So law school is rough. Hard....as....hell, actually. It's not the mental aspects though. I understand everything and can successfully manuever through the storm. It's the physical barriers that I am struggling to overcome. I'm having a very hard time getting an amount of sleep that lets me function during the day. I've found that I need somewhere between 7.5 - 8 hours, no more and no less, to have a good day. I keep either getting 6 hours or 9 hours. Completely screws me up.

I just finished my first midterms last week. They weren't too bad, but we'll see how they are graded. I have a feeling that no one did well. Everything here is on a curve, so whatever.

I went home for the weekend to celebrate my nephew's first birthday. He's a cool kid. Walking and growing teeth since I last saw him about 4 months ago. It was fun, but for the fact that i kept staying up at night to A: watch the presidential debate via Tivo and B talk with my brothers. Sooo, I din't do the customary catch-up-on-sleep weekend. I'm hurting today -- think I'm getting sick.

So yeah, that's my life.

I'm not going to do my normal "I think things are getting better" crap here. Why? cause right now we need to have some major changes in order to make the DB function like it needs to. Is the DB dying? No, far from it. but I would consider our need right now to make some changes "dire."

As always, those changes have to come from the top down, and I think the people I have been working with on my problems can attest to the fact that I am trying to get better at my job. There are some areas that I've not been successful in that I need to fix and work on. Let me cite a few examples:

- In the re-release of the Chapter II scores, I added in a forfeit of Blade under Allegience. Oberst has been especially good in keeping the subject up, but I have forgotten about it so many times that it really has done a disservice to the situation. I should have resolved that some time ago, but I didn't. It slipped through cracks in the must-do list -- something which should not happen. Lesson: Instead of relying on people to remind me of promised work, I need to keep a better list of my obligations. What I am doing to fix it: I am doing more things as they come along, as well as keeping a task list within outlook that I keep populating.

- The GJW was obviously too long and drawn out to be considered a success. Trev and I both underestimated severely the time we would need to grade and turn around the end of the chapters. Lesson: We can't rely always on fast turn-around when our schedules are so hectic. What I am doing to fix it: Delegating more and working on policies that will require Vendettas to be finished completely before they are released.

- I have always had a problem with delegation. My problem is this: throughout my career, things that I have delegated often have to be re-done by me to fit with what I wanted in the first place. This bottlenecks things in my office. Lesson: Delegating and having more things done is more important than having everything fit my imagined results. What I am doing to fix it: I am learning to try people out more. I have had very good experiences with certain people and bad with others, so I am going to at least give people a try. If it doesn;t work out, I just don't go back.

I am trying to change things within my own office in the hopes that it will trickle down to the others. I think however, that in order for that to work, some more fundamental changes will need to be made to the DC. Some people I have discussed this with already agree with me, and thus I have started on a proposal that will bring the DC that I had hoped Rebirth would bring into fruition, come about immediately. I expect this to be done within the next 2-3 weeks.

What's the point of me telling you all of this? Well, it's because in the DB, I have an obligation to you, and you have one to me. You obligation to me is primarily to point out when things are going wrong. You guys would be very surprised to find out how much discontent I only hear through third hand accounts. Instead of just bitching or being pissed off in private areas, come to me and tell me whats up. I am usually good about adressing problems as they come up, and if you have one, let me help you with it. There's no reason for some people that have the "us vs. them" mentality about the DC to have that. i am an easy-going guy, and you can tell me that I'm a piece of crap and I won't hold it against you for more than a night of sleep.

Ok -- out.
