HLK News #13 - February 7th, 2004

Like last week, there's been a lot of comings and goings in the house.

1. Beat the AED competition
   

Tiger's competition, where you have to beat his time on a particular level, is going to run until the end of the month. You can find all of the details at:

1. "Manesh's Bad Taste Competition"
   

I got two submissions from the house, which I'm satisfied with considering it's not really Sithy. Since we have a new member, Donitz, I'm giving him until the end of the week (the 14th) to produce one of the 11 clues, if he'd like a medal.

The Preliminary results are as follows:

1st Place - PRT Muz Ashen

2nd place - SWM Smitrock

It's only 3rd place that remains to be determined, and that's up to Donitz. If he doesn't produce a clue by the 14th, I'll open up the 3rd place slot to the rest of the clan.

1. A request from the DGM
   

I know that the DB domain is down right now, but I remember reading in DGM Jac's report that he's looking for people to write some missions for the upcoming Great Jedi War. I figured since we have some mission designers in the house, maybe one of you guys could offer to do it. Although, I'm not sure if writing the missions for the GJW disqualifies you from participating in that portion of it. You might want to ask about that, and you can come to your own conclusion about whether or not you'd be willing to help.

1. Malik's Silly Little Comp
   

If you read the PCON report (mailed a little while ago), you'll realize that Malik's running a little competition. I promise my entry will be the stupidest one of them all.

1. Medals
   

SO Manesh Sadow was awarded 2 CLUSTERS OF FIRE for participation in the ICTE.

SO Jeff Loruss was awarded 2 CLUSTERS OF FIRE for participation in the ICTE.

1. Freelancer and Allegiance
   

These are the two new games people have been talking about lately. The effort to make Freelancer (and its Star Wars modification) a viable DB platform is being spearheaded by our own Aedile. There's a tidbit on the details here:

1. XWA Fix?
   

Hmm, another big news item this week was the discovery of a fix that will let you play XWA over a firewall. Now, people seem to be of the "did you get it to work?" attitude, which doesn't make this a sure thing. I haven't tried it out myself, because I royally suck at XWA and wouldn't want to embarass myself online if it did work. Well, maybe one day I will. Anyways, the information can be found here:

1. Upcoming Sith War?
   

Apparently there is another competition for the Sith houses coming up. I became QUA in the middle of the last Sith War, in which case we got 4th place (out of 7 houses). This is mainly due to the fact that Lenzar and Rekio are freaks who singlehandedly got most of the poitns for their houses. Well, since there isn't any concrete information yet, it's not getting much priority in this report.

1. Conclusion
   

It seems like there's a lot more in this report than normal. This is because I've gotten the impression (perhaps because of the increased number of emails this week) that activity in the DB is starting to pick up a bit. Especially with the Sith order seemingly branching out into other gaming platforms.
