Consul Report

Brothers in Darkness,

Clan Exar Kun continues to grow in strength thanks to you! I've seen many new members join the clan in the last week, and I'm excited to see some established members join the clan, in addition to new members!

This week has been an eventful one for the clan, so let's get to the "meat" of the report.

BATTLETEAMS

As many of you have already noticed, we have disbanded the Battleteams until further notice. We did a little bit of restructuring in how the clan is run, based on a list of duties I have developed for our summit. The duties may or may not change as we go on (if these don't work out), but we needed a place to start from.

Included at the bottom of this report is a copy of the "Role of the Summit". This is the document that illustrates who will do what, in terms of summit positions. If you are applying for a summit position in CEK in the future, these will be the duties you will be required to perform.

CURRENT COMPETITIONS/EVENTS

The Krath RoS has just finished, and we eagerly await the results. I'm not too concerned about this competition, as we kind of came into it late as a clan, so if we don't make 3rd in this one (as I had hoped in previous mails) do not disparage. We WILL do better in the next one, now that we're becoming an organized team.

Take not of the bi-weekly tournament. You must be invited to this, but the way to get invited is to play in one of the weekly events in the two week period (Tues/Thurs all day in #gmrg on IRC - more on IRC below). For more info on the Tournament (like how to report scores and get invited!) go to http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=171

In addition, there are the following:

Hunt Down And Destroy The Jedi - http://www.darkbrotherhood.org/dbjedi/competitions.asp?ID=724 - Hosted by Arania

ACC: Capture and Deliver - http://www.darkbrotherhood.org/dbjedi/competitions.asp?ID=722 - Hosted by Dalthid

History in the Making - http://www.darkbrotherhood.org/dbjedi/competitions.asp?ID=731 - Hosted by Esca

Also, please note that when you are submitting to competitions listed on the DB web site, you are not permitted to take part in competitions hosted by other houses/clans. Always look at the list of "Units" involved with the competition. If you see a competition for another house or clan that you would like to see run in CEK, please contact your QUA/AED (for House level comps) or your PCON (for clan level comps).

IMPORTANT ITEMS

Attached to this report is also a copy of "The Path of Kun". These are the current promotion guidelines for members of Clan Exar Kun. This document is meant to be used by the Master (In our Master/Apprentice program) as a guideline by which to train his Apprentices in the way of the Dark Side. If you are a Master, study it well, and if you have any concerns about it, let me know. If you are a member of rank DJK or higher and would like to take on Apprentices, email me. If you are a member below the rank of DJK and would like a Master to help you in your training, also email me.

IRC IRC IRC. For those unfamiliar with the acronym, IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It is a real-time chat that is used by the Dark Brotherhood. It is likely the BEST way to communicate with your clan members AND the Dark Brotherhood as a whole. If you want to get noticed, or make friends, IRC is the place to do this. Potential leaders of clans and houses (and even the Dark Council) are chosen from those who are on IRC, as they are the most accessible and easiest to work with. People who come on IRC get involved with their clanmates more and the feeling of community is increased. It's also the best place to hook up with other gamers if you're looking for a game of JO or XWA! That being said, work is not the only thing we do on IRC. At any given time we're talking about any number of subjects, not limited to Star Wars.

So come on out and meet us! We can be found on the Undernet network in channels #clanexarkun and the main Brotherhood channel, #db. If you need any help getting on IRC, drop me an email and I'll shoot you all the info you need (I've been on IRC for about 9 years now, so I should be able to give you a hand getting connected). If you manage to get on IRC, my nickname is Chi-Long... drop me a message to say hi! I IRC from work all day, so I'm quite available and always happy to say hi to new members!

There is also a way to access the Undernet via web browser. Go to www.undernet.org and click on the "web chat" link to connect. There is no software to download (other than a small java applet that your browser automatically does for you) and none to install.

FIN

That's it for this week... as always, if you have any questions, drop me a line!

ATTACHMENTS

THE ROLE OF THE SUMMIT

Consul

1) Developing new clan initiatives

The primary duty of the CON shall be to develop (with assistance and input from his/her summit) new initiatives for the Clan to advance our status in the Brotherhood.

2) Member contact

The secondary duty of the CON shall be to make him/herself available on IRC and through email and the forums to Clan members to answer their questions. This will also include recommending promotions for members who have met the requirements for their rank (as outlined in the Clan promotion guideline documents).

3) Mediation and dispute resolution

The tertiary duty of the CON shall be to mediate disputes in the Clan and attempt to bring them to a peaceful resolution. The Brotherhood attracts members from various walks of life and conflict is inevitable. Prior to any complaint being submitted to the Chamber of Justice (CoJ), the CON should be notified so the matter can be dealt with "in-clan", if appropriate. The CON may elect to ask a member to leave the clan, but should consider asking for his summit's advice on the matter.

Proconsul

1) Competitions

The primary duty of the PCON shall be to initiate new competitions within the clan and to keep track of the results from house-level competitions (organized by the QUA/AED as outlined below)

The competitions may be of any type (fiction/ACC/Multiplayer gaming/Single player gaming/etc). They should be "run past" the Consul prior to submission, although very rarely would they be turned down.

2) Member contact

The secondary duty of the PCON shall be to make him/herself available on IRC and through email and the forums to Clan members to answer their questions. This will also include recommending promotions for members who have met the requirements for their rank (as outlined in the Clan promotion guideline documents).

3) Filling in for the CON

A tertiary duty for the PCON shall be to fill in for the CON when he/she is on leave for an acceptable and approved period of time. The notice of leave of absence will be given with the most notice possible.

Quaestor

1) Member contact

The QUA shall be the primary contact for the members of the clan and it is imperative that he/she conduct him/herself in a manner that is fitting for such a duty. QUAs need to be able to "market" their house in a successful way and to draw their members into the activities in the house and clan as a whole.

The QUA shall be the one that members come to for answers when they want to know what is going on in the Clan and House. As such, a high level of activity is required on IRC and a fast email response time (less than 1 day for small emails) is needed to successfully fill this position.

2) Mediation and dispute resolution

The secondary duty of the QUA shall be to mediate disputes in the House and attempt to bring them to a peaceful resolution. The QUA will bring any concerns he has in this respect to the CON so that they may work together to resolve the conflict.

3) Developing new house initiatives

The tertiary duty of the QUA shall be to develop new projects to help further his/her house and clan in the Dark Brotherhood. He/she will work with the CON to accomplish these goals.

Aedile

1) Coordinating competitions

The primary duty of the AED shall be to work with the PCON and QUA to develop new competitions within the Clan (at the House level).

The AED shall also act as a battleteam leader, collecting the results from battles/competitions at the house level and submitting them to the PCON for addition to his records.

2) Member contact

The secondary duty of the AED shall be to make him/herself available on IRC and through email and the forums to Clan members to answer their questions (especially about competitions). This will also include recommending promotions for members who have met the requirements for their rank (as outlined in the Clan promotion guideline documents)
