the throng of battle.

Marrek pulled his eye away from his scope and sighed.

“You did the right thing,” a voice said from above. Marrek frantically scrambled into a hunter’s crouch and reached for his armory saber, but fumbled it. He relaxed when he saw the face of a fellow Shadow Gate member, Timeros Arconae. Despite their previous run-in, the Jedi Hunter knew that the Arconae was not there to harm him.

“You put faith in your master, and you put faith in your Consul. You have proven your loyalty time and again, and even proved me wrong. That does...not happen.” The Elder took a second to let that sink in, then continued. “For your dedication, the Consul has given me permission to elevate you to the rank of Dark Jedi Knight through way of Field Promotion.”

Marrek started to mouth something, but found no words came to him. He almost forgot he was in the middle of battle, but quickly locked his jaw and set his eyes with determination. He dropped to one knee and bowed his head towards the Adept.

“Thank you, sir.”

“Arcona Invicta,” Timeros said, turning his attention back to the battle.

It is a pleasure to be able to have a part in Marrek’s ascension to Dark Jedi Knight, and to have watched him grow from a bright-eyed new recruit to a consistent member of Arcona. Always passionate, he engages his fellow members and really immerses himself in the roleplay side of the Brotherhood. He was a big reason for Arcona experimenting with #arcona_rp, which has been going well in its early stages.

Marrek really stepped it up in the Dark Crusade, however, in the last and final round. With his team counting on a full effort from him- he rose to the occasion without hesitation. Over the course of his Dark Jedi Knight trials, he has been awarded 1 merit award as well as 4 competition awards. He has run one competition, and co-organized and run 2 others including IRC trivia that engaged his fellow members. Marrek has assisted his Clan with a Summit task that involved crunching numbers and updating the Novae and Participation standings for Arcona at the conclusion of Svolten. He has stepped up huge with helping develop his Battleteam by assisting with the Shadow Gate Wikipedia page, as well as updating the DB Nepotism policy as part of an early task for the MAA staff. He has earned a Dark Maven in Combat, a Dark Pundit in both Essentials and Vendetta.

Finally, with a perfect 4/4 int the last and final round of the Crusade, Marrek has now completed 9 competitions. However, his actions on Ziost and his dedication to finish out the Dark Crusade strong show that he has more than made his contribution to the Brotherhood and deserves to sit with his brothers and sisters formally as a Knight of Arcona.

Congratulations, Marrek, and well earned. Keep striving, keep fighting, and it has been an honor serving as your Consul.

Consul of Clan Arcona

It is with great anticipation and excitement that I recommend Marrek for promotion to the rank of Dark Jedi Knight. When I look at the rank of DJK I liken it to a proverbial coming of age. Marrek has not only passed this trial, he has done so with a level of expertise and efficiency that serves as a benchmark for those who follow in his footsteps. His development and upward movement through the organization was not a race. In fact it was quite the opposite. Cold and calculating, ever the Sniper, Marrek addressed each unique problem set he was presented and masterfully crafted an adaptive solution, carefully considering each potential outcome along the way. When it becomes a trial for the Master to test his student you know the training is complete.

Marrek, your time has come. You have done everything asked of you and more. You have been a bastion of activity since your arrival to Arcona and fought valiantly side by side the Warriors’s of Clan Arcona earning both their respect and admiration. We could highlight your perfect participation in the Final Round of the Dark Crusade or your ever present infectious personality on IRC, but that would do little to convey the significant positive impact you have had on this organization. When the Consul of Clan Arcona deems that you are ready for promotion to the rank of Dark Jedi Knight you should have no doubt that you earned it. Congratulations, my friend.

Quaestor of Plagueis

Marrek is an impressive member within the Dark Brotherhood and Arcona, let alone Qel-Droma. As his Master and Consul have stated he has proved himself time after time. Task after task his activity truly seems to leave a ripple effect on his peers and on myself. This is a day I've been looking forward to since I wrote my application to become Quaestor of Qel-Droma. I had known who he was and included this in the aforementioned application. His tasks have not been easy. His prowess in the Shadow Academy is unmatched among his peers. His aptitude towards role-playing is unnerving. He did not choose quicker or lighter tasks, but the ones he felt would present him with the most benefit. For all of this and more I am proud to see Qel-Droma's newest Knight rise.

Marrek Gunstinson is one of the most active Journeyman I've seen join the Dark Brotherhood recently, so much that I knew who he was and what he was doing before I joined Arcona. I knew upon my appointment as Quaestor that ensuring his promotion to Dark Jedi Knight was one of my goals before the year ends. Whenever he has time he is on IRC talking with any Arconan in the channel. He has passed the Leadership Fundamentals exam and ran his own competition, which was a trivia, just recently. He's registered on the forums, which he then used to get 1st place in the Svolten run-on during Phase Two Chapter One of the Dark Crusade. He received a Dark Cross months ago for his tremendous activity. He has more than met the time requirement and has officially finished five pages of character fiction. Marrek is exactly the type of Journeyman any Summit is excited to have and a role model for other Journeyman.

For all this activity and more, I am ecstatic to promote you to Jedi Hunter and hope to be promoting you to Dark Jedi Knight in the not so distant future. Congratulations!

Quaestor of Qel-Droma

It is my honor and privilege to request that one of Qel-Droma's finest Journeymen, Marrek Gunstinson, be elevated to the rank of Guardian. Marrek has not only gone above and beyond the requirements for his rank, but has also served as an example and an inspiration to his fellow Qel-Dromans.

In the time since his last promotion, Marrek has been a daily presence on IRC, and has quickly developed relationships with many of his Arconan peers. His presence in Google Hangouts with other members of his Clan has been noted, as well.

Marrek has completed an astounding 15 total courses (10+ since his last promotion), including some major ones like GMRG History (100%), Obelisk Core, and ACC Basics. His character sheet was approved on the old website, too. He has managed to participate in more than five total competitions, and was a contributor during the most recent chapter of the Dark Crusade.

Finally, Marrek has completed his Master at Arms task with great skill, to the delight of the MAA staff and his Clan leaders alike. He was assigned a task that was a bit different from most, when he converted one of the Brotherhood's most important policies to a wiki article, and made some updates to our "Projects and Policies" page. For his service to the Brotherhood as a whole, Marrek has earned an exemption from the required time in-rank.

Congratulations, Marrek. You've been a delight thus far, and I am very much looking forward to your future work. Arcona and Qel-Droma are watching.

The next rank is Jedi Hunter. The requirements are as follows:

-Six weeks at Guardian required or complete a Master At Arms assigned task. -Logon to IRC and visit your Clan channel. -Register on the Dark Brotherhood forums. -Complete FIVE of the following: --Participate in ten total competitions. --Complete ten Hard-mode Flashpoints, Operations or PVP events with a DJB group. --Take a Shadow Academy leadership exam. --Create a ToR Operations group, that regularly comes together for an operation. --Minimum five pages of character fiction to be approved by your House leadership or Master. --Have a second level 50 character in ToR. --Two Antei Combat Center matches. --Become rank 3 in the GMRG. --Place in a competition. --Earn 25 (total) Clusters of Fire. --Earn a merit medal. --Create a competition and run it with the assistance of your leadership.
