Taldryan Consul Report 7-27-05 Report # 104

Well lots of stuff going on in the DB right now, with even more on the horizon. Lots of info for this report, so I’m not going to bore you with too much chatter up here. I just want to mention that I’ll be on vacation next week with no internet access, so Shadow will be the big cheese. More on that in my report.

Special ‘Tally’ Awards Section!

The third installment of the Clan Taldryan ‘Tally’ awards was completed today. After more than a month of nominating and voting, we finally have our winners! I hope everyone enjoyed voting, and I want to congratulate everyone on participating (and winning, if you did!). So no further delay, here are the results!

Best Krath

This award is for the most skilled Krath member of Clan Taldryan. You must be of the Krath Order to receive this award.

It was a good race, but in the end Chaosrain reigned supreme as the Best Krath in Clan Taldryan. Congratuations!

Best Obelisk

This award is for the most skilled Obelisk member of Clan Taldryan. You must be of the Obelisk Order to receive this award.

This came down to a very close race between two deserving members, but in the end Duga Arkarso managed to nudge ahead for the victory as Best Obelisk. Way to go!

Best Sith

This award is for the most skilled Sith member of Clan Taldryan. You must be of the Sith Order to receive this award.

Another one-vote race here between great members, but when the final votes were in, Kraval Novir won Best Sith! Congrats!

Best Dark Jedi

This award is for the most skilled overall member of Clan Taldryan. It should be given to a member who exhibits good qualities in 2-3 different order activity types.

In a not-so-close race here, the defending champ maintains his title. The winner is Kir Taldrya Katarn (me!), thanks to you all!

Best Leader

This award is given to the best leader in Taldryan. The receiver of this award does not have to be in a position currently, but must have held a position in the past.

In a race between the CON and his former PCON (amazingly similar to last year), Kir Taldrya Katarn (me again!) manages to pull off the victory for a second year in a row!

Best Newcomer

This award is given to the best newcomer to Taldryan. The recommended time in Taldryan for this award is up to 6 months. Member does not have to be new to the DB to receive this, just to Taldryan.

In a final round that saw an absolute trouncing, the winner of Best Newcomer for this year is Kraval Novir! Congratulations!

Most Dedicated

This award is for the most dedicated member of Clan Taldryan. It is awarded to the person who dedicates himself or herself the most for the clan's needs. The receiver of this award typically does not worry about how it affects himself or herself, but rather if it betters Taldryan overall.

In a close race, this one came down to myself and one of the summit members I think does an incredible job around here. But destiny cannot be stopped, and Kir Taldrya Katarn repeats as victor!

Most Active

This award is for the most active member of Clan Taldryan. It should go to the person involved in the most activities for a prolonged period of time. The recommended prolonged period of time is 3 or more months.

In a landslide vote, the Most Active member of Clan Taldryan is (obviously) Duga Arkarso! Congratulations!

People's Choice

This award is for the most popular member of Clan Taldryan. This should be self explanatory.

Since the ‘Tallys’ were started, Shadow Taldrya and Swiper have battled for this award. In the first year there was a tie, and both were awarded. Last year Shadow managed to edge out a victory. And this year, with all the bets riding on the results…Shadow has again managed to edge out his archrival and win!

Congratulations to all the winners, these awards present us all with a unique opportunity to see what our peers think of our actions. Taldryan members share a special bond that other Clans cannot even begin to understand, and the core of that bond is our appreciation for each other. I would like to personally thank those who voted for me, and extend the thanks of all the winners to all the members who voted. To those who won a category, be thankful that your peers recognize your efforts towards helping Taldryan. And for all those who didn’t make it through to the final page, don’t worry…we all have our time, just stay committed to Taldryan and your time will come!

Clan Taldryan News

-I have finally decided to change my email address to Gmail. I’ve been using YahooMail for years, but I’ve decided it is time for me to change. So from now on my email address will be [Log in to view e-mail addresses], you can use that to reach me at any time. You can also send messages to [Log in to view e-mail addresses], that will forward to my new address.

-The massive DB-wide AWOL check ended a few weeks ago, and our numbers are now down to…90. That’s right, we’re still huge. The Houses will probably be running their own AWOL checks (the standard, “reply to this email” kind) in the next few weeks.

-The Run-on for JH-and-under members has ended, and Chaosrain is judging the entries. He will be releasing the results soon.

-Last report I mentioned that the Houses would be running competitions, but in the last few weeks we changed our plans a bit. Shadow and I will be running a large clan competition in August, so we have superceded the House competitions. No details yet, just prepare…it will be huge, awesome, and if you don’t participate…bad things will happen to you. Also, if you have any ideas for specific events you would like to see (or any you’ve come up with on your own), email me and we can talk about getting them into the Clan comp.

-I have results for the Quick & Easy Competition, the winners are:

1st – Shups

2nd – Crix

3rd – Kraval

Congratulations to you three, and good job everyone who participated. Medals for the winners will be going out very soon.

-I’m going to announce two new members of the Cohors Praetoria this week; the new members are….Flech and Aevin! One old member who randomly returned to do some IG stuff and a new member who has made tremendous efforts to MP without the use of IRC. Congrats to both!

