Herald Report

If you have Star Wars news to report, drop me a line.

  • Site Reconstruction

Working on so much... New request forms, new images, some changes to the layout...

SWGN Staff has their assignments, and the

site's nearly ready for them to start filling it up.

  • Grant Of Arms Warbanners It was one of the big announcements from the Summer Projects, and in case you missed it, here's the

scoop...

Warbanners are to completely replace the Grant of Arms. The idea is roughly the same, but

the imagery and options have totally changed. You cannot keep your old GoA (if you have one) because the

core imagery is no longer owned by the DJB.

Currently there are over 230 GoA images to replace before we can start on new requests - however

  • we have a system by which we are going to hammer out all of those. We will be in contact with current

GoA holders on updating to the new Standard.

NOTE: The banner above is mine, and thus heavily customized within the

parameters of my rank and rank class. These options may not be available to you at the time of your

request, but as you increase rank class they will be unlocked.

  • Custom Lightsabers

Nothing New yet.

ROTS topples ROTK

From BoxOfficeMojo.Com:

The link above will take you to the top 100 Domestic (USA) gross figures of all time, where you'll see

that Revenge Of The Sith has overtaken Lord Of The Rings: Return of the King.

Other things to note:

  • All the Star Wars films (I-VI) are in the top 25.

  • If adjusted for inflation, Star Wars (A New Hope) would be around $1 Billion*. Take THAT, Titanic.

Price adjustments made based on comparison of average ticket prices from 1977 to 2005;

I'm aware that the rate steadily increased from 1977 to 2005. I took the Overall figure (460,998,007)

and multiplied by 2.25 - 2005 ticket averages are 3 times higher than 1977; I also used the rationale

that the majority of ticket sales for Episode IV were from 1977 to 1980.

Straight From The Force's Mouth

David Prowse is coming out with an autobiography covering everything from his former weightlifting career to his films.

The Three-Disc set will be available in November for the sum of £12.99 (roughly $23.15 USD/$28.07 CAD,

but remember you'll need to add a bit for shipping).

When I met Mr. Prowse in 1997 I asked him some questions about his experience working on the Star Wars films, and if he had read any of the novels. He said to me - quite frankly - "I never really cared much for Science Fiction."

I still think that's funny to this day.

Answers You Seek...

Justa snippet from TFN's Mailbag that I thought was rather interesting:

**There are so many novels out there that go far beyond the films - does George Lucas endorse the books

as accurately depicting his vision? What is the official position of Lucasfilms or George on the

novels?**

The official position of Lucasfilm is that they're official. If they weren't regarded as legitimate,

they wouldn't get published. The movies do occupy a higher level of "official", however, known as G-

canon. All it really means is that if there were a conflict between a movie and a book, the movie wins.

When there's no conflict, as is the case 95% of the time, there's no problem.

Is the same true of Dark Horse Comics?

Yep. If it wasn't endorsed, it woudn't exist.

Sith-Canned

Though the news is old - and even acknowledged that it was old news on TheForce.Net - check out this blog entry stating that Elizabeth

Hand's New Repulic-era novel has lost its author. She became overwhelmed with other work, so she had to

back out.

Reflections of "War"

Check out [Gamespot](http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/starwarsrts/media.html?

including trailers and behind-the-scenes developer interviews.

You made it to the end!Congrats. I did too.

Excitement was in the air last week as we neared the preview of Rebirth. It all got intense for me

because things like the Warbanners were finally being shown to everyone. Most of the DC didn't even know

about them, let alone anyone else. The GoA replacement will keep me and Cyris busy for a while, but

we're happy to finally have it out there.

Hey, for reading this far you get a special treat... Little Known Star Wars Fact #3: In

prelimiary drafts of "The Star Wars" Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi were one character. Up until the actual

shooting script, Obi-Wan survived the movie.

I'm glad he changed all that.

YAY for the warbanners!

"Though the news is old - and even acknowledged that it was old news on TheForce.Net - check out this blog entry stating that Elizabeth Hand's New Repulic-era novel has lost its author. She became overwhelmed with other work, so she had to back out."

It was actually going to be a Sith Era novel about Darth Bane's origins. I for one and pissed off that they cancelled a book about one of the most key characters in the Sith's history.

But "If it doesn't have Luke, Leia and Han in it so it won't sell well" seems to be the attitude LFL have. First they were going to have a six book Sith Era series. Then it was going to be a duology. Then a stand alone. Now we get nothing at all.

Meaning Darth Bane remains nothing more but a nobody mentioned in two short stories and a comic book. Bah.

It isn't even true that those books wouldn't sell. Quite annoying indeed.

When he says even the DC didn't fully know, believe him, most or all of the GoA reform commitee didn't even know. :=P
