What am I doing now, you ask? I'm procrastinating, of course. I have a
twelve page paper due tomorrow at 8:55 AM that I have barely half-way
finished, and I have decided to write a report instead. Call me Mr.
Responsibility.

My life has been the normal lately. Law School, DB, Halo 2, fiancée
sometimes. I'm very tired of school but I only have one more week of classes
this semester, so it's not that bad. I am not looking forward to exams, but
I am looking forward to break, so I guess I have something to look forward
to.

FYI while I'm here. I am going home tomorrow at about 3:00 PM for the
Thanksgiving weekend. I will be able to get online for email, but my IRC
presence will be virtually non-existent. I will, as always, be online, but
won't be around to return your calls. Email should rule for those few days.
I'll be back Sunday evening.

Not really much else to say. Just the same old same old.

</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#333333" align="center" style="border-left-width: 1; border-right-width: 1; border-top-style: solid; border-top-width: 1; border-bottom-width: 1" bordercolor="#333333" colspan="2" height="20"> - Situational Commentary -</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="100%" align="center" style="border-left-width: 1; border-right-width: 1; border-top-style: solid; border-top-width: 1; border-bottom-width: 1" bordercolor="#333333" colspan="2" height="5"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td width="100%" align="center" style="border-left-width: 1; border-right-width: 1; border-top-style: solid; border-top-width: 1; border-bottom-width: 1" bordercolor="#333333" colspan="2" height="18">

Oh my dear god am I soooooo glad that the GJW is through. I don't think you
guys understand the amount of work that took to pull off even a bad GJW.
Actually, it probably would have taken less work had we been a little less
ambitious and a little smarter, but hey, you live and you learn. I have a
whole lot more free time now that it's done and can use that for better
things.

As the holidays approach, I hope people don't forget their commitments here.
We are more important than your family, after all. Forget the presents, skip
dinner, call you brother and tell him to shove off. You have the DB to worry
about.

:)

I am emboldened by a lot of people around me these days. I think after a few
weeks, Mav and I are finally settling into our positions. Mav has taken a
lot more direct approaches on things, and I think that is great, and I have
been able to get some more things done than in the past. I am very glad to
see the support I have from various members and the willingness of those
members to give me feedback on what is going on. Just recently, Kir gave me
a four page document that talked about some things in the DB, and it was a
really good reminder that, though we have come a long way, we still have a
good deal to do.

So really, as the holidays approach, let us not undertake the impossible and
say we are going to get everything done in those free days. We all know that
those days never end up being free. Instead, I want the leaders of the
brotherhood to pick one important project and just get it done. Don't try to
do three. I think if we all just do one big thing over the holidays, we'll
be in much better shape then if we try to overextend.

So, it's over, but not really over. There's still a bit to do.

Kaiann  is compiling a list for me of the judges that need to be
rewarded and that should be finished soon.

Also, the Clans have all been dictated what they are allowed to choose as
prizes for the GJW. We offered them all a list of ships and they were able
to choose some based on their total point score. We've received most request
back, and I think the clans have made a good choice.

Just to recap the rewards: I finished inputting all of the medals (I did all
5000 of them by hand, with punch cards instead of a keyboard). To those who
were wondering about the seals: two things. 1. we will not be rewarding them
for past Vendettas as the poll dictated. 2. The reason people received
multiple seals is for bragging rights. If we have the ability through quick
excel spreadsheets and SQL statements to document exactly who did what and
give the people who did the most an added bonus, then I'm all for that.

Oh yeah! Got some work dooooone.

The DC has been going through the Clan and Order powers documents that I
sent. Overall they were well received. I think it will add a great new
element to the DB and the members will like it.

Where are we with it? Well, I am having my magistrate, Pyralis, make some
changes to reflect the comments from the DC. Once that happens, I will
send it to the DC for a quick one-day review and out to the Consuls after
that. I am aiming to have the details of the system public within the next
  2 weeks.

As I'm sure some of you have seen from Trev's reports, we are working on
a complete system change for our documents in the DB.

As I'm sure you know, for like a decade the DB has run everything out of
the unorganized mass that is the Dark Side Compendium. I personally
think it is a worthless document that has outlived its usefulness by
about 3 years. It doesn't communicate our rules well, it doesn't train
people well and it is not easily updatable for the latest in events and
    policies.

What Trev, myself and others have come up with is a system that will
separate the four main needs of the DB into four categories:

Fiction/History: The DSC as we know it now is in the process of being
revamped to hold the fiction and history of the DB. Trev has been
working hard on this, and you can see some of the changes in the DSC
already (orders, ranks, etc.). Basically, the DSC is going to become the
fictional and historical background of the DB. It will hold the
justifications for the three orders, the fictional background of the
exodus, our connections to the Dark Side and so on and so on. Trev has
provided me with an outline of what he wants to do, and it looks like it
will be a VERY excellent document when finished.

Basic Rules and Regulations: The DSC has within it now the basic
precepts that we use to run this club. It's all strewn about in places
you can never find when you want to and it a terrible way to organize
our structure. To solve this problem I have asked Trev to create the
Dark Brotherhood Covenant. This document will look and read more like a
legal piece as it outlines our basic infrastructure, our rules, some
procedures, and the whatnot. The Cov will be a ground zero for finding
virtually anything you need to know about how the DB functions. Trev has
handed me an initial draft that I am working my way through. This is
    naturally, still far from completion.

Training: To hold everything together, the DB will have to have a new
training manual. This will be for the initiates to quickly learn what
they need to pass the tests in the Shadow Academy. It will cover the
basics of the DSC and the Covenant in a way that is forth coming and
clear. We have not started on this, and will once the other two projects
    are finished.

Policy/Regulatory decisions: I stated in a report some time ago that we
are building into rebirth a knowledge base system. This system will
serve as a place for individual Dark Council members to hold decrees
about various subject. For example, Kaiann may add to his section a
decree outlining the approval process for a new artifact. I may put in
my section something that shows my preference for how to submit
proposals. These are supposed to be rules and regulations that will
change more often than the Cov will permit, and will be changeable at
the will of Dark Council members. This is something that we are really
lacking right now, and I'm looking forward to having it.

All in all, I think the direction we are going with this is the right
one. While it will create more documents, it will simplify what is where
and let people access information quicker. Trev is working hard on his
ends and I am as well.

Just thought you'd all like to know. :)

Once I get a chance to play with the look, we'll get a few more screen

One important project.... hmm...

The KHP picks the Krath RoS!

Does that mean I get to forget about the MML and KMTs and character development comps and krath.org and, and... oh, never mind :P
