So it's been a while since I have done a full-fledged report. I've been meaning to, but all hell has broken loose in my life, and that means less time for things like this. Though, It is on my post-LoA list of things to get better at. I was priding myself on doing reports weekly for a looong while...I know I need to set a better example with it, too.

What's that, you say? You didn't hear that I was going on an LoA? Ooooh,
yeah, hence why it is important that I write these things.

I am going on a road trip with my fiancée this next week. We will be leaving
tomorrow evening and heading East toward Baltimore, Maryland. There I will
be having a please-keep-me-in-the-payroll luncheon with my Grand Parents.
I'm trying to get my Grandma to continue with the monthly allowance she
gives me through law school. :) From there, Ang and I will be going to
Norfolk, Virginia to hang out for a few days on the Beach with her best
friend. We then drive to Greenville, South Carolina on Friday to visit my
brother and my new nephew. Sorry Sharad, I can't make a pit stop to see you.
:( Then, next Sunday I drive home to Cincinnati to say hi to the
father-person on fathers day and then back up to Columbus. The next day I
start a new set of classes and a new work schedule. Fun.

Should be a good break. I've been pushing myself hard the past few weeks to
stay alive with everything. Luckily the hard part of school is over,
virtually all Fraternity commitments are over, my big project at work is
almost finished, and campus will be a lot quieter.

Anyway -- It's a really bad time for a LoA, but that's the way we roll.

Well -- the first Chapter of the GJW is over. I hope you liked it, even though I've already heard from a bunch of you who didn't. I would like to thank the leaders who have been pushing it so well. I think we had a decent turn-out of the events, especially near the end.

The results of the first Chapter will be posted shortly after I return from
break. I had hoped to get them out before I left, but unfortunately, there
is no way that will happen. I have the GFX, JO, JA, JK finished, the TIE/XvT/XWA
scores should be coming in soon, the Poetry is mostly graded. All that is
left is all of the long fiction, which I will be assigning to graders for
the week I am gone.

In the meantime, I have learned from a few mistakes in Ch I. Those won't be
repeated. Mainly came from me being competition-rusty. My apologizes for
those. The first part of a GJW is always the roughest.

Here's the deal, straight up. There were two main people working on the GJW, myself and Trev. I am going on LoA, and Trev is having major connectivity issues. The original plan was to release some of the story throughout the week and have Chapter II events start when I got back. However, given a severe lack of time on my part, Trev's absence, Mav's recently blown up computer, my horrid inability to cope with not being involved, and my intention for this next chapter to run smoothly, We will be holding off on the release of Chapter II until after the 20th.

Now, this will make some people mad, I know, because it will extend the GJW
by a week, and for that I apologize, but there is little I can do.

I suggest that everyone use the time to take a break. I know a lot of people
have asked for that anyway. Re-build your strength, because you're going to
need it. The rest of the GJW is crazy-good.

And I apologize that this has to happen like this. Believe me, another delay
is the last thing I want. But I need everything to run smoothly, and that
means not putting it out now. This will be better in the long run.

I won't be able to access the internet a whole lot on my LoA, unfortunately. FF and Mav will have my cell phone number for emergencies. If there is an email you would especially like me to see, put "URGENT" in the subject. I probably won't do much more than scan my mail.

After a lot of thought and concern, I am going to be working on developing a new plan for JediNet. The reason for this is that I've run into a problem with Security. That problem being, if I host someone on djb.com and they somehow write a script that harms the server (accidentally), my hosting company will shut down all of djb.com. That is bad.

With that said, I will be registering a new domain that will host any
scripting JediNET sites. Any sites that need hosting and access to ASP,
PHP or ASP.NET will be hosted on the new domain, while HTML-only sites
will remain on the main domain.

The domain aliases will still point to whatever.djb.com, just the actual
    hosting location will be different.

Anyway, to those of you who this affects, I will let you know. In the
meantime, here is the obligatory form:

Since CG and Jam3z have been on LoA I have been able to do some work on the site that I needed to do for them. I didn't get it all done, but I made really good progress. I am developing a schedule for the summer for who is doing what when, some standards to be used and then I am finishing the main layout.

As far as the website itself goes, we are making good headway. I
developed a new layout for the news and CG put in some sweet DHTML that
makes it work well. Jam3z has been working hard on creating the
framework for the site and has made some great innovations.

Further, we have started to use a new documentation system that will
allow us to communicate changes and preserve knowledge a lot easier.

I must say that I am pleased with where the site is going. Within a week
of when I get back, we will hopefully have some screen shots for you to
take a look at of the new dossier and new news.
