House News

Yes indeed, two reports in a row. I know you’re all thinking, “What the f- is Shadow going to do reports all the time now? The answer is a hopeful yes. I might miss a few now and then but that will only be because there’s something else I’d rather be doing… And now to the reporting part of this report.

Battleteams, inactive, worthless, boring and pointless. These would be just some of the words used to describe our battleteams as they currently stand. The problem is the rest of the House and Clan summits are just too active to need another level of leadership, especially with so few active members. It’s hard for a younger member as Sergeant/Commander to do their own thing since we seem to be doing it for them all the time. So I’ve been working on upgrading our battleteams. Personally I haven’t ever really liked their role in the Brotherhood or the way they have been used by any clan. So far I’ve only seen them work well in Krath houses.

Unfortunately I don’t have too much to tell you all right now as I just started working on plans and asking the other summit-like people for their ideas or suggestions. I do have an idea or two, but nothing concrete enough to be posting about. I hope to have better information on battleteams for my next report.

New Member Policy. Did you see it? Kir posted it. I posted it. I added it to the Dinaari News Page. If you haven’t seen it yet, even though it may not apply to all of you, it’s a good thing to check out. Just scroll down a bit on the News page and I’ll see to getting Kir to add it to Taldryan’s website. The basic rundown is this:

New members join the clan and are given a month trial-period in which they have to compete in ONE competition. A competition of any level, from House to DB-wide. Once they do that they’re more or less in the clan. However, if they fail to participate in one simple competition they get AWOLed. We’ll keep our roster free of inactive Apprentices and with the way the database works in giving out new members we’ll get a bigger, more varied selection to work with. It’s definitely a good plan and one we’ve needed for a while now. If there’s one thing I can’t stand (of course there’s actually many things I can’t stand) its inactive members.

Project Updates

For now and until the end of the Great Jedi War I’ll be filling you all in on House Project stuff. I’ll bring back Competition Updates post-GJW when I’m actually allowed to run some.

First off, my latest project/fixation has been House Dinaari’s home planet and headquarters. Almost a year ago when we first left the EH’s systems we were asked to create a new planet/system for ourselves to have run by the Houses and Clans. We weren’t allowed, though, to write about having great headquarters, etc because we had just landed. Now that a year has passed though I think we’d have some if not all the work completed.

Now I want this to be a House Project – the designing of a new House headquarters. If you want to be part of the process email me directly and let me know. I want to either start an MB topic or an email list to get ideas going. Just remember we have to be somewhat realistic as far as the Star Wars and DB universes go. We’d have a good amount of money and power but not infinite and we can’t just create something out of nothing. One of my ideas was to have cultural influences from around the Galaxy. But I’ll go into greater depth later.

Secondly, I’ve recently started working on a new alternative promotion guide for members ranked below Dark Jedi Knight. It will be known as the Dinaari Bootcamp and it’s a much more “hands-on” take to gaining promotions. I’ll sketch a brief picture for all of you. This new form of rank elevation requires members to dive right into the stream of DB activity from the get go. Using IRC is a huge must, as they’ll be doing activities that are our everyday activities. Such as MP nights, and small comps and MB posting and talking on IRC. The stuff we now do without effort. But it’s a lot harder to get into it all when you’re new. So we’ll have people working with the new guys to help them get into things right off.

This Bootcamp should make for a good way to improve activity in our younger ranks. I find that the cut and paste “follow what the website tells you” is boring for new people and sometimes hard to follow. This will give them the chance to make their own way, as each new thing they do and begin to understand will help them achieve a higher rank. I’m hoping to have a site ready to go shortly after the GJW is done. It might be done sooner, I can’t tell yet, but even if it is I won’t be starting the Dinaari Bootcamp until post-GJW. (Yes I know… damn the GJW!)

There’re a few more projects I’m working on now but I’ll bore you with those next time. Don’t want to spill it all at once, that’s just no fun for me.

News from Abroad

We’re still waiting on results of both Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 of the Great Jedi War. The fictional ending to Chapter 3 has been posted and can be found here: http://gjw.darkjedibrotherhood.com/chapterthreeend.asp I know Jac has been having computer and email issues as well as a very hectic real life so give them time. Relax and enjoy the peace for a bit before you go battling infected Dark Jedi again.

On that note about Jac’s real life; Mav posted on the DB site that Firefox and himself can do stuff! It amazed me at first too, but apparently FF and Mav can also solve those things everyone goes to Jac about, which I’m not about to list here. So if you have any DB-related issues contact either of them first. Only contact Jac if it needs to be addressed by him.

Let’s see what else. The GMRG is doing a bunch of stuff I dislike and find stupid. Check it out I guess? I wouldn’t place too many bets in favor of them getting really active any time soon. Hell, they’ve basically just killed off the best setting in JO – guns.

QUA’s Corner

If you haven’t realized it yet, I have finished with my semi-LoA. I don’t remember if I posted anything about it but I am back to full activity… At least until the next time someone really pisses me off :P Also, I’m thinking about running a weekly competition in my reports to get people to actually read them… Yea, might be a good idea considering I waste so much time writing a 100% new report each time. And one last thing. I’m going to start pasting my reports into my emails so you don’t have to go all they way over to either the DB or Dinaari websites to read them. Convenience may sway even more of you into reading them.