-Alright, with the end of that round, I will be starting Quick & Easy Competition (2-3) today. It will be a Mad-lib. Basically you choose words (nouns, adjectives, verbs) and then I add them into a story with blanks in it. The person with the funniest story will win. You can participate here: http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1396

-The House summits are going to be sending me the activity trackers for the month of July in the next few days. So if you have been participating in competitions or active in anyway, INFORM your House leaders ASAP so you can get credit for it. You can also check with them to see what exactly they have you down for, to make sure they don’t miss anything. This is very important because we judge your activity from these sheets!

-To the staff of the Tal Times: remember your articles are all due on August 1st! I will be sending you all a reminder very soon, but I expect to see those articles in my inbox on time!

-Many members of the Brotherhood (and Taldryan) are getting into the free game Allegiance. It is a space-based flight sim (and part real-time strategy) that you can download and play absolutely free. Many people enjoy it, and for free…why not play? It will probably be included in upcoming DB competitions, so you should look into it. You can find it here: http://www.freeallegiance.org/ (click “Play” on the top of the page). Some people tried playing this when we first started several months ago and it didn’t work, but they have upgraded the software and most people can operate it now. If you have any questions, direct them to QUA Benevolent, he is our resident Allegiance expert.

-The newest issue of the Tal Times was released a few weeks ago, you can see it here:

http://www.taldryan.org/taltimes/3/index.html

The new issue is being written and compiled right now!

-I’m catching up on medals I owe people, if I haven’t given you something shiny that you deserve by tomorrow, let me know.

-If you haven’t already, you should take a moment to check out the “Clan Values” and remember to use/live them in your daily DB lives (http://www.taldryan.org/values.php)

  • No trivia in this report, due to only 2 people doing it each of the last two reports. I want to take this opportunity to remind you all that to advance in the Clan powers hierarchy, you are required to have a diverse collection of medals, and LSs (trivia medals) are included in those. So when I do trivia…take the opportunity to earn the medals!

-Remember to check the ‘Competitions’ section of the Taldryan website for things to keep you active (http://www.taldryan.org/competitions.php)

Trivia!

No trivia in this report, due to only 2 people doing it each of the last three reports. I want to take this opportunity to remind you all that to advance in the Clan powers hierarchy, you are required to have a diverse collection of medals, and LSs (trivia medals) are included in those. So when I do trivia…take the opportunity to earn the medals!

READ THIS if you don’t have IRC!!!

This new section of my report is dedicated to providing information about IRC (internet relay chat). If I had to name one thing that makes a successful Taldryan member, I would say IRC useage. It is required for all of the Clan’s leaders, and all of our most active members can be found there. I have found out that many members read my reports, and some of them don’t use IRC, and I am hoping I can change this.

Here are some quick things about IRC:

-It is a free download (it says you have to ‘register’ it within 30 days, but you never have to)

-It’s VERY simple to use

-All the most active people are on it

-There are almost always people around

-Some competitions are only available on IRC

-You get to know people much better

-You get more of the Taldryan ‘team feeling’ if you are on it

-Being active on IRC can be a reason to get medals/promotions

-Our clan channels get a little crazy sometimes, and its fun!

-You can message individuals like AIM, and talk in chatrooms (multiple rooms at the same time)

How can I get IRC? For Windows users the most popular IRC program is mIRC, which you install on your computer and use just as you would an instant messenger. mIRC is only a free trial, but you may use it as long as you want without penalty (other than a few annoying messages telling you to register). You can find mIRC here:

http://www.mirc.com

If you can't install stuff on your computer or you're constantly switching computers in a lab, you can also use the DB IRC, which is a java applet (to be used through your browser) allowing you to talk in only one channel or room at a time. DB IRC can be found here:

http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.org/dbjedi/chat.html

IRC is very popular and therefore has many servers and channels. This makes it hard to find what you want unless you know what you're doing. Therefore make sure to use the following settings when starting up IRC:

Network: Undernet

Brotherhood Channel: #db

Clan Channel: #taldryan

Have IRC but confused on how to get things going? Well you are in luck, the Shadow Academy has several IRC courses, and the first one is very helpful and for new users. Just go to the SA (http://www.darkjedibrotherhood.org/dbjedi/shadowacademy/sa/index.html) and then click on ‘General Studies’, and then the ‘IRC Basics’ course. It will guide you through how to use IRC. If you’re still having trouble or don’t like how the SA course is laid out, you can read the IRC guide written by QUA Shadow (http://dinaari.taldryan.org/irc_guide.php). It has images of the menus and everything, and is very helpful!

I hope to see a lot of you on IRC!

Miscellaneous

-If you ever need to see an old Consul report, all of mine are up on djb.org!

That’s all for this week, as always if you have any questions/comments/just want to talk, feel free to email me at [Log in to view e-mail addresses] or just go onto IRC as I’m logged on quite often as Kir! Or talk to me on AIM, my screen-name is “ConsulKir”!

Everyone gets points for wins that they can use to buy personal possessions, and the total of all the points Taldryan members earn the Clan also earns as a whole to buy cool Clan stuff!
