More Duties of the Emissary

Greetings all, Today I am going to go over three of my duties, as they are intertwined and work together. Hopefully this will answer some lingerling questions.

Duty 2: Keep constant track of Clan activity over e-mail, IRC and message boards
Duty 3: Report to the Dark Council regarding such activity
Duty 4: Offer rewards and promotions to the clan summits for good service

In a e-mail later today I will be asking for Clan leadership to add me to their mailing groups. I am a long-time believer that the basis for activity always comes through e-mail, and I will just be looking at the e-mails that are sent to the members, their quality and frequency. I will futhermore be looking at IRC and message board presence.

Upon reviewing monthly the activity of Clan leadership, I will be reporting to the Grand Master and the Dark Council with how the clans are doing. Should any action need to be taken, either good or bad, I will reccomend it to the Grand master. What this means is that I will be primarily responsible in working to reward good leaders and to reccomend discipline for bad ones.

There was some concern when this position was officially created about me intruding into the mailing lists. I can assure you that it will be no different from having the order leaders on them. I wil rarely comment and anything that is private to your clan will stay that way.

I will be back tomorrow with my first report and another few duties.

Truly,
His Eminence, Lord Jac Ae-Sequiera Cotelin
Emissary to the Clans
Grand Master Emeritus, Fleet Admiral

yaaay me! Three new-es in a row!

Wow, maybe someone will notice my work and give me that long overdue promo out of miserable PRT status. Hurts when I see all those sub 2-year members with Battlemaster. :-P

Duty 2: Keep constant track of Clan activity over e-mail, IRC and message boards
Message boards are sometimes good and sometimes bad indicators of activity. I, for one, rarely use them and have always rarely used them. But, amazingly I am not inactive! Yes! Don't AWOL me! IRC again, is not a great indication. My most reliant and dedicated pilot is never in #CSK. Since I became QUA, he's gone from ACO to DJK in about 5 months and has received ALL of his medals in this period as well. E-mail is a good indication, but only if you are involved in the email chain - a lot happens in Galthain that you don't see on the galthain e-group. However, this is where detailed, relevant reports come in. Perhaps this needs to be emphasized. I know Mairin was trying to do so, but most of the summits ignored her, perhaps unwisely? :P I know an issue in the DB is recognition. Reports can and should do just that. No reports, no recognition, and you are part of the same problem you complain about. Reports would obviously outline activity as well. However, there is always the issue of insane standards, silly time requirements, meticulous details that result in denials, and other issues that need resolved if proper CONCRETE recognition is ever to be achieved. This occurs not only at DC and CON/PCON levels, but also at the levels of QUA and AED (perhaps CMDRs for exceptional cases).

Duty 3: Report to the Dark Council regarding such activity
When you say DC, I assume you mean just the GM and DGM. If clansmen should have problems with a certain other DC member because of incorrect clan interaction, it seems a little counterproductive to report that to the group of people that people may actually have problems with.

Duty 4: Offer rewards and promotions to the clan summits for good service
"Offer" or be subject to restrictions by the MAA and CHAN, and reviewed by miles of red tape, etc etc etc? You know how that is... I suppose a more affirmative and demanding approach is necessary. Most people just submit to the rules of award and promotions these days - very few challenge them.
