Hello all,

it’s not been a happy week as someone I came to love despite never have been able to meet her died early Wednesday. Haley had a rare form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. There was nothing left anyone could do, especially as research is far behind.

We often think there is nothing we as single people can do, but there is. Give blood – most cancer patients need a lot of platelets and even plasma. Become a bone marrow donor. Donate to reserach projects.

Something else we can do is enjoy life as long as it lasts. Many of us have trouble doing that, including me. Many of us come to the DB to forget the daily conflicts. However, sometimes unnecessary conflicts sprout in the DB as well, and chain reactions can lead to quite some chaos.

Take the recent upheaval about the DBPA as an example. I mean, it was fun watching and all, not being involved. But it was not necessary to cause such issues to blow up by dumb gossip and assumptions and thus potentially endangering the DB. We don’t need that. We can't always agree, but it would be helpful if we could stop and think before bitching about things. I know this doesn't always work. When we have goals and interests in this club, we'd like to see them fulfilled. But this isn't achieved by posting agressive comments on the news page.

Talking of gossip, something I really hate about society in general is this sickening need to to talk bad about people behind their backs. I don't mean the general jest or stab, I do that, too. I am referring to the pathological need to gang up on people who aren't in the channel, for different, pathetic reasons. Like the constant making fun of of peiople and their feelings or their faith or understanding. Why do those gossipers think they are better? Is this some kind of syndrome? How come they can't just shut their running mouths and keep their hurtful thoughts to themselves? What is the point in talking crap about a Clan member (has happened in other Clans) and then pretend nothing happened when they come in?

This is not going to take place in #scholae. If we see such a thing, we'll take action one way or the other. And here it does not matter who it is that is being talked bad about, Clan member or not. Yep, we all get carried away every now and then, me, too. So, please, if you see someone bullying or downtalking someone else, present people or even worse, absent people (because that's what it is in the end, even if this is "only" cyberspace), stand up against it.

There's healthy venting, of course. If we call Saitou a mad hatter and Cooch a monkey, that's fine. If we call CoFo or Flech a lazy ass at times because we're inable to contain our impatience for the promos or medals to go through, that's ok as long as it doesn't come down to a rant against anyone. I'm sure you'll be able to figure out what I am getting at, as I'm the local Aspie who doesn't get anything :o)
